Check out what has Skyhook and his crew of knuckleheads up in a tizzy:
Yup. They are bitching about planting trees. You read that correctly. Check out the latest screed on social media.
IS JACKSON BEING GENTRIFIED? :THE CHECKBOXES KEEP ADDING UP.Gentrification happens when reinvestment makes an area more desirable and expensive, eventually creating pressure that can push longtime residents out.Development improves a place. Gentrification changes who can afford to remain in that improved place.Disinvestment → cheap property → public reinvestment → better infrastructure, security and amenities → private development → rising demand and costs → displacement pressure. What factual indicators of gentrification has Jackson already witnessed to create this concern?Special investment districts ✓Downtown BID. Fondren BID. CCID. Greater Belhaven.Enhanced security ✓Capitol Police, CCID and BID-funded security.Public amenities and infrastructure ✓Museum Trail. Capitol Green Connector. Downtown improvements. $20M in identified new state/federal investment around LeFleur's Bluff.A connected investment corridor ✓LeFleur's Bluff → Fondren → Belhaven/Midtown → Downtown → West Jackson/JSU.Public support for redevelopment ✓Millions in TIF financing involving Eastover, Westin, Landmark/Downtown, Fondren and Prado Lofts — plus tax abatements and other development incentives.Major private development ✓Prado Lofts — $50MFlats at Fondren — $59MFondren Hampton Inn — $25MFormer YMCA → Prado apartmentsPlus major development across Midtown, Greater Belhaven and Downtown.Higher-end housing ✓Hundreds of new units, including Class A/high-end apartments, entering the same broader investment geography.Concentrated state investment ✓The 2024 Jackson/Hinds package included millions for Union Station, Thalia Mara, CCID corridors, Museum Trail, Northside and other targeted projects.Specifically identified for blight removal on and south of U.S. 80?$250,000.Now watch:Property values □ Property taxes □ Rents □ Land ownership □ Demographic change □ Displacement □Jackson needs development. But:WILL THE JACKSONIANS WHO LIVED THROUGH THE DISINVESTMENT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE REINVESTMENT?We can hold onto our power while we still have it — but first we have to recognize what's happening. If we know better, we do better.
Keep telling you people these people's idea of equity is for everyone to live in the same slop. These developments are good for Jackson but of course these idiots see them as something bad. Heaven forbid a part of Jackson should actually be nice.
What's funny is Skyhook gushes about community but then raises hell about the improvement districts in Belhaven, the Fondren, and downtown Jackson. The property owners are the ones who voted to create those districts and tax themselves. Of course, the Skyhook crowd only favors community involvement when it's their community. Such is how you get so-called broke-dick community loud mouths raising hell about planting trees. One gets the idea very little makes sense to them.

AWESOME! Let’s gentrify the hell out of Jackson. We’re taking this town back!
All this and he lives in a gated NE Jackson neighborhood.
No one takes this ass clown serious. Honestly he likes to talk trash about Fondren NE Jackson for being white but what would the city do if not for that tax base of ward 1. Skyhook never mentions the fact that ward one in NE Jackson pays the city’s bills at a massive level
I love that he keeps posting that obviously AI-generated "checklist" for gentrification
As if “disinvestment” is a real thing lol. Like it is a “right” to have investments in your community. What a dipshit. A lot like most of the miserable assholes on this site, this guy can’t help but tear down a good thing.
It was never about equal opportunity or freedom, and it was always about confiscating the wealth of others and demanding access to spaces made nice by the work and culture of others.
Jackson is crumbling because the tax base left? White mans fault.
People attempt to improve Jackson in any way? White mans fault.
Insert any other criticism of Jackson: White mans fault.
What is the end goal?
Didn't he stay silent for 8 years when
Lumumba was mayor?
What has Skyhook done for Jackson?
Very well said KF! Hard to add anything but the obvious, that Democrats use crime as a tactic to take and keep control of cities like Jackson forever.
Can’t make it look nice, too white looking.
I heard 7 gunshots on riverside last night at 10:30PM is it skyhook trying to lower my real estate values?? He blocked me on facebook so i cant ask!! DUDE IS AN IDIOT!!!
Trees are racist?
I cant keep up.
Please help me understand this. First it is the white peoples fault that Jackson is a shit hole because they moved out. The people left in Jackson wanted the white people to give them money to help the city. Now it is the white peoples fault because the white people are investing money in Jackson.
Do the people left in Jackson want the rest of the state to adopt rhem and give them everything they want? What exactly would it take to satify the people of Jackson? Do the white people in the statge have to pay all of the bulls for the people of Jackson? Do the white people have to pay to improve the houses the people of Jackson have destroyed? Most of the people in Jackson are already drawing checks and bebefits from the government already. Is there anything the people of Jackson can do for themselves besides electing crooks, thieves, and grifters?
Don't worry pal, the big bad white man is NOT coming back to Jackson.
We will happily let you fix it.
Just curious, any plans to start soon?
God forbid that these race baiters actually pick up the litter in their neighborhoods or plant a tree to improve their community.
These people are simply arm-chair socialists. They demand that poor people control the space on which they live. That includes people who own nothing and contribute nothing to the economy or the city's tax base. They have no plan for eliminating poverty beyond their own comfort and have no problem with the remaining tax base as long as THEY control the tax base. Their insistence on control means the tax base will continue to shrink. They don't care as long as they are comfortable enough.
Who gives a shit about this loser. I for one am excited to be able to walk to Martin’s Downtown using this new trail. Big cities have so much renewal come from trails like these (see the Beltline in Atlanta). Many thanks to the Jackson heroes and organizations that made this possible.
You just described the adolescent mindset of these people to a tee:
Take care of me, give me everything I need, clean up my messes.....but stay out of my business, leave me alone, and don't tell me what to do.
I’ll become a tree hugging, tree planter on my own dime if it irks this ass-hat and the Rukias. Who’s with me? Where should we start?
Yall assume that all nice things being done for the city are done just by white people (like planting trees) then, you assume that all complaints about gentrification are race (as opposed to affordability based). Yet, yall are somehow not racist AF.
That’s the type of cognitive dissonance that makes reasonable people from elsewhere assume you’re an illiterate moron.
Kingfish, your race baiting headline certainly seemed to contribute to the problem…
Thankfully, the voters of Jackson just put those idiots on the sidelines after watching them dismantle the city for eight years. His feeble new reality distortion field is not fooling anyone.
"these people's idea of equity is for everyone to live in the same slop."
Yep, except for them, of course. Their idea of authentic black-ness is inner-city ghetto.
Those trees are obviously racist.
Fondren is no longer all white and all the worse for that.
They also bitch constantly about non blacks owning convenience stores in their neighborhoods. Earlier this week I saw a FB post from a black woman running a convenience store in a black neighborhood in Jackson and how she was fed up with the thieving and general bad behavior.
