Ag Commish Andrew Gipson issued the following statement.
Commissioner
of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson and the Department of
Agriculture
and Commerce will host a Rebuilding the Walls of Safety crime summit in
the Mississippi Trade Mart at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds on
Wednesday, June 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Members
of the community, law enforcement, churches, businesses, community
organizations, legislative officials, representatives of the judicial
system and all those
interested in fighting crime in Jackson are invited to attend. Those
attending will have the opportunity to hear from statewide officials,
county and city officials, and members of state and local law
enforcement including representatives from the Hinds County
Sheriff’s Office and the Jackson Police Department. In addition,
Commissioner Gipson will give an update regarding plans to soon
establish a multi-agency Crime Command Center in the historic
Mississippi Guard Armory located on the Fairgrounds near the State
Capitol and downtown office buildings.
The
crime summit will begin with a general session followed by breakout
sessions where participants will have the opportunity to discuss and
share solutions for
curbing crime in the capital city.
“We
look forward to hosting the Rebuilding the Walls of Safety crime
summit. This will provide an opportunity to bring together community
members, leaders and law
enforcement to discuss various ideas and ways we can all work together
to deter crime in the capital city and bring criminals to justice, and
in doing so, to restore peace and safety in this area of the state,”
said Commissioner Gipson.
The event is free to the public. Registration is required. Participants can register online at

Really Walls of Safety? Has Andy Gipson visited Johannesburg recently?
Perhaps next he will recommend “separate but equal” solutions to the crime problems.
So the first idea is spending money on a shiney new command center? Whats wrong with the Sherriffs command trailer or MHPs command truck that are parked there at every event anyway? Begging for money for his agency. This is not a fair grounds problem it is a Jackson Crime problem. The only thing that will fix that is stop electing corrupt crime friendly Judges in Hinds county. Want to fix the fair grounds? Then move it to madison or rankin county.
1:58 for the win!
I wonder how much cowboy Andy gets from drink and food sales at the summit ?
What a pandering fool .....
Chokwe will be protesting it outside. After he eats his lunch at char or Manship. What a joke of a man.
i guess them soybeans, corn and cotton get a little boring after a while so andy wants to become a white savior of another race.
maybe hollywood can come here and produce one of them white savior movies and andy can star in it.
kinda like kevin costner in dances with wolves...
or peter o'toole in lawrence of arabia...
they can call the movie andy of the hood....
a white man who saves a non white race........
So another meeting (summit) to have great catering, speak a little, and find out what new government giveaways are out there for farmers then go home feeling proud.
Yall have no idea how impressive a brand spanking new Command Center would be.
Load it up with screens and lots of loud alarms that give all the visiting media plenty to see and talk about.
All that TANF money is needing to be spent somewhere different now. Could be a win win!
Lawrence of Arabia was legit. Mississippi Burning would've been a better example.
It's brilliant. Mississippi politics at it's best. He should get an ax handle and carry it with him everywhere he goes. He already has the hat
and the boots. Can you say Senator Gipson?
My artsy genes will appreciate a refurbished, usable Naval-Armory building at the Fairgrounds. Enduring architectural masterpieces, like the Old Firestation and Old Capitol, establish historical sense of place which can give Jackson significant Character.
Jackson should have a "Fund" Run and hit up other sources, like Downtown Partners, to enable the preservation of that Building.
The problem is the judges. Focus on how to get them to do more than let the violators out.
it’s something. at least he’s trying something.
of course the real answer is for the state to take over jackson. gipson would do it if he were governor. unlike our do nothing, talk to national media all the time and good for nothing else current one
Given that he is the AG Commissioner and has a cowboy hat, he should supplement the Capitol Police with horse mounted officers, similar to those in DC. And I'm serious!
Is it me or does it seem that Andy is overstepping his boundaries a bit. Last time I checked the Ag Commissioner should be checking soybean and corn prices. But good ole Gipson think’s he’s staring in the latest version of Walking Tall. Perhaps his anti marijuana crusade has ran its course. At any rate mind your business Gipson. Either that or maybe you could tell the mayor of Jackson that Your Taking Over. I can see it now.
Why not? Nothing but good could come out of it. At least Gipson is making an effort to bring folks together to work on solutions.
Big wanker Allen is having a near stroke about this in Twitworld.
I am so sick of his Look at Me I’m Andy G. BS. He caused the loss of life at the Bug Festival because he was lax on security. No hie reactionary smoke screen is little more than trying to pay less when he is sued for loss of life at his event. He would do better trying to secure formula, goat milk, or something for the babies of this state that need formula or alternate food source. This is another event to hear himself speak! Take your hat and sit down Bro. Andy
May I remind Everyone that the Armory burnt down, except for the exterior Masonry Walls the last time a renovation was performed. He might have ulterior motives to get rid of the ugly damn thing. Either give it a facelift or tear the eyesore down.
This will only be effective if there is a balloon release and candle lighting, right?
Hello 4:14
Thanks for information, I hadn't been to the
Fairgrounds nor seen the Armory for 20 years. You are right, the fire was in 2013.
" May I remind Everyone that the Armory burnt down".

