Is there a culture of bribery in Jackson?
A federal grand jury indicted Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, Mayor Lumumba, and City Councilman Aaron Banks on public corruption charges in 2024. Former Councilwoman Angelique Lee and insurance mogul Marve Smith pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit bribery in 2024 as well.
Owens filed a motion to dismiss with a supporting memorandum and 47 exhibits Monday in U.S. District Court. The Justice Department almost immediately asked U.S. District Judge Daniel P. Jordan, III to seal the filing the same day, claiming it violated a protective order.
Judge Jordan granted the request and sealed the filings the next day but not before most of the local media downloaded the motion and the supporting exhibits.

Torrence Mayfield is currently at a United States Penitentary at Pine Knot Kentucky.
He plead guilty to a federal felony charge on November 20, 2024. He falsely certified he was not a straw buyer when in fact he was a straw buyer for a convicted felon.

If the feds worked like a hal fassed auditor they could have made an arrest or two in 2020 and held a big press conference and announced Jody and Chokwe were whistleblowers!

So the FBI had this reliable information, yet, the best they could do was charge Mayfield with one count of lending a hunting rifle to Moore after Mayfield said no on 8 recorded calls then finally relented on the 9th solicitation?
Why is everyone forgetting this all started with Harvey and club owner with that dumpy Convention Center. Refusing to pay bribes to Jackson leaders is why outlet mall went to Pearl. Beale Street developer also refused to pay $20k just to talk about Farish Street development.
I wonder what Owens's purpose was in filing all of this dirt into the public record, in support of a motion to dismiss based on entrapment.
What is an insurance mogul? I’ve known some very honest and prominent Insurance Agents and Underwriters but never have I met a mogul. Would that be considered the owner of a large insurance corporation?

True story. I had recently met one of the named detectives several years ago, and happened to have their number. I came across an extremely potential grisly scene. When you hear that a decomposing human smells different than anything else, I now know what they are talking about. I called that homicide detective to report my find, and that detective then told me not to call them about it, to just call the police. I did, and eventually a patrol officer rolled by, never got out of their car, and kept rolling. I figured if the police weren’t concerned enough to care, I sure wasn’t gonna go poking around anymore. I guess the vultures eventually finished what they had started.
Bribery has a long, long history in Jackson, Hinds County and all the surrounding counties. The new guys don't have the "good ole boys" network to cover their asses and the feds didn't have the same sweet tooth for Jackson they have now. But that's no excuse for the stupidity and arrogance these fools display.
