Correction: The original headline said the biker was killed. JJ apologizes for the error.
The Madison Police Department issued the following statement.
On February 28, 2021, at approximately 3:19 PM, the Madison Police Department received a call of a one-vehicle motorcycle accident northbound on Interstate 55 near the 109 mile-marker. Upon officers and other emergency personnel’s arrival they found a male driver of the motorcycle along with the bike in the center median area of the interstate. Emergency personnel immediately began administering aid to the driver who appeared to be seriously injured.
Through information obtained from witnesses, officers were able to determine that the motorcycle was proceeding northbound on Interstate 55 near mile marker 109 when for an unknown reason the driver lost control at which time the motorcycle crashed on the grassy area of the center median of the interstate.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported to the University of MS Medical Center by Pafford Ambulance Service. The left northbound lane of Interstate 55 was blocked for approximately 1 ½ hours while the accident scene was cleared.
The accident remains under investigation at this time by members of the Madison Police Department Traffic Division.

King - is this 2 bikers being killed in 7 days?
I expect this is one of the fools that passed me on I-55 at 80 mph doing wheelies. You can't fix stupid.
Biker may have hit them pot holes in the middle of I 55. The interstate from Jackson north is in worst shape today than it has been in since it was built.
10:15. This guy was on a motorcycle. The other was a guy on a bicycle that was killed in a hit and run somewhere near, but not on the interstate. I think they’re still looking for the driver of the car.
Wonder if this rider will be one of the ones that use I-55/I-220 as a race track. Hello Ridgeland PD/MHP. Ya'll out there?

This is why they are called donor-cycles.
“Emergency personnel immediately began”—which I’m sure they did but a black female was giving CPR to the person before any official responder arrived. She should receive some credit for stepping up.
All that humidity like we had yesterday makes those roads and striping a little slick.
@10:15
I think this is one cyclist and one biker killed in 7 days, but I could be wrong.
Bicyclist killed last week was Bob Walker.....long time lawyer from yazoo originally. Worked with him for years. Stand up guy. He will be missed.
@9:01 AM. Bob was my long time next door neighbor when we lived in Gulfport. His death really is tragic. A good guy with a good family.
If it has to be someone, please let it be one of the asshole crotch rocket riders that can't seem to go less than 100 mph weaving in and out of traffic up and down I-55.
@9:01- the Wells Marble Bob Walker? Hope not.
@7:40, Lol, sport bike vs even a duty bike ain’t getting pulled over anytime soon
@11:29, Just because you’re afraid of a little speed doesn’t mean everyone is
@2:45 PM. Unfortunately, yes.
CANTON — A Jackson CYCLIST was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Nissan Drive last week.
Robert Walker, 74, was fatally wounded in the accident reported at 6:42 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 on Nissan Drive, according to Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Kervin K. Stewart.
“This crash is being investigated by members of the MHP Crash Team,” Stewart said.
Though no vehicle description is available at this time, Stewart said MHP investigators determined that Walker was struck and killed by a vehicle while he was riding his bicycle on Nissan Drive near Ragsdale Road just outside of Canton.
They determined that the vehicle left the scene traveling south on Nissan Drive.
Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is encouraged to contact MHP and make a report by calling 601-420-6342.

I'm the lady that performed CPR on Mr. Mitchell. Reading some of these comments, some of you are so insensitive. He wasn't speeding nor using the highway as a raceway. He was driving his bike on a Sunday afternoon. So please have some respect. A life was lost and it's sad to hear.
Not everyone that operates a motorcycle drives it in a crazy manner.
This man was my father, a wonderful father and husband who loved everyone he came across.. he even dressed as Santa for much of the Madison/Jackson area!
He was a very safe driver.. rarely drove on I55, it was a beautiful Sunday and he loved to be out and ride his bike when he could!
Thank thank you so much to the lady who performed CPR, we are still piecing things together and are not sure of who to contact or everything going on, if there is a way we can contact you that would be greatly appreciated!
I’m very sorry for your loss, I lost my wonderful father in December and I miss him so. You are in my prayers.