Well 4:14, before you remind the planet of anything ... I would suggest you get your facts correct first.
That historic landmark did indeed experience a major fire almost 20 years ago, but it did NOT "burn down".
Archives & History did a great job of preservation with this historic building after that fire.
So.
I think you will see this "eyesore" for quite a few more years.
The crime summit should have notable expert speakers like Brett Favre, Nancy New, and Governor Feel
"Mississippi Burning would've been a better example."

Um, fellars, actually the last major fire at the Old Armory building was as I recall about 9 years ago. 2013. About July 2, 2013. Just happened to be the day after Daddy Chowke was officially inaugurated.
Might be a connection there 730 since that bldg is where guard assembled when called downtown to do civil unrest of civil rights stuff of 60s
Cowboy hat guy is a complete loon. He acts like he’s the Executive Director for Department of Public Safety. I’m sure commissioner Tindell fully supports this yahoo and his law enforcement endeavors. Gibson is an embarrassment to our state!
He’s a boob!
Well, at least we now know The Hat isn't legit. He's just another pandering political idiot trying to fatten his own wallet. The command center should be inside the Big House.
to the KINGFISH at 2:56............sure lawrence of arabia was legit, but do honestly think any of your green teeth , redneck readers could tell you who t. e. lawrence was?
Is there some way Comissioner Andy they get Stacey Picering on board with this Command Center?
His gravy train done tipped over and he needs a job!
Shouldn't he hold an Agriculture and Commerce summit, instead?
The contact list from those attending this confab will be a big help for someone's next election campaign! Self selecting for either gullibles, influence peddlers, or BOTH!
I am assuming that the "Green Teeth" guy is attempting an insult intended to suggest that blog readers don't have good dental hygiene?
How is that conclusion reached?
Such an oddly specific and ineffective repetitive slur.

Andy gonna pen his own The Seven Pillars of Wisdom?
@ May 26, 2022 at 11:10 AM
Reference: "Uneasy Rider" by the Charlie Daniels Band; circa 1973.
I nominate "The Blind Side" in the category of Best White Savior Picture.
Will the "blue ribbon commission" convene before or after this summit? Will cowboy hats be optional?
Andy is the only official addressing these feral Jackson thugs.
Perhaps they will now leave the State Fairgrounds and return to
"The Fondren" or "historic Belhaven".
At least Commissioner Gipson admits there is a problem unlike some of Jackson Leaders! The problem is not these fools killing each other. The problem is the Judges not giving real life sentences!
Start throwing these fools away for 20plus years so when they get out we will all be gone! Where I don’t know but just gone!
Andy had 12 people show up for his prayer meeting at the trade mart regarding the Mudbug killing.
Two of the people were named Tate and Elee.
Plus Andy.
And a few from his church in Braxton. Add a couple of camera men.
Andy needs to stay in his lane.
Hi Ho Silver, Away!
