You people are nasty. Jackson managed to rank second in....... drum roll..... wait for it......STD infections. The Sun (U.S. Version) published a map of the top 20 American cities for STD infections. Read and weep (after you take that antibiotic, of course):
Rest of article.

Combined with the high out-of-wedlock births in Jackson, I guess thugs don't like to wear condoms.
Who says we can’t be #1 in something? I believe in you guys.
Looks like no matter what your political preference may be, you are not immune to nastiness!
so what you're saying is there is a better chance of getting shot in Jackson than getting a STD!
A few years ago Jackson was in the top 5 U.S. cities for HIV infection. I imagine that still holds true today. How does this happen in a city with a church on nearly every corner?
Isn't Lubbock Texas #1 in STD? Texas Tech university.
We are number 2 in std and number 2 in murders for cities over 100 thousand. Why can’t we be number one in something? Keep up the good work and maybe if we all work a little harder we can get that number 1 position.
Jackson's baby-daddies are busy, busy.
8:51 - you may have hit on something. churches don't prevent STDs. If that's what these fools have been thinking then they just need some education!
Isn’t the sun a UK tabloid owned by fake news Rupert Murdoch? Not the source I would use for actual factual reporting, but I guess facts don’t sell ads any longer.
My wife once had a job at a hospital in Jackson where part of her duties entailed calling people to give them their STD test results. It was remarkable how many people were ignorant of how they got what they got. She also said there was a direct correlation between a run of bad weather and a spike in STD tests; if there was bad rain, in about three or four days she was going to have lots of calls to make.
8:51...ask yourself that again. I’ve seen more affairs at church than most places around. And I’m talking about white churches.
hate to break it to you but going to church doesn't stop an std from infecting you
Yet one more avoidable expense taxpayer dollars are thrown at.
I thought half the churches in Jackson were now either flop houses or soup kitchens. Any way to determine how many of these medical situations originate around 80 Highway? Also, I heard a rumor that somehow the zoo plays into this.
The ENTIRE BIBLE BELT is on that map. What's that tell you?
In the words of a football teammate at public school, "imma plant me one this weekend."
So, no condoms are not being used as consequences aren't worried about.
Stop being so negative KF. At least people are getting some action here.
Hmmm..."Most _Popular_ STD"...?
I looked at the map and thought "SEC! SEC!"
But...but...with all of these churches, and all of the conservative Christian values that supposedly define our region of the country, aren't our young people being properly educated in the ways of abstinence, marriage-only intercourse, and of course faithfulness to one partner that would eliminate STIs completely?
Just wanted to expand the absurdity to be clear on the sarcasm. No, I'm not so naive as to believe the presence of a church alone will counter sexual promiscuity. I am, however, a proponent for sex ed in schools and through Planned Parenthood, which is anathema to the Bible toting types, but I think it would help stem the epidemic numbers of STIs by educating young people at an earlier age about the risks of unprotected sex.
Probably spread around town by the trafficked minors (really sex slaves) so many fine citizens of Jackson keep getting convicted of prostituting in the hotel rooms around the Capitol City.
Thankfully the Feds and the US Attorney Hurst keep arresting and prosecuting these modern day pimp masters.
It is an issue that the Mayor and JPD don't seem to find worthy of publicly addressing since it is usually AA's enslaving other vulnerable AA girls. Maybe they should bring it up next month during while celebrating a certain history month.

