Senators Split on Election Certification

Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith and Roger Wicker issued the following statements.

Senator Hyde-Smith

Following violence and destruction at the U.S. Capitol that disrupted congressional proceedings, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) issued the following statement regarding her decision to oppose certification of the Electoral College vote of the 2020 presidential election:

“The American democratic process is working despite the unacceptable violence and destruction at the U.S. Capitol today.  The mobs will not stop the Senate from fulfilling its constitutional duty.

“I promised to represent the people of Mississippi and the certification process gives me an opportunity to use my vote to voice their concerns.  I have followed the proceedings after the 2020 presidential election and heard from many Mississippians who are troubled by the conduct of the election in various states and the eventual outcome.

“I, along with my constituents, are alarmed with the erosion of integrity of the electoral process.  The people I represent do not believe the presidential election was constitutional and cannot accept the Electoral College decision; therefore, I cannot in good conscience support certification.

“I firmly believe in our Constitution, the rule of law, and the importance of full faith in the integrity of our elections.  We, as a nation, must do everything we can to protect and restore confidence in the electoral process.”

Senator Wicker

Today I will vote to accept the results of the December 14 Electoral College vote, which resulted in the election of Joe Biden as President. I am disappointed in the outcome of the 2020 election. I have been privileged to work with President Trump during his successful four-year term, I was glad to earn his endorsement in 2018, and I was honored to serve as a Co-Chairman of his state campaign.

“However, our campaign lost a close election, and it is time to acknowledge that. The President’s own Attorney General, his head of election security, and a number of Trump-appointed, conservative federal judges all have found that, despite widespread allegations of fraud, there simply was not enough evidence to change the outcome of the election in any state. This is also the conclusion of every Republican Secretary of Defense from the past two decades. As they wrote recently, ‘the time for the formal counting of the electoral college votes, as prescribed in the Constitution and statute, has arrived.’

“Congress cannot — and should not — get into the business of deciding the results of our elections. Under the Constitution and federal law, Congress’s power is limited to counting electoral votes duly submitted by the states. Anything further would not be compatible with our Constitution or the conservative principles of limited government that I have sworn to defend.

“I also fear any attempt by Congress to overturn state election results would empower national Democrats to hasten the end of the Electoral College, which preserves a voice for smaller states like Mississippi in our national elections. Without the Electoral College, large, liberal states like New York and California would likely determine the direction of our republic to its detriment.

“I know many of my fellow Mississippians will disagree with my decision, and I share their commitment to making sure our elections are fair. But I must vote according to my conscience, my oath of office, and my understanding of the rule of law. I hope that with the start of a new Congress, we can take steps to restore faith in America’s electoral system.”

Wicker didn't really need to convince me about his RINO credentials but removing all doubt will likely help others who still weren't clearly seeing his position inside the MS GOP establishment.

Dear Cindy:

The majority people you "represent" DO believe the election constitutional and fair. You are voting with cuckoo for cocoa puffs wing of the party that live in conspiracy theory land that is not based in any sort of reality. There is ZERO evidence of wide spread voter fraud. Over 60 lawsuits and hearings and NONE as been presented. You are nothing more than a shill, hanging on to the coat tails of a man who was literally caught paying off not one, but two porn stars. You are an ACTUAL joke and i cannot wait until 2026 when you are removed by the people of this state.

Damn! And I thought Wicker was being an adult with his response. Apparently those on the side of Trump feel differently. Yesterday was sad, and a microcosm of what has happened to our nation when the idea of any kind of compromise is thrown out the window.

Anonymous said...

so.. after 60+ lawsuits which heard evidence were thrown out by judges who were appointed by D and R and even Trump....people continue to believe the election was 'rigged'.

even after officials within the executive branch affirmed that it was fair and secure...

CHS chooses to look at conjecture, conspiracy, and allegations as facts instead of actual facts.

kudos to Senator Wicker for acting as a Senator and for not giving in to the traitors who supported the storming of the US Capitol building yesterday..

I'm sure Wicker and Smith are nice enough folks but they are on the wrong side of this. Trump has been a New York shyster ever since he came to Gulfport hawking building "the biggest casino ever", only seeking attention for
himself. Democrats and Republicans (on the State level) were mesmerized by this huckster. NOTHING ever happened! All hat and NO cattle! Trump has been doing for 4 years what Trump does. MS has been a pawn in his game.

