MDOT Gets New Leader

The Mississippi Department of Transportation Commissioners appointed Brad White to the Executive Director position. Mr. White is the current Chief of Staff for Governor Tate Reeves.  Governor Reeves lauded the decision on Facebook:

The last 17 months have been the most difficult of my professional career. One storm (literal and otherwise!) after another - 13 federally declared disasters, a prison crisis, inherited State Agency crises, not to mention Covid-19. You get the picture...

The one person that has been there helping us navigate this difficult terrain since literally the day after Election Day is Brad White. My Chief of Staff since Day 1 but my friend long before that.

I couldn’t be more proud of him for this new challenge he has accepted. He has a lot of hard work ahead of him, but if anyone is prepared to meet - and exceed - expectations, I’ll bet on Brad any day.

Congratulations to all three MDOT Commissioners! It’s a new day in our state! And it’s a great day for transportation AND economic development in Mississippi!!  We’ve got our transition plan in place and ready to go - and I will make further announcements at the appropriate time.

Brad has developed into a great leader and manager. We need more like him government. Unlike many in politics, Brad is 100% transparent and tries to always do what’s best.

Yes he’s a friend and yes I’m happy for him. But, I know he’ll bring order and accountability to MDOT.

This is really, really interesting. Not saying yet that it is good or bad, but it is interesting.

All the Tater Tots are jumpin out of that pressure cooker. I predict many more to follow.

Will MDOT now stop purchasing shovels that stand up by themselves?

Speaking of the governor, did anything ever become of the ultimatum that the crazy weed guy posted on Twitter last week, regarding the 1 week deadline for Reeves to call the special session, and which was published on this blog?

What’s this guy done other than get appointed to stuff bu relatives and friends of relatives? Any private industry real life experience?

Of course, same could be said about our bank teller Governor.

He's not a leader. He's a Zero!

Watching from the sidelines, and wish him the best of luck. If this guy is going to transform MDOT, he's going to have to kick a bunch of career dead beats to the curb who spend all day in air conditioned offices watching youtube and checking their PERS balance.

9:59. No, he has not. I’ve known him for 20+ yrs. Nice, smart guy. Head of state Republican party, chief of staff for 3-4 state and federal officials, on the staff/election committees of more. All he has ever had are political jobs. NO real world private sector work experience. If MDOT needs a politician in charge, they got one.

bet he cant solve a differential equation.... been waiting all his life for his next appointment, just like around-town Rounsaville...
F this state

7:06. In principal, you just described the governor....sad but true...birds of a feather....

Two questions:
1) What is his expertise/qualification in road construction, repair and maintenance?
2) Are he and Shad related?

Without naming names, I think it is a fact that there have been previous MDOT Directors who convinced the Transportation Commission that they worked for the Director and not the other way around. MDOT is a huge bureaucracy (it has to be) but it is supposed to respond to the will of the people through the Commission and the Legislature. MDOT needs a Director who understands this and can make the bureaucracy understand this.
That said, I expect Mr. White will either be excellent or horrible. I don't think he will be mediocre in any way.

Typical appointment. Reminds me of Lynn Fitch after she got 'most favored status' from Barbour and he put on the rotating-agency fast-track. Or the bunch of male and female goobs who were put in charge of Employment Security over the past thirty five years (including Fitch for a few months). At least this guy won't fall asleep sitting at a quarter slot-machine.

Worked with him at MDOT years ago. Great guy and congratulations!

Tater put him in this job, Dimwit!

A good ol boy gets a good ol boy appointment, and the state at large just got fitted for a new pair of cement shoes to keep it at the bottom.

Man have the jealous haters come out in force!
Look, elections have consequences.
Some men are destined to be kings while others play the role of king maker.
Kings reward their Kingmakers.
The Governor of the Great State of Mississippi should have direct control of the largest and most well funded agency in the state.
There are ways to make this happen without the help of the legislature.

so we now have a shad white and a brad white?

and a Betty White and Barry White.
I like Ron White best though.

First task I hope is to fix the embarrassment that is the construction length on Hwy 49 south. Those poor businesses ought to be able to sue the state for lost revenues.

Pandemic did not help, nor the funding that dried up. All this comes from Federal funds on highway construction.Just FYI

It’s so reassuring to know so many of the commenters here understand how their government functions. He was not appointed by Tate to anything. The MDOT executive director is hired by the Transportation Committee. In theory, some of you voted to elect its members.

9:07 - Your knowledge and expertise on how these things work are astoundingly lacking. Didn't say Tate appointed him. Said Tate put him in the job. Every commission and committee steps and fetches. Being king has its advantages.

I'm Smarter Than Salter said...

Tate seems to be batting well. Burl sounds like he's come out of the blocks at full speed and has his head screwed on straight. And the new Commissioner (or whatever his job title is) of MHP sounds really effective and I believe him to be a quality leader (manager of people and personalities).

And while we're stuck with Gunn and Dagburt, Watson seems to be doing a good job from my seat looking in the window with limited inside dope. Shad is kicking ass although a lot of you think he's picking low-hanging fruit. Maybe this guy is the right man for the job at the current time. His track record and inside knowledge of systems tells me to give him a chance. Although some of you think the governor did not influence the decision to hire him, I think you're wrong. Regardless, he's not a petty alcoholic who kicked an elected highway commissioner entirely out of the new building.

And thank God and Greyhound Feel Brant, Steve 'the undertaker' Holland and Cecil-The-Frown-Brown are finally out of state government left to suck on the PERS tit for thirty years.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
