Oops!

It appears some judges are not so non-partisan on the bench.  Exhibit A: Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge Latrice Westbrooks.

Yup.  The jurist wore a scarf sporting the image of Nancy Pelosi during the oral arguments for ABL Management v. Rowell last week.

And not a damn thing will be said/done about it. Criticizing it would, somehow, be considered racist.

This is infuriating!!

As hard as it is to believe, the scarf makes Pelosi look even worse than she actually does.
9:14 is right, at least as far as nothing being done about it It's (D)ifferent when they do it.

Anonymous said...

This is why we must redraw district lines. We need to keep people like Latrice and Leslie King on our appellate benches.

She is awful. Awful and the perfect example of how changing the election of Supreme Court justices will water down and dumb down the court itself. Awful.

Anonymous said...

I see Ruth Bader Ginsburg poking her head out too.

Anonymous said...

What is the process to impeach Mississippi Court of Appeals judges?

Anonymous said...

No reason to wear that scarf in court other than to make a noticeable statement.

Anonymous said...

You should never wear something like that as a judge. I would say the same if someone wore a MAGA scarf, a Mike Pence scarf, an Obama scarf, a Marco Rubio scarf, a Gavin Newsom scarf, a Donald Trump scarf ............

Bar sanctions? Chirp chirp.

Anonymous said...

I see half of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's face on the scarf as well. Maybe she's just honoring women. Pelosi, love or hate, was the first female Speaker of the House. Why does everything have to be some damn conspiracy? I thought wokeness was dead. Stop crying about every damn thing.

I don’t think it’s political. She’s just a big fan of “Tales from the Crypt.”

Anonymous said...

Maybe that just means she’s a fan of insider trading.

Anonymous said...

9:51, because as we are finding out, everything damn thing is a conspiracy. A small portion of the democrats are incredibly stupid and corrupt. Case in point is the continuous Trump bashing is one of the things that got him elected. Anyone over above 12 years old gets tired of it. Stay on that train though, + open borders, + defund the police talk, + not stepping up and defending "females only" in female sports, + corrupt kick backs from overseas. It's incredible to me the dems still don't know why the lost the election.

A judge shall respect and comply with the law and shall act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary. Canon 2(a), Miss. Code of Judicial Conduct.

Commentary
Public confidence in the judiciary is eroded by irresponsible or improper conduct by judges. A judge must avoid all impropriety and appearance of impropriety. A judge must expect to be the subject of constant public scrutiny. A judge must therefore accept restrictions on the judge's conduct that might be viewed as burdensome by the ordinary citizen and should do so freely and willingly.

The prohibition against behaving with impropriety or the appearance of impropriety applies to both the professional and personal conduct of a judge. Because it is not practicable to list all prohibited acts, the proscription is necessarily cast in general terms that extend to conduct by judges that is harmful although not specifically mentioned in the Code. Actual improprieties under this standard include violations of law, court rules or other specific provisions of this Code. The test for appearance of impropriety is whether, based on the conduct, the judge’s impartiality might be questioned by a
reasonable person knowing all the circumstances.

What’s not mentioned is the chief judge, Donna Barnes, is sitting right next to her. She allowed her to walk out with that scarf not once but twice.

More proof that Judge Aycock striking down the Mississippi Supreme Court Districts (JJ link below) is Horse S__t. Democrat politicians and Democrat judges are in your face with their biases. But RINO politicians and RINO judges like Judge Aycock keep looking like fools pretending we’re not in a civil cold war with crime and criminal loving Democrats.

Her scarf covers a lot of bases. Ginsberg, George Floyd, Pelosi...several more indistinguishable. She does shit like this to make a statement.

King was a Greenville racist decades before he took a seat on the bench.

If you want to read a book that will scare the crap out of you read “Breaking The Law”. Scary as waking up next to Nancy Pelosi

Anonymous said...

@9:44. The Bar has no jurisdiction over judges. Chirp that.

And the scarf appears to me to be about women, not politics. So I don't want to leave the wrong impression, Westbrooks, J. is unqualified just like her predecessors -- Ceola James and Ermea Russell -- but for being elected

Appearance of Impropriety in All Activities

Bingo @9:37. It’s not that I disagree with her politically. It’s simply that you absolutely, positively cannot do that on the bench. Should absolutely be sanctioned and receive a public reprimand from the bar and Supreme Court

Every judge should know that a certain percentage of society will be driven bat-sh*t crazy at the sight of 1/2 of Nancy Pelosi's face.

This demonstrates very poor judgment on her part.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Pelosi shares her "insider trading" tips with the judge.

Anonymous said...

I would love to walk into her courtroom wearing a MAGA hat and shirt and dare this loser to say something.

Anonymous said...

So long as you have Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito on the bench, you have zero, and I mean zero, room to talk, Kingfish

Anonymous said...

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will be done about this conduct.
Those who should adress this conduct are paralyzed. She is untouchable.

Anonymous said...

Y’all get a grip! She isn’t celebrating a political party or ideology. She is celebrating WOMEN!

Anonymous said...

i been in the practice of law , mostly just good old fashioned street law, since 1986, and this is way out of line.
this woman has long been known as not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
people like her do this sort of thing when they are short on brains and long on mouth.

Anonymous said...

12:35, Yeah, but we all know that a lot of people don't have a grip, and couldn't get one if they tried. The judge should know that too. She invited controversy by wearing that scarf during oral arguments.

In my daily life, I don't give a rip if I offend someone with super-delicate sensibilities (excluding certain friends and family). But in court is a different matter. It should be about the law and the case, not the lawyers or the judge.

Anonymous said...

you can be sure about this:
1. she has not a single colleague on the COA or the MSC who will question this. not even tough guy emfinger from rankin county.
2. there is NO member of the MISSISSIPPI committee on judicial performance who will have the guts to call her out on this. the judicial performance committee will tell you ''we dont regulate women's fashion''.

Anonymous said...

to 12:35..........thats so easy to say now.

I wonder what would be said to appellate counsel - male or female - who dared to show up in "Bermudian business dress" - a pair (real) Bermuda shorts, "hose"/knee-socks, a blazer, dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes. Or "Rankin/Madison County bidness dress" - cargo shorts, a fishing shirt, Flora-Bama or Destin visor, Costas, flip-flops, and a 2-quart Yeti tumbler full of Crown with a splash of Sprite...

Just think, If somehow Kenneth Stokes had passed the bar exam, he could be sitting there too.

The Supreme Court should be forced to wear maga hats. I’d prefer all the senators and congressmen wear the logos of all their corporate donors. We need to know who they are actually representing cause it ain’t us.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