Unfortunately we are already seeing Trumpers making thousands of posts that it was the ANTIFA that did this yesterday.

And yet, we can watch the videos and see hundred of faces. Two of which are Tim Gionet and Nick Fuentes. both white supremacists. The doofus with his feet on Pelosi's desk; Richard Barnett, 60, from Gravette, Arkansas. He's definitely not ANTIFA. The woman who was killed as a QANON conspiracy theorist.

ANd there's a photo going around of two men that these nuts are claiming are Philly ANTIFA. Not so. Philly Antifa posted a pic of these "gentlemen" identifying them as white nationalists.

But hey, keep drinking the Kool-Aid of lies. Yesterday showed what it leads to.

I really hope that those senators and representatives who incited and stood with these terrorists are expelled from congress and criminally prosecuted for their abhorrent attack on this nation. They should live in shame from their prison cells and school children should be informed as a cautionary tale of their cowardly actions this day. Cindy Hyde Smith is the worst our state has to offer.

Over 60 lawsuits that didn't stand. Audio and Video of some of the proceedings where lawyers were outright admitting they had no evidence of fraud. This has gone far enough and we should have never got to this point. I'm glad Senator Wicker did not go along with the foolishness people are holding onto. Hyde-Smith on the other hand, has shown she is a puppet and will continue to be for the next six years. Excited she would be the first female senator from the state, but ashamed she has no mind of her own. It's a sad existence.

Why can’t they figure out that all Trump was trying to do was stay in office to run out the statue of limitations on his insure fraud and tax issues in New York. There are countless civil lawsuits that he and he kids have been able to avoid.

Lets move on. Correct that in many states you had right at 90% voter participation while past years it was below 60%. Something smells but proving it is another matter. We had 3 things come together Covid, riots and police actions this Summer and the election that fueled this. Allowing vote by mail is a BAD recipe for corruption as we just saw. I do agree that Facebook and Twitter cause these things to be inflamed because people use it as their news source and just post crap that some people believe. 25 years ago you had to think for yourself and decide. Look what has happened in 4 years we have constantly called a President illegitimate since he took office, hounded him about affairs, taxes and prior business deals and many news sources went along with these ideas. Will the same be done to Biden and his family dealings? Is this our political future?

Hopefully for the good of the nation Donnie will either get his crazy lame duck ass removed this week via 25A and/or impeached next week.

11:54 it's not a problem with mail-in voting. It's just not. I truly believe that a overwhelming majority of people that is calling mail-in voting a problem, has never actually tried to vote by mail.

We have to start being more realistic and stop giving into BS. A Pandemic and social unrest brought out a large amount of people. It's as simple as that. I'm sorry Newsmax or OANN, or whatever new YouTube page someone has told you "tells the truth" but it's just not that. Go to therapy or something. Get some new medication is you must. For all you none republicans that like to throw the RINO term around about anybody you disagree with, obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.

To claim Wicker is a RINO because he did what was constitutionally correct makes him the true conservative and yall nothing but idiots.

To make it clear, Wicker voted exactly the same way that Senator Mike Lee (certainly not a RINO by any conservative standard) and Senator Rand Paul (probably more a Libertarian, but in no way fitting the RINO term as you mean it).

So Wicker is a RINO because he voted as a constitutional conservative? No, you are an idiot that probably has never participated in any conservative political movement - except to kiss the ring of Trump, who is and has been a RINO for the past four years. Before that, he was a Democrat, and before that he was a Reformist.

Get your terms straight, or get the hell out of the process.

Anonymous said...

11:28 - there probably is not a link, but very easy common sense, and political theory could prove the statement correct.

Cindy Hyde-Smith represents ALL Mississippians, not just the Trumpsters. That includes the folks who voted for Biden, the other fringe candidates, AND several of the folks who voted for Trump. Some because they liked him and support some or all of his agenda, and some who voted for him because they were voting against Biden.

Doesn't take much of a math major to add the Biden votes, the fringe votes, and just a small percentage of the Trump votes (those that recognize what is election fraud, and what is fund raising or ego raising) to get to a majority.

Have you got a link to show that CHS constitutents believe differently?

Please realize that the courts to which you refer, never saw or ruled on the evidence which those who questioned the election had gathered. They simply would not consider the evidence at all. Seems like they should have at least examined it before throwing the cases out. Maybe there was not sufficient evidence....maybe there was. Since it was never brought before nor heard by the courts, we can only speculate. Some of us believe there is evidence there....some don't.
That is what "judges" are for, however, they have abdicated their responsibility to the concerned American citizenry.....

