Minorities not getting vaccine
Mississippi ranks second to last in Covid-19 vaccination rates. The CDC reported on its website only Kansas has a worst record. Here are the bottom 5:
State/Total Vaccinations/Vaccinations per 100,000
1. Kansas: 20,158 (692)
2. Mississippi: 25,324 (745)
3. Georgia: 80,459 (758)
4. Alabama: 80,278 (821)
5. Arizona: 58,707 (944)

The Health Department reported 25,324 vaccinations today. 67% of those vaccinated are white. Unfortunately, 18% of those vaccinated are black. Blacks comprise 37% of Covid-19 deaths in Mississippi.

We are the dumbest and poorest state. No surprises here.
Lets drink to Kansas-
Well - has anyone looked at the percent of blacks that make up the first tier in including Dr.s' nurses, and other people who have received the vaccine first? Without that information then this post is just race baiting.
We can’t even be first in being last.
Mississipians over age 65 are 76% of all deaths and a higher percentage of hospitalizations.
So far 10% of the vaccine distribution has been to people over 65.
That is deadly, stupid and borders on government allowing murder.
The only surprise is that Tate's approval rating is as high as 34%.
I’ll get one. But one is not yet available to my demographic.
The current tier should be >75 and >65 with underlying medical issues. Idiots. Tater Tot and Dodds need to own this deadly mismanagement.
Well, they managed to inoculate the healthiest sector of the Mississippi population, the national guard. Virtually all, if not all are under 60, and the nature of their job requires them to be in top physical shape. Disgusting!!!
2:26, that's why Millennials call Covid "Boomer Remover".

So, the black death rate is pretty comparable to the black population in the state at large, perhaps a bit less or more - I don't follow the stats that closely. What are the other 15% of vaccinees here? Filipino nurses? People who call themselves mixed-race? It's not like this state has a large Hispanic or Asian population.
Ooops. Your stats are incorrect. This Bloomberg feed is up to date and clearly shows we are now in dead last in vaccination/population.

The Governor and Dr. Dobbs are literally allowing our elderly to be killed by Covid.
Exactly who wrote this racist crap. The people who have been vaccinated were health care workers REGARDLESS OF RACE. This is exactly the kind of BS that is converting non-racist to racist every day.
I can’t fathom why black people would be hesitant to take a rushed vaccine pushed by a government that purposely gave a large community of them syphilis to see what would happen
I talked to a nurse at a local doctors office In Ridgeland on Monday. She informed me that she had an appointment Friday to get the first dose of the vaccine. However she was going to have to drive to HATTIESBURG to get the shot! The total mismanagement in distribution of the vaccine doesn’t give me much hope that the population as a whole will be able to get the vaccine anytime soon.

Did Feel Bryant's friends get first dibs? You know, like they did with welfare money, senior agency positions, etc.? Maybe all those unadministered does just disappeared out the back door.
Your mighty disrepctful of the forma guvnah.
IT'S DEPPITY PHEEL AND DON'T YOU FERGETIT!!
@7:44 Are you referring to the program that was carried out by a HBCU with a black nurse coordinating the program with a black doctor in one of the leadership roles? Eunice Rivers and Eugene Dibble? It's hard to point to racism when a black institution with a black program coordinator working with a black doctor were major players in the program.
1. The Over-65 crowd can and should be isolated to prevent exposure. Front line workers who are potentially exposed every day as a result of their jobs (and who can then spread it to their patients) should be the first in line for vaccination.
2. There is a lot of stupid out there as it relates to being fearful of getting vaccinated. But people are free to be stupid.
3. So far, there's enough vaccine to innoculate less than 1% of the population, but we're going to start splitting hairs over distribution statistics already?
My father is 87, has Parkinson's, and is in a nursing home. His facility isn't scheduled for the first round until January 22. Utterly crazy.
Right now, it’s available to people 75+. But if you live in Jackson, you must drive to Greenville for the shot. How many people in that age group can or will make that trip? Not offering the shot in Jackson is pathetic.
Why is anyone surprised? We have Republicans in charge. As we've seen over the past 4 years, they turn gold into sh-- very quickly.
Not sure how this article can be "race baiting". Its just a statistic.
8:18 January 7th YOU CANNOT ACCESS THE MISSISSIPPI DEPT OF HEALTH WEBSITE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A VACINATION!!!! This State IS a big fuck up
You know, KF, you can lead a horse to water...it takes a bunch of willing participants to raise these numbers. Perhaps minority numbers are lower based on the dark history in this country of conducting unethical experiments on its people. Surely, a rushed vaccine such as this does not raise confidence in those same people.
I'm told (this morning) that the only way for Madison and Rankin residents to schedule is to drive to Greenville or Natchez. Who the hell planned this circus?
This vaccination process is ridiculous. My 80 year old mother has to go online and schedule her vaccination appointment through an online app. Then, the only site available to her is in Natchez, 1 1/2 hour drive from her house in Terry. Then she has to go back to Natchez to get her second vaccination.
By my math we now have 16 centers giving the vaccine. Each center can give 200 shots per day for a grand total of 3200 shots per day. Assuming a 6 day work week, that's 19,200 shots per week. Mississippi has a population of roughly 3,000,000. Assuming 80% of the citizens take the shot that's 2,560,000 people to vaccinate. It will take 133 weeks or 33 months (2.7 years) to get it done. I know there are some logistical issue like vaccine availability but gee we need to be planning now as to how we're going to get the stuff out to the pharmacies and open up tons more vaccine sites etc. Shortly we will have a lot more doses.
@11:12 AM Don't forget to factor in the requirement for two shots per person, either 21 or 28 days apart, depending on the vendor.
I see people showing up for their second shot and learning that there is no vaccine available for them.
As of Thursday 1/7/2021 at 11: 45 AM, the only location available is the Washington County Health Department in Greenville. That is a 2:03 drive for me, EACH WAY, X2. WTF?????? Is Tater Tot running this operation?
No stats on complications from the vaccine?
As Archie Bunker responded to Edith, who said, "But, Awchee, I thought the government was pose to protect us.": "Eedit...they don't give a shit".
I work in a home health industry. I can tell you from first-hand experience our black employees are refusing to take the vaccine at a much higher rate than whites. Same story all around "I'm just not sure about it, I'll wait and see what happens to the people that get it first".
Sad to see the black community shooting itself in the foot because of paranoia fueled by black activists using Tuskegee 50 years ago to convince them that all medical developments are biased to this day. Never mind this is the same vaccine being given to whites.
The lower black vaccination rate is completely voluntary on their part. Oh well, maybe they'll get to my risk group earlier than expected.
@11:12 Many of the sites are only open two days a week.
Well, 6:54 Jackson has proved that theory is invalid! So what is your answer to that?
Quoting Bugs Bunny "What a maroooon".
