Fedex Driver Murdered

 JPD issued the following statement.

Jackson Police are investigating a shooting that occurred around 10:30pm in the 2800 block of Booker T Washington

Robert Williams was shot while sitting inside of his truck and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Diontae Lewis was also shot once in the arm. His condition is unknown.

Whiteness indicated that a white vehicle pulled up and fired shots into the truck occupied by Williams and Lewis. No suspect information or motive is available at this time.

Kingfish note: #91.  The word on the street is Lewis was the target.  He was in an adjacent vehicle.  A bullet hit Williams in the back and exited through his neck.   Wrong place at the wrong time.

If FedEx stops delivering to dangerous neighborhoods, the race hustlers will cry racism. FedEx employees hundreds of African Americans in the Metro. The FedEx jobs are good paying jobs too. But they did choose to locate their hub in Pearl for a reason.

He delivered in Madison and he was extremely nice and a gentleman.

That is just awful. Grand Theft Auto 5 real life every day on the West side of I-55

Jackson is a scary town to be in. Crazy high murder count and only mid-August. Has to be a Top 10 year on record already?!

Anonymous said...

Was he in his FedEx truck when shot?

@3:59 PM

I agree with everything but you last sentence. The reason they located their hub in Pearl is proximity to the airport.

FedEx does not fly here. Their hub is in Memphis, so they drives all packages to Jackson metro.

Random shootings are rare. I’m guessing they knew each other or had a “transaction” that went bad

Delivering at 10:30 pm….?

That is how JPD spelled it. If Sam Brown quits acting like a spoiled brat, I will correct his errors when he makes them.

It’s grand theft auto 5 in ALL of Jackson. Not just west of I55. The creep has infiltrated and ruined the remaining “good” pert of town. Jackson residents are no longer safe anywhere in the city. Sad.

I know I’ve seen a FedEx plane or two at Jackson International. Anybody in any sort of distribution will be out there also.

Try again.

The city of Jackson owns hundreds of acres around the airport that FedEx could've used for their monster hub. My bet is they wanted nothing to do with the clown mayor, the morally bankrupt City Council of Jackson, and the corrupt Jackson Municipal Airport Authority.

Sad all the way. FEDEX driver may have just hollered hello and wrong place wrong time! I will not believe he was doing a drug deal as they are tested and would not be employed. Quit making working men the BAD GUY! RIP sweet man and thank you for your service!

6:59 is exactly right, and that is the reason all of that land is still undeveloped woods. That will only change if and when the state gains control.

He wasn't on deliveries in Jackson. His route is Madison. He was well liked here. Good guy. RIP.

The wlbt write up makes it sound like the two men were in the same vehicle that was being shot at so I wouldn’t think it was a company vehicle. Very sad situation either way, and hopefully JPD can bring the murderers in quickly.

659, nice try, but FedEx located their hub in Memphis (for the same reasons that you state about JXN) decades ago, long before Jackson elected its current clown mayor, or the past few former corrupt mayors and the incompetent city council.

You can blame lots of stuff on Lumumba, but FedEx being in Memphis rather than Jackson had a lot more to do with centralized location, workforce, airport capacity, etc but not the current leadership (or lack thereof) of Jackson.

And yes, FedEx does fly into Jackson; they also deliver some by truck from Memphis. Its not a simple one or the other. And location to JXN (and 49, and the stack) was no doubt a factor in their location decisions.

A human being has lost his life and you’re arguing about FedEx schedules or whatever you’re arguing about. Pure comedy. And then you’ve the nerves to debate the competence of Mayor Lumumba despite 90% of the elected officials in the city being incompetent. Tell me the last time the city had an effective leader?

If the watch the movie then you’ll see the show.

Fred Smith used his $4 million inheritance to buy an aviation company in Arkansas. He named it "Federal Express" because he wanted to be the carrier for the Federal Reserve Board. The Fed said no. Fred then relocated the business to Memphis --center of the country and favorable weather.

He was a regular driver on the Lake Caroline routes. So sad to hear this. Such a nice young man.

