Millsaps College issued the following statement.
Millsaps College is expanding opportunities to elite education for
the state’s brightest students with the launch of the Millsaps Advantage Scholarship.
This scholarship will cover the cost of tuition and fees for high-achieving students
from across Mississippi.
“The Millsaps Advantage Scholarship is designed to open the door to a top-tier
education for the state’s highest-achieving Pell-eligible students,” said Aaron Pelch,
vice president of enrollment and admissions. “By investing in these exceptional
students and encouraging them to pursue their education right here at home, we’re
working to retain Mississippi’s most promising talent and strengthen the state’s
future — while helping each student build a strong foundation for theirs.”
Beginning with the incoming class of Fall 2026, Pell-eligible Mississippi students
who apply to Millsaps and meet the academic criteria, including a minimum 3.5 GPA
and a 25 or higher ACT score, will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
The award is renewable for four years for students who continue to meet Millsaps’
academic standards.
The Millsaps Advantage Scholarship is designed to:
• Expand access to one of Princeton Review’s Best Colleges in the South.
• Celebrate and retain homegrown talent, encouraging students to pursue
their education, internships and in Mississippi.
• Support long-term success by investing in students with the potential to
become leaders in their communities and professions.
Millsaps graduates earn the highest average salary in Mississippi, and 90 percent
are employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation. Millsaps also
boasts acceptance rates double the national average for medical, dental and
veterinary schools, which turn out crucial healthcare professionals across the state.
The college is ranked the Best College in Mississippi by Research.com and is
consistently recognized for academic excellence, leadership development and
commitment to community engagement.

Great! If you want to see a resilient capital city, you need a resilient Millsaps. It is easy to kick the around but pay attention. They have a new President and a new attitude. I'm sure they are still in the fiber of the place but you haven't seen any of that DEI bull coming out of there - at least publicly.
MC already offers free tuition for MS residents. Higher entering GRE scores, higher entering average ACT for a few years now….
Millsaps offered me a scholarship back in the day. I turned them down because they didn't offer a useful major.
So if the student doesn’t have to pay, who or what does pay for making this “investment in Mississippi”? Or does Millsaps take a financial bath and eat the cost of providing the funding for four years of education?
"Pell eligible" is the gotcha here. Pell grants are only awarded to students from the significantly lower tax brackets.
Have you checked out Mississippi’s PCI lately? I think we are good there.

Yep. Another local college/university tried this strategy.
Serious culture clash backfire.
They are attempting to walk it back now with other long term endowment strategies.
Millsaps is nothing more than an indoctrination camp producing liberal quacks.
