Former State Rep Murdered

Was homicide related to recent sister-in-law's death?

The North Mississippi Herald reported former State Representative Ashley Henley was murdered:

The Yalobusha County Sheriff’s Department and state agencies are investigating the death of a Desoto County woman found on Patricia Drive in the Water Valley Boat Landing Community Sunday night. Yalobusha County Coroner Ronnie Stark identified the victim as Ashley Henley, a former state representative. Henley is also the sister-in-law of Kristina Michelle Jones, who was discovered deceased inside a burned trailer at the same location on Patricia Drive on Dec. 26, 2020.

Assistant District Attorney Steve Jubera reported that information gathered at the scene Sunday night indicates that Henley was outside the burned trailer cutting grass when she was murdered.

Sheriff Mark D. Fulco reported deputies were first dispatched to the scene around 10 p.m. Multiple agencies joined the investigation, working at the scene until after 2 a.m.

Henley served in House District 40, which encompasses a portion of Desoto County, from 2016 through 2019.The Herald will provide more details about this investigation as information becomes available.

Kingfish note: Mrs. Henley's husband posted this message on Facebook back in April.

Savagery, plain and simple.

Are we returning to the level of violence of the frontier days?
On the recommendation of Joe Rogan, I just read “Empire of the Summer Moon” which chronicles the rise and decline of the Comanche Empire.

Absolutely brutal. And it convinced me that brutally begets brutality.

The investigation into this has potential to get real weird, real fast.

2:13 agreed!
Obviously someone connected to the former murder and local . Clearly they new the land and who was coming and going to do this act in the daytime.

Tragic !

But what in the HELL is going on in North Mississippi ?

The burning alive of Jessica Chambers a few years ago ... the current bizarre shit going in Quitman County (with White gangs and decapitations of corpses)?

And now this ??????

She had just posted a link to an article about some thugs being arrested (on Facebook). Sounds like somebody didn't appreciate it.

Several good articles out there about her frustration with the county SO and their failure to investigate her sister in laws death. This one could get interesting. Hate it. Her heart was in the right place while serving in the legislature.

I don't think the Jessica Chambers death is unique to north MS. A young girl got involved with a very bad crowd, a terrible situation, but it happens around the world.

The old movie Walking Tall will give you some insight on North Mississippi.

Right, 6:27, even though the movie is not about North Mississippi.

I smell a Dateline episode.

The movie, Walking Tall, isn't about North Mississippi per se, but does involve something that is very Mississippi. It was called the State-Line gang in the movie. You would probably know it better as the Dixie Mafia, which was far from being a Hollywood fictional entity. I have never been a part of this organization, but have personally known people who were. I even had family members that were recruited by them many years ago. No, I haven't had any contacts lately to know first hand what activities they are involved in now. I'm going to assume the commenter that referenced the movie was connecting the Simon City Royals to the State-line gang. I have heard this connection is true, but I have noway of verifying this. Likewise, I will say this, if the Royals are connected to the original Dixie Mafia, you can believe they have powerful allies in several state capitals, reaching all the way to the U.S. Capital. When Bill Clinton was elected to his first term as governor of Arkansas, a lieutenant, in the organization, made the comment that the Dixie Mafia was responsible for Clinton being elected. This comment was made in east Mississippi. The lieutenant was from Arkansas, but was handling matters for the organization in east Mississippi at the time. I would assume that all of those that I would have known, connected to the organization, have gone on. If you knew that someone was connected to the organization in someway, you were careful not to get on the wrong side of that person. As one guy said, you could get seriously killed twisting one of them off.

Might want to ask what, or who, the two victims had in common.

"Might want to ask what, or who, the two victims had in common."

Right now it would be the husband.

But I just have a hard time believing he's that stupid to take them both (the sister and the wife) out for insurance purposes?

I don't see the so-called thugs, she posted an article on her FB timeline wanting to harm her, because she only shared the story, she didn't have anything to do with their arrest.

The only other thing I can think of was someone was just shooting and she caught a bullet?

I just don't get why someone would target her?