I witnessed the raid on that hotel room. The 15 yr old girl was white. And local men paid them to have sex with her.
Where is New Orleans? The absence of the Big Easy should raise many questions. There has to be a significant factor involved. Real significant!
Seriously.
12:19, nice try to bring in your football fanaticism, but --- facts are again troublesome issues.
There are seven states listed that have schools that are in the SEC, there are three SEC states that are not listed.
And, there are ten states listed that are not in the SEC - everything from California to New York, passing through the mid-west.
So - how is this SEC related?
The bible belt issues might just as easily be related to the demographics of those states - you think?
Oh, good Lord. Hey, anti theist bigots, it has NOTHING to do with churches. Let's see, biggest demographic for STDs is age 15-35.
Where are these problems located? "According to the report, Montgomery, Ala., home to Maxwell Air Force Base, came in at No. 5. Augusta, Georgia, with Fort Gordon, was 6th. At No. 8, Fort Hood’s Killeen, Texas, edged out Shreveport, Louisiana, with Barksdale Air Force Base at No. 9. Fayetteville, home to Fort Bragg, listed as No. 12, while Columbus, Ga., and Fort Benning, was 15th and Columbia, S.C., with Fort Jackson, was 18th."
Dang military folks!?!?!??! /sarcasm.
What damn locations have that age range? Military towns.
Don't make stupid connections where there are none. It's not "the Bible Belt," or "minorities," or just "soldiers."
It's young probably single people with a smidgen of money doing stupid things. Shocker.
Read that there Bible and you'll see that there, too. If you can get over your bigotry. I'll bet those towns have DUIs and drunk and disorderlies, too!! Wowser.
BTW, the study was about CITIES, not states. So drop the "red state" stupidity, as NY and CA are at the top. And on top of that, it's metros of 150K or more.
Do some math sometime, Bubba Baptist-Basher, after you learn to read.
@1:23 PM - what room were you in?
@4:02
All I will say is that my companion for the hour was of legal age.
I can't wait to create a narrative press conference on how my cameras will address this perceived social injustice.
Is this why there is a STD warning billboard on Lakeland Drive and on I20 on the Rankin sides?
Jackson has not ONE single redeeming quality....not a single one.
We need to stop seeing these as black/white, rich/poor, Rankin/Madison/Hinds issues and realize this effects everyone. In this day and time, i am sure at some point, some black male from Jackson sleep with a white girl from Rankin who went on to marry a white guy from Madison.
Manhattan at #13 in the nation?? Someone explain that one to me!
Waiting for somebody to connect this story to SLRP, the Old Sun 'N Sand and the legislature just arriving in town.
Educate your children. If they are going to engage in sexual behavior, use a condom. Please! Protect
Yourself!
The reason chlamydia is so common is that it is a bacterial infection that can remain symptomless for a very long time.
It can leave you sterile and be transmitted to the baby during pregnancy.
The lack of symptoms is why it spreads rapidly.
Chlamydia is an STD found quite often in the upper social economic groups so if you think white Christians are immune, you are sadly mistaken.Indeed, I heard it called " white folks gonnorhea" decades ago. And, the gynecologists back then were remiss in not explaining specifically to the wife how they got the " infection" when they were given the pills and told their husband would have to take pills too. So,it was up to the male to tell the other woman/women he'd had sex with to get treated. How do you think that worked out?
people want to pretend as if this is only a problem for Jackson, while STD infection rates are high across the state.
Per every 100k residents in Mississippi, 1283.61 people are infected with an STD (Source: https://www.alarms.org/std-statistics/)
Mississippi was in the top 10 for the three STD's - Chlamydia #3, Gonorrhea #1, and Syphillis #9.
The biggest mistake people make when it comes to STD's is assuming it's not affecting their neighborhoods.
Whether its crackhead in Virden Addition or someone swinging at a party in in Lost Rabbit, you can get burnt. Use protection!
Ouch !
This article really burns.
We might need to light some sweet smelling Gwyneth Paltrow candles.

'Socioeconomic' is probably the the term you should have used, when you wrote "social economic". 'Socioeconomic' is usually written as one word. You seem to think that being white and Christian, places a person in an "upper social economic group". 'Upper' is a subjective term, though, and I guess that being within the highest 60% of the population, could be considered 'Upper', by someone who's in the lowest 10%.
But when you write, "...gynecologists back then were remiss in not explaining specifically to the wife how they got the " infection" when they were given the pills and told their husband would have to take pills too.", do you mean, "...gynecologists, back then, were remiss in not explaining to wives, how, specifically, they'd become infected. The wives were given pills, and told that their husbands would also have to take the pills."?
