Case is best argument for original HB #1020.
Ryan Hopkins might finally face justice in Hinds County despite Tomie Green's efforts to keep the accused killer free when she sat on the bench.
A Hinds County grand jury indicted Hopkins in 2020 for allegedly killing a 21 year-old woman in 2019. He allegedly slashed the throat of Celeste McDonald a day after she filed rape charges in Jackson. A police affidavit states:
Hinds County Circuit Judge Faye Peterson held a bond hearing on April 3, 2020. Judge Peterson set his bond at $50,000 and placed him under house arrest since he had not been indicted since his April 4, 2019 arrest. Hopkins served time for a 2009 felony sexual assault conviction in Iowa and a 2013 aggravated assault conviction in Arkansas.
The Hinds County grand jury finally indicted Hopkins in June 2020 for first degree murder and conspiracy. However, the indictment was not served upon him until April 2021 since the monitoring company went out of business, thus allowing Hopkins to roam free for nine months after his indictment. Unfortunately for all, Judge Green kept Hopkins' bond at $50,000 and allowed him to remain under house arrest on May 28, 2021. You read that correctly. Judge Green allowed a man convicted of rape and aggravated assault in other states to remain free on "house arrest" after he was indicted for murder.
Hopkins retained attorney Dennis Sweet, IV. Sweet was able to obtain court permission for Hopkins to get a CDL. Having obtained the CDL, he was able to leave the state driving trucks. It was part of his job, you understand.
Hopkins allegedly kidnapped a woman in Arkansas and took her to New Hampshire where he repeatedly beat and raped her in August 2022 (See p.9 in police affidavit in documents posted below.).
A New Hampshire grand jury indicted him for two counts of kidnapping, three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault/domestic violence, three counts of aggravated sexual felonious sexual assault, criminal restraint, criminal threatening-domestic violence, and felon in possession of a deadly weapon on December 1, 2022. Earlier post.
Despite all the indictments, Hopkins pleaded guilty to a charge of felon in possession of a deadly weapon. Once New Hampshire was through with Hopkins, Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd issued a bench warrant for his arrest. New Hampshire extradited Hopkins to Hinds County where he will await trial.

Every one of the victims should be able to sue Judge Green. This story is incredibly sad.
Textbook example of the left's love of evil, chaos and destruction. This is what is roaming all over our country. He (it) has no fear of consequences and will never change. Therefore, he must be contained forever, or put down.
How much blood is on Judge Green's hands?
The trucking company(ies) that hired this man, with that record, should also be held liable. Background checks would have revealed at least some of his criminal history.
Sweet's role in helping him obtain a CDL is incompetence of the highest order on the part of an attorney.
Sweet knew of his background and still chose to help put the man in proximity to customers, waitresses, motel employees, female drivers, trucking company employees, truck stop staff and others who were at risk in his presence.
There are several bastards in this scenario and Sweet is one of them. If this doesn't serve as an advertisement to stay the hell away from Attorney Sweet, I don't know what would.
We have a pitiful no good useless group of judges. Then, we have a few very good ones but for the most part Green needs to go. How would she like it if one of her family members were raped or murdered by someone that another judge went soft on?Now you see why HB1020 was needed. It’s too late in many previous cases but it’s about time something has happened on a positive level. Stop bringing race into the picture and saying “my people’s need to take care of their own”. That in itself is the complete problem. I was wondering how this animal was found in New Hampshire. He was a truck driver and like a previous person said earlier the company that hired him should be sued also along with the attorney and the attorney should be disbarred.
There wouldn’t have been any victims of this piece of shit if Mommy hadn’t been out late being a bad girl.
(I know, Fish, that won’t pass muster and’ll never appear in the comments, but you and I will know it’s true.)
Ryan’s mom Delores was a JPS deputy superintendent and seemed to be a good mom. Ryan was a great football player for Jim Hill. I had a few interactions with him and he was always polite and I expected him to be successful one day. This is terribly sad and I would love to know what happened to lead him down the wrong path.
@ 7:14 - It's simple...He got a whiff of the magic stuff but he was ugly.
