Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens issued the following statement.
On May 12, 2022, after a four-day trial, Hinds County District Attorney Jody E. Owens, II, announces a guilty verdict has been returned in the matter of Cause No. 19-0-642, State v. Antoine Carr, before Hinds County Circuit Court Judge Winston L. Kidd.
Carr is charged with the First-Degree Murder of Lonnie Taylor. On April 19, 2018, officers responded to 2332 Montibello Street in reference to a shooting where officers found Taylor inside of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head.
Judge Kidd sentenced Carr to life imprisonment to serve in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
District Attorney Jody Owens says, “I am thankful the jury saw the truth and delivered justice to the Taylor family. I hope today was a step towards healing for the family from such a violent and senseless crime.”

gotta hand it to the DA. his strategy of going after violent criminals at the expense of giving up on lower level crimes would work if the hinds county courts would behave just like in this trial. we don’t have enough resources to prosecute every criminal but can squash the ones who are prone to violence.
And, it only took 4 years to put this case together and convict him. We need more Judge Roy Beans around who as he stated, “We are going to give him a fair trial then hang him.”
4 years with slam dunk evidence from the jump. Great job ?
Four years to go to trial? That is RIDICULOUS
So....how long is "life imprisonment" these days?
In reality there is no such thing as "life in prison." There is only "old sparky," firing squad, or the needle.
'Lil Lonnie'...I'm suddenly transported back to the days when it was day after day...'Little Kingston'.
I reckon the correspondent's subliminal plea for emotional reaction serves a purpose. Can we now gather at the river?
