Suspect Steals Brandon Police Car

The Brandon Police Department issued the following statement.

Before proceeding with this release, it is most important to note that the officer involved in this incident suffered only minor injuries which did not require any medical attention. This is more important than anything else in regard to this matter.

At 11:07 AM today, the Brandon Police Department received a call regarding a domestic disturbance that was occurring inside of a vehicle west bound on I-20 just before Exit 56 (Downtown Brandon exit). Before officers could arrive the caller advised that the suspect in this matter, later identified as Lorenzo Leon Taylor of Jackson, MS had exited the vehicle and was walking west along I-20.

When officers arrived in the area, one stopped with the vehicle and the other continued west on I-20 in an attempt to locate the suspect. Taylor was located by the second officer just before the downtown Brandon exit. The officer approached the suspect and asked if he was ok and what was going on. The officer quickly determined that the suspect was going to be uncooperative.

The suspect possessed what is described as a black book bag which he was attempting to get something out of. The officer asked the suspect if there was anything in the bag that would hurt him. The suspect replied something to the effect that, “I have the same thing you do.” Fearing that the suspect was about to retrieve a weapon from the bag, the officer attempted to gain positive control of the bag and the suspect.

The suspect struggled with the officer and attempted to get the officer’s firearm. The suspect then pushed the officer down and ran to the officer’s patrol car and got into the drivers seat. The officer attempted to pull the suspect from the vehicle but the suspect sped away, knocking the officer into oncoming traffic. The officer slid down the side of the patrol car as it was driven away but the officer suffered only minor injuries.

Knowing the suspect had access to other weapons inside the police vehicle, the officer fired one shot into the driver area of the patrol car striking the suspect in the left palm with the bullet continuing into the steering wheel and dash of the vehicle, and another into the rear of the police car as the suspect drove away.

Brandon PD and assisting agencies were able to stop the stolen police car using a blocking technique on I-20 at approximately the 53 mile marker I-20 west bound. Officers removed the suspect from the vehicle and took him into custody. It was at that time it was discovered that the suspect had sustained a grazing gun shot wound to the inside of his left palm.

Medical personnel arrived on scene and determined that the wound was so minor that it did not require a trip to the hospital. It was also discovered that the suspect was wearing an ankle monitor issued by Mississippi Department of Corrections, and MDOC had previously issued a detainer for Taylor with extradition in 2017.

The suspect was transported to the Brandon Police Department for booking, but the suspect remained extremely uncooperative. He was transported directly to the Rankin County Jail where he continued be combative and attempted to kick the windows out of the transporting vehicle.

After his arrest, it was discovered that Taylor had been previously convicted in 2018 by the Bartow County Georgia Superior Court of Robbery by Snatching, Theft by Taking, Obstruction of an Officer, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Driving under the Influence, and various driving and minor offenses, and was sentenced to 20 years, with 5 years to serve and 15 years post-release probation.

Taylor was also sentenced later in 2018 in Cherokee County Georgia Superior Court of two counts Simple Assault, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Attempted Removal of Weapon from Public Official, and Driving under the Influence, and sentenced to serve 10 years, with 5 years to serve and the remaining 5 on probation.
Supervision of Taylor was transferred from the Georgia Department of Corrections to the Mississippi Department of Corrections late last year.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called and is handling the assault on the officer and the officer involved shooting portion of this matter. The Brandon Police Department will be charging the suspect with:

Grand Larceny (Automobile), Felony Evasion, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Other charges will be forthcoming.

Taylor is currently incarcerated at the Rankin County Jail on a $1,050,000.00 bond. Taylor’s initial appearance will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the City of Brandon Municipal Court.

Taylor is also currently on hold for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Get out of Brandon while you still can. Last one out please turn off the lights.

We need billboards going into Brandon telling motorists to not stop for gas there.

No, I don’t hate Brandon. I want it to succeed, and I actually believe what I’m suggesting will help. How dare you say otherwise!

I wish we had those kinds of bonds in Hinds

Funny thing is “they” want equal rights but somehow the “culture” that surrounds them just won’t let them do right. And they can’t figure it out

Seems Nice said...

In Hinds Co. he would enjoy a multitude of blessings.

You mean crime affects good old majority white cities as well? No kidding! Maybe they’ll start moving back to Jackson soon.

The best thing you could do is "NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER" have children....

OK, class. Stop popping gum back there! Let's list the things that went wrong here.

Yes, you in the propeller beanie. "I'm gonna suggest he were bad wrong to not tell the suspect to HALT where he stood, draw down on him and wait for backup. The officer knew by then that the suspect was probably armed. It was plumb toopid to let the suspect engage him physically and get into the car where the officer could have been killed.

That officer is damned lucky he made it home for supper!

