The Mississippi State Department of Health issued the following statement.
The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) has identified several cases of E. coli 0157 infection associated with use of the swimming pool and/or splashpad at the Jellystone Park Camp Resort-Yogi on the Lake in Pelahatchie, Miss.
The cases identified so far have exposure dates on the weekend of July 30th through August 1st, but additional exposures may have occurred through August 9, 2021. The pool and splashpad were closed on August 9, 2021.
This is an evolving situation and MSDH is conducting an ongoing investigation to identify any additional cases. The management of the Jellystone Park Camp Resort-Yogi on the Lake are cooperating with the investigation and response.
E. coli 0157 infection can be a serious illness, especially in very young children and the elderly, and is associated with severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting and fever. Some individuals develop a severe and potentially life-threatening condition called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). HUS occurs about a week after symptoms first appear, as they are improving. It can lead to kidney failure in some cases. Early symptoms of HUS can be associated with decreased urination and fatigue.
Symptoms of E. coli infection usually develop three to four days after exposure, with a range between one and 10 days. Outbreaks with recreational waters such as pools and splashpads can occur when waters become contaminated by an infected person through diarrhea or fecal contamination, and other swimmers then swallow the water, becoming exposed and infected. Person to person transmission can also occur.
Individuals who were swimming in the pool or splashpad at Yogi on the Lake in Pelahatchie between July 30 and August 9 should monitor for symptoms of stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting and fever. Consult a healthcare provider immediately if you do have symptoms and tell your provider about your exposure.
Whether in the pool, the hot tub/spa, or water playground we can all help protect ourselves and our loved ones from germs by following these simple but effective steps:
- Don’t swim or let children swim when sick with diarrhea.
- Don’t swallow the water.
- Take kids on bathroom breaks every hour.
- Check diapers and change them in a bathroom or diaper-changing area – not poolside – to keep germs away from the pool.
- Shower before you get in the water. Rinsing off in the shower for just one minute helps get rid of any germs that might be on your body.

E. coli outbreak at Jellystone Park? Let the Stokes "raw boo boo" comments begin!
Betcha its the lake. its gotten dangerous to swim in them. new little buggers in them. not the ponds of our yoot.
I bet it was turbid
Dumb ass parents that insist on putting their diaper babies in pools knowing there is a high likelihood that the little tike is going to shit his/her pants. It's not just the public pools, you see it at country clubs, etc.
That pond has been a silted in cesspool for years. How Jellystone is able to book those sheds they call cabins for the amount of money they do is beyond me.
i used to take my kid there. that lake was disgusting. and people swam in it when there was a perfectly nice pool right there..
Hey, Boo Boo!!!
Public swimming facilities are public urinals.
These will be counted as Covid infections and deaths
@11:04am - We have a winner!
We were camping at Jellystone this weekend and were in the pool when they told everyone to get out. I spoke with the management. I was told it happened July 30- August 1. It was a family of 19 staying in the cabins. 4 people from this family apparently got ecoli. NO one else has reported being sick. We were told they test their water 3 times a day as well as using an independent lab for testing. All test have been clear. The MSDH did NOT even come out to check. I was told they ask if they were coming and were told they don’t come out. Jellystone did drain the pool and splash pad out of precaution yesterday. They intend to scrub everything and refill. I feel management handled the situation. Unless more people come forward with ecoli that was staying during those dates, I would hardly call this an outbreak!
9:42 -- you are soooo right about country clubs. I was a manager at one of the area's country clubs several years back and there was a baby wading pool. A lifeguard called and asked me to come to talk to a mama who --- with drink in hand -- was raising hell about -- and these are her words -- "a turd in the pool." She admitted her kid had pooped his pants and she rinsed it out in the pool..."but somebody needs to clean it up." I knew my tenure running a country club was coming to an end.
There's a "resort" in Pelahatchie ?
I learn something every day.
(And to think Ive been wasting thousands of dollars in Orlando,Florida).
12:45 is incorrect. We camped that weekend with our grandsons and our 4 year old got very sick.
5:56 I was simply stating what management told us while we were staying there this weekend. We were not their during the weekend of July 30-Aug 1, so I’m just keeping my fingers crossed we do not get it! Hope your grandson recovered quickly.
ive never seen this lake. but i do know this. those stinking canada geese carry e-coli. is there a significant population on those geese on this lake????\
Sounds like a Jackson water source.
Do NOT stop swimming.
Governor orders you to drink the water NOW.
The dokturs are liars!
Your body your choice!!!!
Drink the ass water - own the libtards!!!!!
My grandson was there during the time off the contamination and he got very sick as well. It WAS an outbreak.
@10:33 sounds like you’ve been pwn’d hard over and over and now you are broken.
Over 1 billion Covid-19 survivors before there was an experimental mRNA therapy.
And the inventor if mRNA therapy says this one is awful, poorly engineered and poorly tested, leaks spike proteins when it shouldn’t, and we shouldn’t take it.
"Public swimming facilities are public urinals." Just like the many private facilities.
9:20 am
You tell them!
There were millions of people alive before smallpox and millions after. Vaccines were immaterial!
Polio is kinda hot on a leggy woman….damn vaccines took that away!
Mumps? Hawt! Measles? Succulent! Rubella? Why yes please!
Covid 19? It’s incredible when people suffer and get intubated when they don’t need to be…..it’s just good exercise is all.
Own those libtards!!!!!
There now has been a lawsuit filed against Yogi on the Lake.
