Another Capitol Street Shootout

Correction: The shootout took place between the Daiquiri Bar and Mill Street.  Witnesses told JJ the shootout occurred outside of the Daiquiri Bar.  However, law enforcement said it was halfway down the block to Mill Street.  A witness said the target left the bar but law enforcement think he left the King Edward Hotel.   Law enforcement reports there were no injuries.

Original post: A shootout took place at where else but outside of the Daquiri Bar on Capitol Street a few minutes ago.

Witnesses say over 100 rounds were fired. One witness said he saw AR-15 style and AK-47 style firearms at the scene. The shooting was targeted. Witnesses said two men waited outside the club and opened fire when a gentleman left the establishment.

The vehicle below is the shooter's car.

Pretty safe city, right Antar?

You wasted no time posting this lie. Clearly that was across the street at the light almost to Mill St. I like how you played the camera angles though

Hey Ted Orkin, you slumlord, violence-condoning property owner, is it time now to shut this club down? Or are you waiting for someone to actually die.

How much longer is Tyree’s election honeymoon? We’re about to break a record here.

Anonymous said...

Where is capital police? Aren’t they supposed to be the lead with this new cheese from tater tot?

Anonymous said...

Not ONE Capitol Police officer showed up. Not one!!! So much for that bullshit press conference last week over at statehouse about cracking down on crime.

Anonymous said...

Did the Gent exiting the Venue successfully dodge 100 rounds?

Anonymous said...

11:59. That is BS. This happened at the club. That place is bad news.

Anonymous said...

The daiquiri bar is a great establishment, it is people like you who try to dress a story up to get a successful business shut down. You all just don’t want to see black people be GREAT! That shooting took place up the street away from the bar! You were there so you should know that. You wasted no time posting this story, but were you trying to get to safety? No, because you were across the street, where you saw the shooting take place farther away.

@1213 - dumbest, but likes to throw shade.

#1 - that new money doesn't become available until July 1 - which is two months away. And then they have the ability to start hiring new LEO'S, they can't justvfo out to the orchard and pick them off trees.

This is, and will remain, the primary responsibility of the CITY OF JACKSON, under the non-leadership of Mayor Gumflapper Lumumba.

You can try to give hizzonet, your boss, cover by pointing fingers elsewhere, but "Our City Is Safe" Lymumba is the one you should be asking, not anyone with the state.

This is still City government after all. Until hopefully some court will declare it defunct - then you can ask the Governor.

Tate will be along shortly to add his obligatory, "don't blame the AR-15."

Anonymous said...

It is very sad that instead of fact checking you would rather create a false narrative. You’re “story” or “coverage” of this incident effects a business and the livelihood of its employees. This incident did NOT occur inside or outside of The Daiquiri Bar. I do hope that no one was harmed once this occurred. Praying for the City of Jackson!

@11:59, 12:56, 1:47 - Hmmm, corner of Mill and Capitol - one very small block away from the Daiquiri Bar in front of the King Edward. Are you seriously trying to say this shooting stemmed from the King Edward/Hilton? C’mon, you know better.

Anonymous said...

As far as Capitol Police they do not have the man power to patrol the Capital District. They just have enough officers to handle the State buildings they patrol.I'm assuming they're waiting to hire a new Chief before they do any hiring. You can call it an excuse if you want, but Tate Reeves and his committee didn't think this plan out before they launched Capitol Police to start handling calls.

Get that place shutdown today!!!!

Anonymous said...

Typically, Kingfish by now would have jumped in and called people liars by now?

What time of day did this dust-up occur. I notice the byline says 'just now' or something like that.

Anonymous said...

I doubt that “ a gentleman” left that bar!!

Anonymous said...

@1:47 did the person that was shot not just leave the bar?

Anonymous said...

This is not breaking news this is inside the back page news. This is normal activity. This is expected behavior. We take bets on the body count Friday afternoons and settle up Monday morning.

More Perceptions of Violence, right? said...

Hey Kamikaze!! What is your excuse now???? Is this more oppression by us oppressors???

Anonymous said...