So the police officer seems to have forgotten to say that he feared for his life when he shot at the fleeing vehicle. He’s supposed to say the suspect was trying to hit him with the car. He better get his story right when the feds ask what happened.

Some folks just need killing.

7:58 - WHAT feds? The federal government doesn't investigate these situations in municipalities. And, wait! Where do you get that he shot at the 'fleeing vehicle'? You get your news from WLBT at The Daiquiri Bar...right?

Anonymous said...

Oh, wait, sorry. Just re-read the report where it does state that 'as he shit his pants, the officer fired off a couple of rounds including one into his own shoe'.

Anonymous said...

wow fortunately the officer didn't hit any other innocent drivers when shooting his firearm

Anonymous said...

Why did the officer try to apprehend the suspect by himself? It's Brandon/Rankin, no shortage of officers/deputies close by to help out.

Let me see if I get this right. He was sentenced to two different five-year prison terms in 2018, from two different sets of charges, by two different courts. In 2022 he was arrested for all of the above, while wearing an ankle monitor.

Wouldn't he have to serve one five-year sentence before serving the other, since they arose from different sets of charges, and the sentences were imposed by two different courts?

Fleeing Felon. Tennessee v. Garner: Under the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, a police officer may use deadly force to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect only if the officer has a good-faith belief that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious physical injury to the officer or others.

https://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/471/1/

But I'm sure you knew that.

Come to Brandon where we’ll lock your ass up!

Things happen quickly in this line of work. It’s “toopid” of you to think the thug was gonna wait til other officers got there before To back up. The career criminal made the verbal threat of having a gun , should the officer say time out ?

8:13. The “Feds” can certainly investigate this if the circumstances warrant. But this particular dog ain’t gonna hunt.

Anonymous said...

Posters on here are the same people who drive by and have a meltdown when they see more than one police car stopping a vehicle. Usually saying “how many do they need?”, “Don’t they have anything else better to do?”. Now they say “why didn’t he wait for backup?”. But the suspect almost made it to freedom in Hinds County, but those Rankin County Rednecks got to him first.

You do realize it went about as badly as possible by the officer acting before back up? The suspect was walking on the side of the interstate, he was much less of a threat walking than he was driving the cop's car with all the weapons inside.

Ankle monitors are another joke. A dear lady friend murdered last September and neighbor wounded by a rapist wearing one, not monitored, retuned to harass her. At least he killed himself.

Thanks for all you do for America Lorenzo-

This is did not happen in the city of Brandon but on the interstate. Brandon can't control criminals who run the interstate causing trouble. This dude is toast. He will be sentenced to the max, you won't see him for a long time. If this was in Hinds County JPD would not have responded to the call

Lots of layers here : First one is this officer needs a bit more training so this should never happen again and since it did happen , re-train ALL of them. Second one is that like it or not the tri-county area is no longer "safe". Especially along the interstates and of course the Rez. I was amazed to see how that area is saturated with pants on the ground and meth necks.

"Wouldn't he have to serve one five-year sentence before serving the other, since they arose from different sets of charges, and the sentences were imposed by two different courts? "

Even if the two 5 year sentences handed down in 2018 were to be served concurrently, five years doesn't end until 2023. So why is he out at all?

yet again, multiple posts about the amount of the bail bond. a number is the only thing you rednecks can understand. kinda like the low price guarantee at Walmart-mart.

9;43 gets it right.the reservoir area is loaded with methhead rednecks all riding around in their 3/4 ton , 80,000$ pickups trying to run pedestrians and cyclists off the road in order to show what badasses they are.
the reservoir area is nothing but a rerun of the dukes of hazard.

The Rez and Spillway are a major supplier of Proteins for Jackson and northern Madison County as well as some of the Asian restaurants.

Nothing in the Black Book bag? Always say something in your report that makes you believe their is a weapon or harm to oneself so you can draw your weapon and shoot. And cover YOA

Anonymous said...

@8:13 - you didn’t read the article you are commenting on. “ and another into the rear of the police car as the suspect drove away.”

@8:54 - hence why the officer is supposed to claim he feared for his life and thought the fleeing felon was trying to hit him with the car.

Wait. Meth heads have $80,000 vehicles? Where can I get some of this meth, so I can get a Maserati?

Anonymous said...

to 6;25....its called credit..........maybe you have heard of it.

Anonymous said...

10:17 : Generally meth heads (users) aren't riding around in NEW trucks hoss. Dealers perhaps. They don't have a credit score and get their stuff from theft and rent-a-center. Much like their thug counterparts.

Anonymous said...

to 10;43...you dont know much about the punk methheads do you. their momma and daddies buy those trucks for them.
speaking of mommas, maybe you should go home to yours.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