Prayers sent out to his family and friends.

Anonymous said...

Apparently he was sitting in his personal truck, as Fedex does not deliver after 8 pm.

Anonymous said...

To anyone saying FedEx does not deliver after 8 pm-
A few months ago I had a FedEx package ‘out for delivery’ in Madison.
When it had not appeared by 9:30 that evening, hope faded.
I checked my doormat again at 10pm and there sat my FedEx delivery. I checked FedEx tracking online, and sure enough, it said ‘delivered at 9:45pm.’
Very sad for the senseless loss of this man, who reportedly was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

some parts of town may not get deliveries after 8:00, while other, safer areas do get deliveries after 8:00.

This guy delivered a lot to Madison. Seemed like a really nice guy. Hate it for his family. And those poor Fed-Ex delivery drivers deliver until they are done. They don't stop at 8:00pm.

Anonymous said...

Absolutely devastating! Such a loss to his family, the community and the world. I don’t know this man but he brought joy to others. How many can say that they do that?

Robert Williams was not in his in delivery vehicle at the time the shooting took place. He was in his personal vehicle. I trained him on his first day back in 2014. We rode together for a month before he got his own route. Not only would he become one of the best FedEx delivery drivers ever, He also became my best friend. We connected on a personal level. He was a loving husband as well as a loving father to his kids, who taught his kids the importance of hard work and honesty. If you didn't have the honor to cross his path like so many have, then you really missed out on meeting one of the worlds realest human beings on this planet. The man had such a positive vibe that no matter what you were going through he made sure you were smiling after he finished talking to you. He had style, class and swag. A free thinker and lived outside the box. Until I see you again Robert Williams the 2nd a.k.a. Pockit!!

A go fund me page has been set up in his honor to help support his family.

The Madison area has one of the highest volumes in the hub. We have problems filling driver positions in that area cause so many drivers cant do 150 plus stops a day. We at Fedex deliver until the job is done. We take pride in customer service and making sure the customers get their packages by any means necessary. I've volunteered a lot to run two routes, Ive also delivered in Madison as well 20 different other areas. There are a lot of different factors while delivering like, running two routes cause a driver called in or quit, weather, traffic, and vehicle break downs that may cause a package to be delivered in the late afternoon and even into the late evening. I hope some of comments clears the air of doubt as of why we deliver so late. thanks

I've done everything as far as driving goes at Fedex, from door to door delivery to line haul which is pulling doubles. We don't pick up from the airport. We pull doubles back and forth from the hub in Olive Branch, MS. Fedex air is what you see at the airport. There are several different branches of FedEx. Like, Fedex Ground, Fedex Air, Fedex Freight, Fedex Office, Fedex Custom Critical, and Fedex Express.

Why was this (nice) guy on Booker T Washington street in Jackson at 12:30 P M in his personal vehicle?

Anonymous said...

This HUSBAND AND FATHER that was full of life lives on the next street over. It was 10:30 pm, not 12:30. There are a million reasons of "why" he was on Booker T Washington and none of those reasons are anyone's business but his. But of course some people will always think the worst. AS LONG AS THIS POST IS UP I WILL DEFEND THIS MAN UNTIL I DIE. LIKE HE WOULD FOR ME AND OTHERS. So, before you come on here questioning one of my best friends and what he was doing, HOW COME YOUR NOT ASKING WHY SO MANY PEOPLE ARE BEING SHOT AND KILLED BY YOUNG ADULTS THAT HAVE NO GUIDANCE? HOW CAN WE STOP THE VIOLENCE WHILE REMAINING SILENT? SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING JACKSON, MS!!!

This was an amazing man. I don't think that can be said enough. He was so uplifting to everyone he met. Anyone who didn't know him has no reason to assume a single thing. He worked harder than 99 percent of people every day of his life, while keeping a smile on his face and bringing others up in the meantime. He made this world a much better place. Its so sad to see other people jumping to conclusions. Its heartbreaking. His legacy will live on no matter what though. We need to pull together and stop this nonsense and these valuable lives being lost.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