Anonymous said...

"Please realize that the courts to which you refer, never saw or ruled on the evidence which those who questioned the election had gathered. They simply would not consider the evidence at all."

That is a lie. Several judges, including ones appointed by Trump, asked for specific and provable evidence of voter fraud which Trump's lawyers could not provide because they admittedly didn't have any. Just baseless accusations and conspiracy theories put forth by whackjobs like the thugs and insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol yesterday.

Bottom line, you can't go to court and expect a judge with any integrity to overturn an election just because you don't like the vote totals. You have to have a legal claim, and you have to have evidence to back it up. Trump's legal team had 2 months to produce evidence to present to several courts and they couldn't.

1223, easiest test I have ever taken.

1) Never. The US has never established laws for elections; this one or any. Except that the Presidential (and Congressional) election is to be held on the First Tuesday after the First Monday of November, every four years. And that did not change.

2) Never. The US does not mail out - or for that matter, hand out - ballots to anybody. And didn't this year.

3) Never. The Us does not mail out ballots to dogs or cats, or people.

As an aside, I've never seen a perfect election. I've never seen one that did not include errors or mistakes, human or intentional. But, the problem is, when they happen you have to prove that the mistakes could have affected the outcome of the election.

In this election, not only has DJT not shown that their complaints were backed by facts, but they also have not shown that their aswsumptions, claims, whatever, would - if true - change the results in a state.

But as to your easy series of questions I had to answer before I could respond as to whether the election was fair (or better, whether Biden won despite any actual errors) - states conduct elections, through their subdivisions counties (or for KF, parishes). The county is the one that hands out, mails out, or otherwise gives ballots.

And for what its worth, how many cases in this last election can you show that a dog or cat was given a ballot, either by mail, in person, or otherwise, by any entity.

I'll wait for your answer. But don't just give an arbitrary number, give the facts to back it up.

Anonymous said...

12:23 - you are conflating two different issues.

Mail-in ballots are ok when done under established rules and regulations. We have had voting 'absentee' by mail for some voters in Mississippi for decades.

The problem with last year's election that is labeled 'mail-in' voting is the change to mailing out ballots to every registered voter, requested or not. Verified or not.

That is an animal of a differnt stripe. Or color. Or species. Mailing out ballots to every registered voter, especially in states that were not prepared ahead of time to do so (cleaning up their voter rolls, etc.) was ripe for fraud. There is enough regular fraud with some of the absentee voting by mail - probably the biggest fraud in Mississippi and other states. States that mailed ballots to everyone were corrupted. But that fight should have occurred before the state instituted it, when it could have been litigated before the ballots were sent.

Anonymous said...

12:40 - the courts saw whatever evidence was presented by Trump in their filings. The problem was, in most cases they didn't file any evidence, or make any specific claim that they couold provide reasonable facts to support. Therefore the courts dismissed those cases, and in several instances it was because in answer to the court's inquiry, the Trump lawyers stated they didn't have any supporting evidence to back up the claims they filed.

Its not the court's job to produce the evidence. That's the responsibility of the challenging candidate. In EVERY case, the court examined what was filed in the petition for review.

Have you read what was filed in the courts, or are you depending solely on what you've read on social media or heard in the idiotic press conferences held by Lim Wood, Rudy, and the rest of the circus?

Never mind. I think I know the answer.

Before you continue to spew your knowledge (none, it appears) about what was actually submitted to the court, go read some of the court cases that were filed. Better yet, pick out those where you claim the court didn't even look. Knowing you might need help figuring out which of the 60+ cases that was, let me give you a hint. Those don't exist.

I'll be glad to discuss or debate any of the cases once you pull out any that you claim the court didn't look or consider the evidence but only after you look at the 'evidence' that was given to the court. The judges did their job. They threw out frivelous lawsuits, which is what these contests were when they didn't contain any claims that were supported.

The people and politicians that are saying this was a fair and honest election spent the better part of 4 years chasing a falsehood that the previous election was a sham because they didn't like the man. Think about that. The double standard is astounding. Protests, what protests? Remember the ones on the left all summer acting like it was the summer of love in Seatle, Baltimore, D.C., etc? They refused to acknowledge those burning the country to the ground, yet they want to die on the hill for what happened yesterday. I am not happy about the events yesterday, but I know what caused them. It's not just Donald Trump.