Anonymous said...

10:51 - someone was 'just shooting' at the same place where a few months ago her SIL was burned to death in a housefire?

Sounds like you might work for the County SO, trying to find a way to explain these two unconnected, unfortunate events, because none of those other things you readily dismiss could possibly have a bearing on these outliers. (I don't buy your insurance theory, but since it is a possibility it should be investigated, along with ALL the other possibilities --- including I guess your theory of a stray bullet.)

10:51, you are not keeping up. It certainly wasn't for insurance purposes.

There is something "missing". It does not "read" right for just a random murder

Not connected in no way shape or form to the LEO's in Representative Henley's area.

Even if you want to assume the Yalobusha Sherrif's Dept or Water Vallley Police Dept had something to do with her death, what do they gain from killing her?

Because she's complained about them, but what do they gain from her death? She's already outed them on being ineffective in regards to her sister in laws death, so killing her would only draw more attention? I don't think they're that stupid - at least I hope not

Her murder rates up there with Vincent and Margaret Sherry's murder in Biloxi. Unless it was truly an accidental shooting.

The sheriff should be smart enough to know if he doesn't have the people to solve a crime he needs to reach out to MBI. Even if MBI can't solve it then it will take the heat off him and create some transparency which sounds like needs to be done. I'm reading where the DA is doing the talking which is fine but troubling considering what I'm reading. I just hope people don't point fingers without having absolute proof. This needs to be solved and working together will expedite this.

For anyone unfamiliar with the "Dixie Mafia", it's nothing like Don Vito Corleone in the "Godfather movies".
It's not even close to "Goodfellas" or the "Sopranos".

This redneck thug gang never even used that term ... the real Mafia boss in New Orleans (Carlos Marcello) saw how much money they were making ... and included them as "friends of his family" during the 1960s & 70s.
As a result, the Press coined the term "Dixie Mafia" ... not the actual members.

For the press, that term sounded exotic ... therefore would sell more papers.
(At least that's whats been published about all of the above).

Anyway, what happened to Ms.Henley was tragic !
My thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

9:51 AM The Dixie Mafia and their allies the Royals and others are as strong as ever from the TN state line to the Gulf of Mexico. Rural counties are some of the most corrupt places you could ever find.

Interesting comments about the Dixie Mafia. Anywhere I can read more about this organization? What is their source of economic power? Do they organize betting and a specific type of drug to be sold etc etc.? Always curious about how the underworld works.

"Interesting comments about the Dixie Mafia. Anywhere I can read more about this organization?"

Yes. It's called the internet.

Anonymous said...

@6:26, So true. In fact, it happens in 78% of those particular relationships

9:42 AM Here are some of the Wiki articles. In rural areas it best to assume elected officials, law enforcement and anyone else you may encounter supports these groups.

Posted by State Rep. Steve Hopkins on Facebook: "The Yalobusha County sheriffs department is refusing to hand off Ashley Henley’s case to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, why?? Why is Ashley’s body still in Water Valley instead of the crime lab in Jackson??
The National News and the FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation should be swarming yalobusha county."

Anonymous said...

2:57, I can answer why her body is still in Water Valley. The crime lab is a minimum of three weeks behind on autopsies. They are no longer doing them on weekends and are sorely short staffed. I have not read what the legislator is saying but if he is running down the people working this he needs to look in the mirror and get his friends in the legislature to do something about this. Having to wait a month for an autopsy should be criminal in itself.

To all the Monday morning quarterbacks commenting, it's acceptable to state that you do not have all the information and will withhold comment until you do. You have the right to remain silent, but not the ability. The reason the body remained in Water Valley is strictly related to the schedule at the MS Crime lab. Nothing more, nothing less. An across the street neighbor, Billy Brooks, has been arrested for arson in the burning of the house trailer in December. There's more to the story. Can you withhold your meth monkey conspiracy theories for just a while longer? And yes, just because you think everyone is watching you doesn't mean they're not! Keep looking through the blinds when you hear something...they're probably coming for you, or your neighbor! What was that?.....

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
