Former Football Star Falls Further

A former Provine football star who made it to the NFL continued his downward spiral.  JPD arrested Quinton Culberson for business burglary, auto burglary, and grand larceny.  The charges are just one more episode in a string of arrests and substance abuse problems over the last decade.

JJ reported on June 2, 2017:

Former Mississippi State University linebacker Quinton Culberson has been on a downward spiral for the last year.  He was convicted of a felony DUI last year but continues to have substance abuse problems.  He was arrested twice in November for business burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was again arrested for violating the terms of his probation.

Culberson was an All-SEC Linebacker during his senior year at MSU.  The Provine High School graduate signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted rookie in 2007 and stayed on the roster for two years.  He was cut by the Rams and played with the Carolina Panthers for a year.

A Hinds County grand jury indicted Culberson in July 2014 for a third-offense felony DUI.  The indictment states that he was convicted of previous DUI's in Starkville and Oktibbeha County in 2013.  He pleaded guilty in February 2016 to DUI Felony.  Circuit Judge Bill Gowan sentenced him to serve five years in prison but suspended four years of the sentence and ordered him to serve the remaining year under house arrest.  He was also placed under a three year term of supervised probation and required to submit for alcohol and drug treatment program.

Culberson violated probation in 2016 when JPD arrested him for possessing drug paraphenalia and testing positive for crack cocaine.  Judge Gowan allowed him to enter a drug treatment program.

Unfortunately, Culberson continued to get in trouble.  A Hinds County grand jury indicted him for aggravated assault, kidnapping, and strong-arm robbery on March 10, 2020.  The indictment alleged Culberson kidnapped his father, Quincy Culberson, fractured his jaw, and forced him to withdraw $60 from an ATM.

The case was assigned to Circuit Judge Tomie Green where it sits on her docket.  Apparently Culberson was in an alcohol rehab program (Friends of Alcoholics) in lieu of jail.  If he was released from the program, he was to be returned to jail.  The facility did not notify the District Attorney that Culberson left the program and was "back on the streets."   Culberson apparently held a knife to the neck of another person in the program and refused to take his medication.  She revoked his bond on September 30, 2021. He was finally arrested on August 29, 2022.

Culberson wasn't through getting in trouble.  JPD charged him with two counts of business burglary, two counts of auto burglary, and grand larceny.  The Jackson Municipal Court set his bond at $50,000 and transferred the case to Hinds County Court for a preliminary hearing.

Those former MS NFL stars always get break after break, right Brett?

@12:13
When did Brett get multiple DUIs and then convictions for drug possession? Worst thing I remember him getting publicity for, was sending unsolicited dick pics to adult women.

@12:40 PM Brett, thanks for checking in.

If you google this guy, it shows his net worth between 1 And 5 million dollars. NOT!

Drug are bad, mmmmkay

@1:01

Google can’t tell you someone’s net-worth. Only that person’s CPA and the IRS know that. Anyone claiming to know, are always just guessing.

Favre didn't steal monies. Politicians gave him monies. You would've taken the monies, too.

Unable to make the grade as a foo'paw star, couldn't he just go get a regular job?

What do you want me to say? Drugs. He apparently got a real bad drug, alcohol, or both habit. He physically attacked those who probably tried to help him . Broke his father's jaw, held a knife to the throat of a fellow rebab patient.

1:01 When you Google net worth its usually determined by what he made during his NFL career.

Anonymous said...

Kingfish; Nobody wants you to say anything. You think too highly of your occasional input. Just throw the raw meat out there for consumption and take a seat in the cheap seats. And if you really want to contribute, wrap up the story...What happened after his final arrest?

Anonymous said...

Maybe he will share a cell with Brett. No wait, sorry I forgot.

Anonymous said...

Are he and Jimmy Smith friends?

Drugs are bad.

You don’t speak for me. kingfish is a midwit cuck. But I enjoy his take.

Where are the coaches?

Where, are, the coaches???

I said, WHERE ARE THE DAMN COACHES?!?!?

Get the coaches back in his life, and he’ll get back on his feet and back to the NFL and all this nonsense will be forgot about!

It was the football coaches like Coach O, Coach Sabin, and so many others that coached us about what to do to stop the spread of the coronavirus in 2020. Football saved us! Football is the heartbeat of this State, and the heart of this great country that we live in - so we all need to listen to what the football experts tell us. This is a football state and football region, and if you don’t like that, then get the hell out of here!!!! And don’t let your schoolbook and dorky backpack hit you on the behind that couldn’t even run the 40 in under 4.8 in high school on the way out!!!!!!

And with that, Kingfish, I challenge you to stop approving comments of these pencilnecks and geeks who never made the team and who write derogatory names for the sport that commands everything in our lives. This foo’paw comments are what I’m talking about! Some Joe Biden supporter, I bet. Stop insulting the sport, this state, and this country! By approving it.

Respect the game that gives us all life, and don’t put down a player just because the coaches in his life are dragging. With that, get back to sources like the SEC Network, the Paul Finebaum and Bro Bounds shows, every day ALL DAMN DAY, and get coached by it all, and we will all better people for it.

This JJ story has been up for almost a day and nobody from Ole Miss has posted how this is typical of players coming from MSU.

If the thug had played for Ole Miss the Mississippi State haters would almost surely have been posting here and “judging” (probably right after attending church on Sunday).

P.S. Kingfish, you are a trip sir! You regularly censor factual speech that even the commies (whistle blower’s word) at Twitter would allow, then let 4:12 PM & 7:34 PM tongue lash you like this?

He who is without sin cast the first stone.

6:48, Ole Miss people do not care about Mississippi State and their players.

Anonymous said...

If it wasn't for football most of the players would be in prison. There's a fine line between.

Anonymous said...

It's either go to jail or join the NFL.

Anonymous said...

Seems like the Ole Miss fan at 6:48 cares an awful lot about MSU, 9:48?

6:48 (clearly an OM fan) is just mad that another OM fan did not begin the bashing earlier.

Ole Miss fan here. This will probably be a result of CTE. He was great because he hit hard and often. Now the result no one wants to own. Don’t throw the stone.

1:04 sadly you are probably 100% correct. People love to read articles making these men out to be monsters but the real problem is ownership of the problem. Nobody wants to admit they love a sport that takes kids fathers away at young age. There is no excuse for the behavior and he is responsible for his life choices. However, many of these former gridiron greats and their families have to live with the lasting effects of the brain trauma from decades of being cheered on to make the most violent hits they could. Then when its over the ones that have no support system (which is most bc it takes a certain background and mental mind frame to be elite at a violent sport). The ones who have support manage the symptoms, the ones that don't turn to every thing they can to make themselves feel normal. Its not just 1 or 2. Every week there is some former player getting written about in his 30s and 40s and nobody seems to have an answer except they make bad choices so must be a bad person. Yes some are just bad moral characters but many may have a degree but how can they use a degree if their brain has been totally destroyed? Its only a matter of time before this blows up in everyone's face.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
