Watch Mayor John Horhn's inauguration live-streamed below, courtesy of WLBT.
* Governor Tate Reeves, Leftenent Governor Delbert Hosemann, and Congressman Bennie Thompson are in attendance.
* Congressman Thompson welcomed everyone, saying "this is a democracy. Sometime we win, sometimes we lose, but we don't tear the place up." Mayor Horhn's father was a long-time employee of the Congressman.
* Bishop Ronnie Crudup, Sr. gave the invocation.
* Governor Reeves said he and Mayor Horhn "did not always agree on everything," and still would not agree on everything. He said they agreed on one thing: "the city of Jackson is vital to the future of Mississippi... It's a cultural hub, an economic driver. For Mississippi to reach its full potential, we need Jackson to succeed." The Governor said the inauguration was the beginning of a "new partnership" as he pledged to work with the city of Jackson.
* Congressman Thompson called Ward 1 Councilman Ashby Foote "Ashley."
* Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth I. Stokes wore his trademark "Stokes" hat.
* Fifth Circuit and former Hinds County Circuit Judge James Graves swore in Mayor Horhn.
* Mayor Horhn addressed the crowd a few minutes after noon. His gravely voice said "I can tell you, this speech won't be long because my iPad just died" to much laughter. Hizzoner thanked the Congressman, calling him a "true, American hero."
The Mayor said he decided to "do this" because of his love for Jackson. "We need new leadership in Jackson. Our city is in a bad place right now. But in the last 30-60 days right now, I've seen more excitement, more hopefulness, than I've seen in years," he said. However, he said "the future for Jackson is bright."
The Congressional delegation, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor had the same message; "Tell us what you need."
* Attorney and former Circuit Judge Robert Gibbs followed after the Mayor. "This is a great day," he said.

That was one of the worst National Anthems I've ever heard. What ever happened to just singing it normally?
And Chokwe brought us together just like that.
Is this the first time that Governor Tate Reeves and Congressman Bennie Thompson have been in the same room let alone same stage together? This is really a big deal no matter how some commenters will be sarcastic or dismissive about this.
I wish him good luck. I hope he will surround himself with capable people who want to make a positive difference in Jackson.
No thanks. Those two specimens at the news desk are enough.
Just listening to his comments, it's clear to see that Bennie Thompson really IS a piece of shit
Politicians - mostly self-service, not public service.
Agree, we do need Jackson to do better than it's doing. But time will tell if he can do that.
Can we put Bennie in charge of the garbage cans?
12:41 Mayor Horhn said that he is putting people in place who are smarter than he is in their respective future positions. His very diverse inaugural committee and transition team are a good example.
Who is nastier, 1:49 or 1:57? Close call. News team is made up of good people. Not a huge Bennie fan, but he conducted himself beautifully and will be a huge asset to the City and this administration. Y'all grow up.
2:58 - you obviously do not know Bennie, or have never had any dealing with him. 1:57 for the best WIN of all times.
Day'um ... I haven't seen Kane Ditto speaking at a major public
forum in years.
When Kane Ditto walked across that stage... I actually thought
I was watching Dilbert.
Is Melissa Payne gone?
Did anyone think to interview Sister R?
What Dr O doin?
Did Bennie wear his Biden autopen pardon outside his pants, for all the honest world to feel?
It's amazing to me how negative some of you are. Actually, I've worked to improve Mississippi for zero pay and none of the people that some of you trash are other than nice, educated and hard working people. I'm more fond of the ones who will tell you why they cannot do what you think you support no matter how much you think it will help/work to make things better. We used to call that honesty. Bennie and Horhn are two of those. I didn't always agree with them but they both did their " homework" and tried to do their best for us. I respected Bob Montgomery and Gil Carmicheal and a few others for the same reason.
