What the hell, another non-death penalty for a convicted murderer! And we taxpayers have to shell out 30-50K a year for the rest of his worthless life.

The “we taxpayers” argument is beyond tired. Taxpayers pay taxes regardless of whomever serves whatever sentence. You’re upset when criminals go free. You’re upset when criminals are given life sentences. Blah, blah, blah.

The death penalty is all but dead(no pun intended) in the United States.

The current DA is not going to seek a death sentence in a death-eligible case, period. The last time a Hinds County jury imposed the death penalty was under Schuler-Smith's tenure, a case involving the abduction and murder of an older woman who the perp had befriended in a casino. That was a white-on-white capital murder, though. Besides that, the defendant's antic during trial no doubt removed any sympathy the jury might have had for him. HInds County juries are hardly likely to sentence black perps to death. But it may be just as well since the anti-death penalty cause lawyers who take these death sentence cases end up costing the counties a very large amount of money. Counties in this State are responsible for the costs of criminal prosecution in their counties, including the cost of the defense of indigent defendants. And they bear that cost beyond trial, to appeal and into the ether of State and federal post-conviction actions. Many counties in this State cannot afford this, which is a thing the DAs know. So in very many cases where the death penalty is available, the DA will prosecute it without seeking the death penalty as the sentence.

Is he kin to Archie, the Jacked Town politician?

I agree completely, although I disagree with the 30-50 k/year figure. The figure for federal incarceration is in the low 30's. MDOC is substantially less. Besides, it's common knowledge that it's cheaper to house them for life than pay for interminable capital appeals, and habeas litigation that goes on for decades. Hey, lawyers don't come cheap.

On the other hand, if you really like the idea of killing 'em all and letting God sort them out, I believe the new administration in Afghanistan might be to your liking. AND there are lots of seats available on flights into that country (although none for folks wishing to leave).

Bon voyage!

Family name rings a bell.

9:56. At least he’s going to be in a jail cell and not eating wings at the M
Bar.

Wait didn’t this murder happen years ago!? Not that it would surprise me it took this long. But still.

@9:56 PM - It is cheaper to incarcerate the POS for life than to fund the endless appeals from the death penalty. We have to feed them for decades anyway during their appeals so just put them in jail forever. And make "life in prison" exactly that - they should spend the rest of their lives in prison and die there.

@9:56pm Yep. And that's why America is in the toilet. Americans don't like killing like the rest of the world does with ease - and they think there's a never ending pot of money to "house" everyone because they don't have the backbone to do what is necessary to deter such behavior. Oh, did I say Americans by and large stopped disciplining children decades ago? - so there's that.

11 PM, Hinds? All that wind. Hinds?

@11:00 This was a Madison County case.

Only 100 yards away from catch and release

David Archie is his uncle, it is not coincidence!!

This was Archie's third trial and Party City is located in Madison County so this was not a Hinds County case. And if all the Archies are related, this means he is related to the idiot who left her kid in an unlocked running vehicle after midnight in the I-55 Kroger parking lot. Not the savviest bunch in town.

Congratulations to the Madison DA office for securing this conviction. Job well done!

Yes. He is the nephew of David Archie, Hinds county supervisor. David Archie is also related to the young woman whose son was abducted after he was left in the car at Kroger. I believe she is a niece.

These fools watch too much TV and listen too much violent shigity. The reality of this is they glamorize this violent lifestyle. As a former corrections officer I’ve cried privately while leaving my post after being with these amimals all day, it’s really sad!! You just can’t make a believer out of these young men. It’s so sad that they throw their lives away for a shithole!

I don’t want to look at a mans ass all day, smell shit and eat slop. Wake up young men, this ain’t a road you want to go down.

@5:28AM

Kingfish, I know that’s you!

at 5:28 on a Saturday morning? Yeah, right. I would've flat out said it. He is David L. Archie's nephew

@11:04, yes he is the nephew of David Archie.

Ain't KF said...

@11:23 - I am the poster at 5:28. I wasn't sure of the family connection but it did ring a bell, I thought. I couldn't say he was a nephew since I don't follow these families like KF does.

Wasn't there another Archie 'detained' for some sort of crime on County line road while driving....maybe six years ago? That bell is ringing too.

The Archie family seems to be always involved in any Jackson-Hinds drama.

Seems that family are experts at a "thug/victim mentality".

Strange that David Archie talks about wanting justice served and yet after Joshua Archie murdered Bobby Adam’s in 2012 where was the justice for Mr. Adam’s? Perhaps JOSHUA did not see the role model in David he needed growing up; however he was old enough to decide to take an innocent mans life. Thankful he is behind bars now!

Fascinating looking at all the comments on social media from a few yrs ago

We insult God not having a workable capitol death policy. Enough open and shut cases of premediated murder to train up on the job a top notch hangman.

The Archies would seem to be a loud, obnoxious, roving disaster area.

Nope! Alive and well in some states.

Capital murder suspect Joshua Archie released on bond

[Hinds County District 2 Supervisor] David Archie, Joshua’s uncle, is asking the Madison County District Attorney to drop all charges.

In a statement released by the Archie family, they say, “We would like to send our regards to Mr. Adam’s family... For an innocent man, six years of jail and two hung juries is enough. We are thankful for all prayers and any form of support received.”

Glad justice has been served. Praying for the victim's family!

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