Somebody PLEASE provide the links to credible information indicating dogs, cats and unrequested people received ballots. That will be interesting reading. Also, mail in voting is "ahem" how the military votes; been that way for decades. Let's face it, those who don't win cry foul. The difference between this election and many others is those who lost didn't have the resources needed to whine and cry all the way to a civil war. It's coming. It's not over. He will return and his followers who have pledged allegiance to a man instead of our country will follow like sheep. Meanwhile on the other side we're freeing the land like a bunch of dumb ass sheep as well. Damn, just THINK

Five Thirty Eight: Republicans Won Almost Every Election Where Redistricting Was At Stake

Joe Biden may have won the White House, but down-ballot races were much better for Republicans. In fact, the GOP’s victories in state-level elections could pay dividends long after Biden leaves office, thanks to their influence over next year’s redistricting process.
.....
Both parties went into the election with a chance to draw more congressional districts than the other, but the end result was just about the best-case scenario for Republicans. As the map below shows, Republicans are set to control the redistricting of 188 congressional seats — or 43 percent of the entire House of Representatives. By contrast, Democrats will control the redistricting of, at most, 73 seats, or 17 percent.

When Nevada conducted their primary in June, they hastily concocted a system whereby all of the voters would receive their ballots in the mail in a timely fashion. But there was one major fly in the ointment that nobody seemed to see coming. As the Free Beacon reports, in Clark County (the state’s largest, which includes Vegas) more than 200,000 ballots were sent to the wrong addresses so the voters never received them.

More than one-sixth of the mail-in ballots sent to voters in Nevada’s largest county during the 2020 primary went to outdated addresses, according to a new watchdog report.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation, an election integrity group, reviewed the 1.3 million mail-in ballots Nevada’s Clark County sent during the June primary. It found that more than 223,000 of the ballots were sent to outdated addresses, leading the postal service to designate them as “undeliverable.” The undeliverable ballots accounted for 17 percent of all ballots mailed to registered voters. Nearly 75 percent of Nevada’s total population resides in the county, which includes Las Vegas.

“These numbers show how vote by mail fails,” said J. Christian Adams, PILF’s president and general counsel. “New proponents of mail balloting don’t often understand how it actually works.

To those of you claiming people received multiple ballots or that dead people received ballots, please learn to read and comprehend. People were mailed ballot APPLICATIONS, not ballots. You can also pick these up at a post office or download them. You have to send the request in filled out, to receive a ballot. And then a mail in ballot requires information to prove your identity, signatures, sometimes a witness, etc.

There has been zero evidence of widespread mail in fraud. Exactly zero has been presented to any court of law.

Baseless because CNN told me so. And their court jesters sound so intelligent they have to be telling the truth.

Maybe, if I regurgitate what they say, people will think I am intelligent too.

But,surprise, people won't. As soon as you open your pie hole, you will be relegate to the herd of people who have never had an original thought.

(Other than, "Gee! I need to pee.")

Bennie Thompson is now telling everyone that will listen, "He was never ever ever ever scared, only trying to obtain gas masks for his Congressional buddies".

WTF ?

Well, that might be true . . . but why was the Bolton Rockstar photographed hiding on the floor ?

Bennie is tough !!!

There was no storming of the capital. The capital police escorted the group right in. Despite the MAGA caps, the group didn’t look, sound or act anything like right wing protestors. Breaking the “security” glass by punching it with your fist a few inches from a cop’s face while said cop doesn’t even flinch was unrealistic. Nobody ducks for cover when the gunshot goes off. The girl falls back landing perfectly on her backpack to cushion her head. The black guy in the Viking helmet has been seen at BLM events in the past.

The Deep State wanted Trump gone and they had all the resources to make that happen.

Why is an election only fraudulent when your guy loses. Why are you and those who think like you are the only patriots? Why must everyone who has a different view of our country automatically be stupid? Why when someone you don't like is elected to office something must be wrong and rules changed? Why voters who don't look or vote like you must be illegal? Get real about distrust in an election when your guys doesn't win. Are you really a believer in a Democratic
society? Or must your guy win for it to be valid. Grow Up!

Republicans have given up their seat at the adult’s table. They will be relegated to fringe conspiracy websites and back room bribery in pursuit of their attacks on our constitution.

Doesn't really matter. We no longer have the right to elect Senators in Mississippi.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