Ted Orkin of Madison County owns that building and leases it to the Daquiri Bar. Orkin's greed and selfishness is driving away from Downtown a block of businesses including the King Edward Hotel and the Mayflower Cafe up the street. One petty little man who has no interest in the well-being of the capital of Mississippi holds us all hostage to make a few bucks. Ted Orkin. Ted Orkin. Ted Orkin.

Anonymous said...

Reckon how long it takes Hilton to pull its name off the King Edward and get the hell out of Jackson?? Will they hang on thru the end of the year??

Anonymous said...

What's sad is that more comments are fighting over where this took place, and which police agency should respond.

Though valid points, we really are all so desensitized that the actual violence is just accepted as the norm.

Good luck in these Hinds Co Hunger Games.

Anonymous said...

@1:47
Your comments are about as scrambled as our awful mayors thinking. What a real moron you are. Yes it’s a result of the business. I do live downtown in a condo and I am a professional white male so maybe that makes me a criminal alone. However no one wants this place downtown to remain open it’s a public nuisance.

Anonymous said...

This happened just past 11pm AT the Daiquiri Bar. If its a “great establishment” why are people there with Dracos and ARs? This bar has been nothing but a problem for downtown residents and businesses. Cars parking everywhere, fights, people partying in the parking lot all night, and now a shootout AT this “great establishment”. As usual, the DB management will post comments here saying that the criticism is because it’s black owned. There are many “black owned” businesses downtown that aren’t a threat to the downtown residents. Ted Orkin or the city needs to shut this place down immediately.

Anonymous said...

Interpersonal.

That's all it is. Just ask Chok...he'll tell you.

Anonymous said...

Call the Orkin man, he'll drive those pests away

Anonymous said...

It's only the perception of 100 rounds, right? Nothing good happens after midnight in Jackistan, or before midnight.

Anonymous said...

8:06. Every time I see Ted Orkin at River Hills I want to vomit.

Anonymous said...

Please explain how the owner of the building is responsible for this shooting.

Anonymous said...

@12:56
You're allegations that people want you shut down because you're Black-owned is bullshit. If that's the case, why aren't Downtown residents complaining about 4th Ave Lounge and Lavish Lounge and Names&Faces bar. All are Black-owned with predominantly Black customer bases all in the heart of Downtown. No, people are complaining about your Daquiri Bar because it's just plain bad and attracts criminals.

Anonymous said...

They'll leave when business dries up. Which at the current rate with their new neighbor should be a year give or take.

Anonymous said...

I can speak first hand about the businesses downtown. I have worked here, in a building full (or used to be full) of businesses, for the past 15 years. Not one of them isn't actively leaving or trying to. Many are negotiating buying out their leases.

Regardless of where you want to argue this happened, when it happened or who responded to it, the fact is that it is happening and people are leaving.

I hope Jackson figures out a way to save itself, but me and many like me are going to have no part of it. My life isn't worth that.

Targeted assassinations...this is like something in Medellin, Columbia...yet it occurred less than a half of a mile from the Governor's Mansion.

Anonymous said...

Gotta love Organized Crime and Chaos.

Anonymous said...

Where is ABC enforcement?!?

Anonymous said...

@8:58 AM, and less than a block from the federal building. Granted, that building is closed at night and on the weekends, but still. Nothing will change or get better until a state or federal takeover of Jackson happens. That's the ONLY way Detroit was able to be turned around.

Anonymous said...

Pretty ladies love daiquiris. This place attracts pretty ladies. Guys looking for pretty ladies show up too. Now, only the top percent of guys can get the attention of these pretty ladies. The bottom feeders get pissed off and bring their guns which make them feel like big men instead of ugly manlets. Most women aren’t impressed by those impish trolls with guns. The imps want to scare off the tall handsome fellows who attract the pretty females, so violence ensues.

Anonymous said...

This clearly didn’t happen at daiquiri bar stop with the slander

Anonymous said...

Did they have enough cameras? You know, cameras prevent crime.

Anonymous said...

Lol, safe as heaven.

Anonymous said...

9:48 you are on target, just hope the pretty ladies go to another City and County where the young men know how to act, dress and come to have a good time!

