Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods issued the following statement.
As Sheriff of Claiborne County, I want to publicly state that I am highly against the party being promoted for Saturday, June 14th at 802 Market Street. This comes in light of the recent tragedy in Jefferson County where a life was lost, and tensions remain high in surrounding communities.
This event is being hosted within the city limits by outside promoters from Jefferson County and Vicksburg. Given these circumstances, we have serious concerns about the timing and potential risks associated with this gathering.
While in the past, our department has always patrolled such events to help ensure things ran smoothly, we are now asking the promoters and party planners to be sensitive to the overall concerns of the community. Be mindful and patient—give Jefferson County authorities the chance to make the necessary arrests so we don’t have a repeat of what happened down there.
We will be adjusting our safety efforts accordingly. My deputies will be setting up checkpoints on both the north and south ends of the county to help maintain order and safety.

I pray for safety for people attending this event.
Do people that attend events like this realize there is an elevated chance of violence? Is that part of the thrill?
looks fun. thanks for sharing.
Will The 2LiveCrew be performing?
Culturally, we are in a race to the bottom, and anyone associated with this event just took a big lead.
Will there be a twerking competition? Yes? I'm in.
Please check your guns and knives at the door.
My money is on Comelia Walker. She can probably just submit her video. If not she can skedaddle on up there to win dat moola.
the sheriff is right. out of town promoters always bring trouble with them.
I love the promotional poster. It should erase any doubt as to the crowds character.
P Diddy party…
places $20 on 3 shot 2 killed
They're going to regret the damage to their joints (knees, ankles, backbone, etc; not the other kind of joint) in 20 years after all that twerking.
It’s hard to believe that Port Gibson and Fayette were once thriving communities.
They may be too tired to twerk after attending the No Kings protests. Gonna be a long day.
Does Chockwe know he’s invited?
Just like you and me, not a bit of difference, so take your racist opinions and judgments back to Sunday School with you.
Y'all ever been to Claiborne County? It's basically this and hunting camps. Not much in between. Very kin to Lexington/Holmes County.
Does anyone remember the music of the 60’s and 70’s when peace and love were sung about instead of hatred? The black community got away from that and it has affected their youth by listening to that garbage called rap and hip hop. George Benson didn’t sing about hate, Ray Charles didn’t sing about hate, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were great, the O’Jays sang about the Love Train, Marvin Gaye, Dianna Ross, The Fifth Dimension and many more were great artists who to this day you can enjoy their music and feel good. Nobody ever got shot listening to them.
Bet they all go to church on Sunday and raise their hand to God. Can I get an Amen and Witness.
There's a SHAKEDATASSFEST coming to their town?
What could go wrong?
The poster reaks of racism.
It could be that the ASSFEST promoters and attendees aren't dissuaded by the lack of emergency services in case of some sort of mass casualty event due to those attending getting wild.
10:33 - I'd bet next year's salary that someone has gotten shot listening to all of them at some point or another. It's apparently a way of life.
What entity permitted this thing?
As I did my research for my volunteer judge position I learned that Port Gibson had the state’s first library and second newspaper. This must certainly be why the scholars organizing this educational event chose this location, which is also the county “seat”.
Thank you , 10:33 - you were probably a big fan of STAX also. As a young freshman at Ole Miss, several, no make that a few, of us went to a "review" at the old Ellis Auditorium in Memphis. All black entertainers, about 95% of the audience was black - the other 5% were white college kids. Everyone had a great time. There is no way I would go to a rap concert under any circumstances - I like living too much.
I gotz $20 on THREE shot, ONE killed..... BOOM, shaka laka
It's all fun and games till somebody gets disrespected.
In a way I have to agree with you.
Is there a cover charge?🌞
