JPD issued the following statement.
On Friday, August 14, 2026, a black male victim was at a park in the 800 block of W. Capitol Street when he became a victim of kidnapping, rape and a death-threat by the suspect stating he would kill the victim if he told anyone about the incident. The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Ladarius Smith. Smith was arrested on August 17, 2026, and charged with Kidnapping, Rape and Intimidating a Witness. On August 18, 2026, he appeared in Municipal Court and was given a combined bond of $4,100,000 dollars. (4.1M) Bond.Kingfish: Once again, we have us another graduate of the Hinds County Catch & Release program.
JPD arrested Smith in 2017 for house burglary but the case was dismissed. Smith pleaded guilty to an indictment for business burglary in 2023. Circuit Judge William Kidd sentenced Smith to serve 142 days in jail. JPD arrested Smith again in 2023 for felony possession of meth. Smith pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. County Court Judge Johnny McDaniels sentenced Smith to serve 180 days in jail.
JPD arrested Smith for business burglary yet again after he allegedly broke into the AT&T warehouse on TV Road. A Jackson Municipal Court Judge set his bond at $60,000 and decreed on July 7, 2026:
"It is therefore, Ordered that the Bond in this matter be set at $60,000 unsecured. Said bond status is contingent upon the Defendant's completion of the Program at Gateway Recovery Program and all previous bond conditions including GPS monitoring remaining the same. It is further Ordered that upon completion of the Program at Gateway Recovery Program the Defendant shall be returned to the Raymond Detention Center and a status hearing will be scheduled within seven (7) days ofreturn to said detention center."
It appears a little bond revocation is in order.

Bullet. Between the eyes. Today. Nothing less will do.
Dead pedophiles don't reoffend.
yet another case in a long string of Hinds County Judicial malfeasance.
As ugly as he is I guess getting a female date is impossible.
Wood chipper, pecker first.
5-04, 150, and ugly.
Crump, Sharpton and the other race baiters on scene in 3, 2, 1.....well, maybe not. Butt, butt, the victim is black. Oh wait, the suspect is also black.
The Legislature needs to strengthen penalties for repeat offenders. This guy should have been locked up long ago.
Democrats notwithstanding, we don't need criminal illegal aliens (there, I said it). Mississippi has plenty of a subculture of home grown miscreants.
Another candidate for death. General pop justice please.
I hope that he now has an acute UTI.
It appears a little life revocation is in order.
Y'all are just being mean to the young man. He looks like a cooperative young lad to me. It would be a real shame if someone started a rumor around the lockup that he was telling every law enforcement agency from the dog catcher to the NSA all sorts of stuff about every local Jackson gangst..., er, youths gettin' their lives in order...that he even had a street name for.

I don’t know that rape would be the appropriate charge since the victim is a make, Sexual battery would be, though.
Mississippi statute states the forced sexual penetration of “any person.”
Naw... just castrate him, and I mean the entire male unit.
These judges need to be held accountable for releasing repeat, violent criminals back onto the public. If I had a few thousand dollars to spend on MEC/PAMEC fees to scrape the data, I'd compile a complete database of all criminal case & pretrial/bail data for the last decade, and publish an analysis of every judge (release rate, bond rate/amounts, etc.) with a focus on repeat offenders. I think it would be eye-opening
