Hinds County District Attorney Brad McCullouch issued the following statement.
Hinds County District Attorney Brad McCullouch announced that 21-year-old Ruben Crosby was convicted of Murder and Aggravated Assault for his role in a September 15, 2023, shootout at an Ellis Avenue gas station that killed 20-year-old Lahenrya Perry and wounded a juvenile. Evidence at trial showed that a black vehicle sped past the gas station and opened fire toward people gathered near the gas pumps. Crosby emerged from the gas station, returning fire in the direction of the vehicle, although it was no longer in the vicinity. The shots he fired struck a nearby Toyota Camry, fatally wounding Perry as she sat inside the vehicle. Two other women were also wounded during the shootout. Surveillance video further showed Crosby approaching the Camry, looking inside, and then fleeing the scene in a red Chrysler 200 with another man. Investigators later identified Crosby as the shooter.
Crosby was found guilty of Murder, Aggravated Assault and Shooting into a Vehicle. He was sentenced to 30 years for Murder, with 10 years suspended and 20 years to serve, 10 years for Aggravated Assault and five years for Shooting into a Vehicle. The sentences will run concurrently, for a total of 20 years to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. “Ruben Crosby chose to fire a gun at a crowded gas station, although the original danger had passed. While Lahenrya Perry was not his intended target, her death was the direct result of his decision to fire. This verdict holds him accountable for that choice,” said Hinds County District Attorney Brad McCullouch. “Assistant District Attorneys Gwen Agho and Evan Enochs built this case piece by piece and presented it with the preparation and precision that a serious violent-crime prosecution demands,” McCullouch said.

She participated in the prosecution of Anthony Fox. The prosecution in that case used witnesses they knew were lying when they claimed that the deceased was beaten. We need an honest DA. Is that really too much to ask?
