The city of Clinton issued the following statement.
In a landmark decision, the wrongful conviction of Detective Anthony Fox has been reversed, marking a significant turning point in the pursuit of justice. The Mississippi Court of Appeals overturned the previous conviction, citing insufficient credible evidence to convict Fox as the basis for the reversal.
Fox was initially convicted in the 2019 death of George Robinson and was sentenced to five years in prison in August 2022 after a jury found him guilty of culpable negligence manslaughter. Since the judgment, the City of Clinton has been steadfast in the pursuit of Fox’s acquittal, citing the charges as unsupported and inappropriate.
After 544 days of incarceration, the Clinton Police Department is proud to announce that Detective Fox will be returning home. The City of Clinton is unified in solidarity as the conviction of Fox is overturned, affirming the officer's innocence, and marking a pivotal moment for justice. Along with his K-9 partner Anika, Fox will resume his duties as a narcotics detective with CPD as soon as possible.

Nice move by Phil Fisher and his Clinton Police Department.
Too bad the City of Clinton has to put up with the so-called "justice" administered by folks like Adrian Wooten and a jury of 'so-called peers' of people like Fox.
Jody Owen’s SHAME ON YOU as you continue to spew anything not supporting the release of Officer Fox. I am thankful the SC found Officer Fox NOT GUILTY! Now Owen’s and Mayor LUMUMBA Keep Your Mouths Shut! Thank you for your service OfficerFox and Clinton for new hires! God Bless You!
544 days. If my math is correct, that's a year and a half in jail he's been wrongfully incarcerated.
Did the city of Clinton consider him still employed during that time? Did his family retain health insurance? Will he receive retroactive pay and benefits accumulation. Will he recover from that, psychologically, EVER?
Would you or I return to this job? I don't know. Do you?
Maybe he can get an 83M judgement against this DA for doing this to him.
This incident happened while he was employed by JPD, not Clinton PD.
This is an answer to prayers and, finally, justice. Welcome home, Detective Fox.
7:33- Your point?
Now if Clinton could just secede from Hinds County.
I too am confused what this has to do with Clinton? He worked at JPD. Please advise.
After he was charged with murder, Fox went to work for Clinton P.D. A lot of JPD officers resigned as well because they saw that they could end up in prison just by doing their jobs. That is one reason we have had so few officers in the last few years. Now we have gun battles on State Street killing innocent drivers and a large percentage of Jacksonians ignore red lights. With very little enforcement under Lumumba, there is zero respect for the law. Lumumba is killing Jackson. He's the one who instigated the prosecution of Fox. He is the reason Jackson is worse than it ever was.
12:24, thank you for connecting the dots.
I would have thought that the family could have sued UMMC for this, but, you know, blame the police.
@ 12:24
Excellent explanation... Thank You !
"A lot of JPD officers resigned as well because they saw that they could end up in prison..."
That's interesting. I'm not saying it's not true, but is there a link to support the claim?
12:24 here. I have a friend whose job keeps him in contact with many officers. There was a video on youtube of people having fits after Robinson was arrested and they made the same completely false claims that the witnesses made at trial that up to FIVE OFFICERS were kicking and beating Robinson with their feet, hands, and flashlights. But as the autopsy showed, these claims were false. There were no injuries other than the abrasion on the head that ended up becoming a subdural hematoma (Robinson had recently had a stroke and was on blood thinners, had diabetes and hypertension).
A few days after Robinson passed away, Lumumba called a meeting of various city officials. Fox, Lampley, and Barney were made to attend this meeting. They were asked in front of the room of people what happened. Each recited the same facts they give to this day. The mayor decided to have this meeting instead of having the Jackson Police Department investigate the incident. The only investigation conducted by them was a brief initial investigation and an internal affairs investigation. The police department did not want to conduct the investigation of their own. For one thing, the mayor’s policy of releasing police officers’ names would compromise their investigations. The police department asked the Hinds County District Attorney, Robert Schuler Smith, to investigate. Smith asked the FBI to do it. The FBI conducted a thorough investigation, interviewing many witnesses. In August 2020, United States Attorney D. Michael Hurst, Jr., informed the lawyers for the officers that there were not implicated in any wrongdoing. Smith refused to try and indict the officers. When Jody Owens was elected, Lumumba got another bite at the apple.
Lumumba is anti-police. He may deny it publicly (because he has to) but the facts are the facts. And Jody Owens, who had zero experience in criminal law prior to being elected, takes marching orders from Lumumba. So there you have it - the radical city where there is zero respect for law and order. Vote for Lumumba and that's what you are voting for - innocent people getting killed in gunfire on State Street during rush hour.
And I'm using me real name here. I know that will make me a target but this is a discussion that has to be had if there is to be any hope of making Jackson livable. I started out my legal career defending death row inmates. I was on the board of the MS ACLU. I am as far from an apologist for law enforcement as you could get. But justice is justice and what happened to these three officers was a huge injustice. Everybody counts or nobody counts.
