State Auditor Recovers $1 Million in '26, Blasts Attorney General

State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.

State Auditor Shad White announced in an annual Audit Exceptions Report that his office recovered$1,096,510.88 in taxpayer funds and returned them to the deserving entities in Fiscal Year 2026.

“Mississippians work hard for their money and they deserve to know every taxpayer dollar is being protected,” said State Auditor Shad White. “The hardworking men and women at the Auditor’s Office will continue to serve as the state’s watchdog and uncover waste, fraud, and abuse wherever we find it.”

Additionally, the report highlights the significant amount of taxpayer money that remains outstanding in demands issued by the Office of the State Auditor. The Mississippi Supreme Court has stated only the Attorney General’s office can enforce these demands in court, not the State Auditor.

In connection with the Mississippi Department of Human Services welfare scandal, the OSA has issued demands totaling $96,312,774.27 and referred the demands to the Attorney General’s Office for enforcement. This past year, the Office of the Attorney General only recovered $18,000 of that amount.

Separate from the DHS cases, the OSA has issued demands in 103 cases that have not been paid in full. Those cases represent an outstanding balance of $15,792,926.25. The Office of the Attorney General has taken no action in 95 of those 103 cases.

State law requires the State Auditor to publish an Exceptions Report in August each year.

Kingfish note: Posted below are the report and the exceptions found in the Jackson metro area.

MDE: Professional Development Coordinator Amye Hoskins had $23, 178 in unauthorized time.

MBN: Former Agent Kevin Dear misappropriated $1,443

MSDH: Former Director of Health Surveillance Sai Kurmana  and Sudha Nimmala were indicted for fraud. Demand of $96,249 was issued.

TDK Tax Services Owner Verneshia Cody indicted for forgery and bribery. Demand of $162,923 issued.

MDOC: Demand issued to agency in March for $959,240 for improper staffing credits.

Cute. Two people who want to be Gov. take cheap shots at each other and the real contenders just move on ahead. The fight for the bottom is going to be fun to watch this election cycle.

Shad can't even get the link to the full report correct in Audit Exceptions Report. Click it and goes to a page not found on OSA's website.

I'm confused. Is a demand letter considered a recovery? Because to my thinking, a recovery means ill-gotten money was taken from someone or something and that money was returned in cash or check to where it came from.

I REALLY have Shad fatigue.

I wish other department heads would do press releases documenting that they did their job.

Quite apparent the Mississippi State Attorney General is not adequately performing her duties, but now wants to run for Governor of The State of Mississippi. “The Height of the Ridiculous.”

I appreciate the employee in the Office of State Auditor for waiting until after he/she was officially off the clock - 5:15 pm - for making their public service (or was it a political) comment. Would hate for someone over there to be dinged for misuse of their public computer and internet service for reading a political blog and gosh!! even going so far as to post a political comment on offical time.

I've seen their work "auditing" State Agencies. They have no knowledge or experience and State staff train them as they work. And they charge Agencies much more than using an independent auditor! Shad's trying to build an empire on the dime of tax payers he says he's protecting.
As for these explosive "reports" he issues, if the Agency finds and corrects a simple coding issue on an invoice, OSA crows like they found it. Shad's a self promoting phony.

I never tire of people who show us they're doing the job to which elected. Sorry you're fatigued. Maybe a siesta would help.

Seems like...not that much.

Can Shad make the GOP runoff? I think Lynn will finish around 4th with Gunn at about 5th.

6:29 is right on. Long term staff find these errors, or these people get snitched on. Shad being in office or not makes no difference to this continuing work. He crows about it like he’s done the work and his followers are too uninformed about the process to understand his irrelevance. Tired on him too.

Beware of little men who want to be your leader

6:31, it could be people are so used to politicians doing nothing, when one does their job people are confused.

@6:37: at the beginning/before an investigation begins, they probably have little to no way of knowing whether they will find wrongdoing, or whether it will be a little or a lot. So if it turns out to just be a little, should they just let it go and not pinch them? He’s looking under every rock. Good for him. The boondock towns and counties he’s pinching, for large and small amounts, shows the extent of the waste and grift in our state. I hope he busts everyone that gets a Big Mac or tank of gas that they shouldn’t have

8:29. Delbert is probably the best candidate for governor the Democrats have

Making a demand for money and collecting money are two entirely different things. Allowing people to agree to restitution in lieu of jail time in a plea agreement is just window dressing 90% of the time. Collecting money from thieves is almost impossible. And we rarely lock people up for failing to pay restitution.

Ohhhh, I so hope Shad will write a book outlining all of his good deeds he has done and the people he has caught. I am waiting on pins and needles for the press release for it.

The little man ignored the corruption at the msboc. How many millions have been funneled through the corrupt agency? He 'recommends' oversight to the millions walking out the door every year, yet he makes NO attempt to see where the millions have gone. Oh yeah, ya'll keep track of your grants' ... that's about all he said.f If he was a real auditor, he would find the millions going down their black hole. Over an 800% increase in new contractors between 2022-23. Average rate was 300-350 and suddenly there are over 2,900 new contractors in one year? What's up? Is it data center talks or illegal immigration? You have to be a member of the good ole boy network to hide obvious corruption.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