These young fools that are causing problems have no clue, they want a father figure like older wiser jailer or corrections officer! They real need a real older wiser big mama and paw paw.

The most prosperous business in Jackson will be the Funeral Home!

With all the technology and cameras, why are these fools still walking the streets and shooting weekly?

Anonymous said...

Baby Chowke's Real Time Crime Center will soon put a stop to this perceived violence, right?

Anonymous said...

@9:50. This clearly did happen at the Daiquiri Bar. This club is a danger to the downtown residents and needs to be shut down immediately.

Here's the saddest thing about Medellin, Colombia:
Since the improvement of the country in 2014, the homicide rate is 20-28 people per 100,000 residents.

What is Jackson's? At least 5 times that amount?

Anonymous said...

9:57 AM
Cameras don't prevent crime. They may deter some types of crime, but they really allow you to identify and subsequently catch the perp.

Anonymous said...

If only the legislature would fund a decent crime lab and fund cameras. We might have some deterrence. But, I suppose the risk of catching legislators with girlfriends or stumbling drunk is too great.

Anonymous said...

Everyone knows the solution is to give the city of jackson more money to deal with these situations.

Unknown said...

Cameras allow you to identify and subsequently catch the perp IF you have officers and detectives who are actively doing this. Jackson does not.

The infrastructure of city is dilapidated. City workers are apathetic at pest.

I fly out of/return to the Jackson Airport weekly, and I can honestly it is an embarrassment to this state (especially the surrounding cities). India had better/nicer airports, honestly- I am not talking about just in New Delphi or Mumbai. The unmanned parking terminals to exit never accept payment. People have smashed the front of them with their fists in frustration. The walls are scuffed and dirty. No real meal options on either terminal. The down escalator was disassembled and not working for 4 or 5 months. The actual JAN staff are apathetic.

Time to shut down the King Edward. It’s a nuisance to the community of fine cocktail sipping gentlemen.

Kingfish said...

Capitol Police is not ready. It was under DFA until last summer. It was transferred to DPS for a reason. Let's be honest. In the past, they were little more than glorified mall cops. They worked the metal detectors and patrolled the Capitol. They made 5-10 dozen arrests a year and that was it. The Chief was from a small town, didn't understand urban policing, and was riding it out to retirement. The duty, standards, and training were not the same as regular law enforcement agencies.

Now things have changed but it will probably take a year to get CP up to speed. It's now a part of a law enforcement agency. The Commissioner interviewed candidates for a new chief three weeks ago. The mission and structure is changing. The legislature funded 37 new pins although the request was for 75. CP didn't even have investigators. In some ways, it would be better off if CP was starting from scratch as Gluckstadt instead of transforming the agency.

"Time to shut down the King Edward. It’s a nuisance to the community of fine cocktail sipping gentlemen."

Nah, Baby Chok just needs to get the Legislature to throw some dolla's his way and buy it for the "community". Change the name to the King Edwin Jr. . The Republik of New Afrika gonna need an Assembly Hall anyway in the NEAR future to keep running Kush.

@2:30 PM, agree, JAN is a total dump.

Anonymous said...

@2:30 Also agree. I travel often with work. JAN is the worst airport kept airport i’ve flown in or out of.

Anonymous said...

Your correction is inaccurate. Why JPD is saying it didn't happen at the club is really poor police work. Had the club not been open, no shooting would have occurred. Why is it so difficult to understand that the Daquiri Bar is the catalyst for violence on Downtown's west end, and property owner Ted Orkin is an accomplice.

Anonymous said...

The Orkin building has had many different clubs in it for years and none were ever a problem. The Daiquiri club is going to ruin everything for the revitalization of Downtown.

@6:43 or Ole Tater Tot will bring in a friend who has absolutely no knowledge of the crime ridden land that is Jackson and no experience other than a small town policing to run the department. probably someone from the coast or Oxford with political ties and no real experience in cleaning up crime. Progress will be less than noticeable in deterring or slowing crime. The Capitol Police and DPS don’t have a jail so they can’t do much more than the JPD catch and release program. Capitol will get some new toys but don’t expect much more than that.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
