Jack Weatherly took a break from stuffing his face to report on former Governor Phil Bryant's whereabouts over at the Mississippi Business Journal:
Former Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has found a place in the private sector that has a familiar ring to it.The next Haley?
He is a founding partner in Bryant Songy Snell Global Partners and will focus on economic development in the Southeast and international trade markets... Rest of article.

OMG what do any of those three know about business and business strategy? None of them have ever worked in the private sector at all.
In other words, nobody wanted Joey or Katie, so Phil is putting all that leftover campaign money to good use and putting the three of them on payroll for this "consulting" firm.
Maybe all those tax payer funded trips he took to Jerusalem are going to bring more military aid money to Mississippi. The federal government currently sends more of our tax dollars to Israel than it spends in Mississippi.
Government needs to stop supporting all countries and get our highways, bridges and infrastructure back on the front burner. Why are we supporting all of the other countries when we need our house straightened up first? Seems like all of these former politicians want to do nothing but line their pockets....and yes, Haley still pulls the strings on the state of Mississippi
@11:20- What do you actually know about economic development? (There’s WAY more involved than just business strategy, which is not rocket science in and of itself.) Their experiences will actually benefit their journey greatly. The key will be whether or not they’re successful.
WHY do people always bitch about leftover campaign money?!? If people give freely (no one is FORCING them) and the law allows those who run for office to retain the funds, they are doing nothing wrong. Now, if you don’t like the law, bitch about that, but digs at people are just so lazy.
So, now, Bryant was also responsible for how they feds allocate tax dollars to states??
Just shocked he couldn't find a soft landing spot with Lord Snow.
Perhaps they will also specialize in consulting on how to f*ck up a state prison system.
"Economic Development" is bureaucrat speak for welfare for business. In other words, incentivizing business investment into an area that otherwise could not attract or sustain the business. Somehow, that's become a big conservative theme song.
11:43...well said Joey
11:43....people always bitch about it because it is clearly unethical, although legal and normal in Mississippi.
First of all, Philly was not a "Drug enforcement officer" when he left Southern Miss, he was a "Sheriff's deputy" and that is an entirely different thing. It is a better story for Philly but simple research would reveal a different truth. Philly has been vocal about Hunter Biden and how he financially benefited from government, let's see how this works for Philly and his daughter, just follow the money. I am guessing no one in the prison industry will want to hire him or his legislative roommate, Cecil McCrory (yes). I am also guessing that when Tater Tot gets to the bottom of the prison issues, Philly will be front and center in how poorly he handled (mishandled) the dept of corrections. Yes, he was the governor and was in charge and what a horrible legacy of death within the system.
Guess Trump didn't want him after all . . . .

@11:43 that might be one of the worst takes I've seen posted on this site outside of the wackos. Do you not understand that some people have morals that are not always codified in law? Just because bribery is currently legal, doesn't make it ok. If you think Phil or anyone else is off the hook for being judged just because they are technically following their own corruptly written laws.
If the campaign money is used outside of the campaign distributions, it is income to Bryant and taxable. He must pay tax on the income or he has committed Fraud, although Stacey Pickering converted campaign funds into income and committed fraud but it was either ignored or he was allowed to pay a late fee and penalty. If anyone knows, it would be good information.
If it’s corporate welfare for large firms then who is looking out for the small companies? Or do they just get left by the wayside after the state and feds rape them to pay for give out programs?
@12:18- You seem to have missed the fact that I DIDN’T say I supported the practice. My point was that the law allows it. Attacking people for following the law is lazy and absurd to me. The focus should be on attacking/changing the policy. Personally, I despise the amount of money spent through campaigns locally and federally, and I don’t contribute politically.
I’m so glad you brought up morals! My personal view on government is that you “can’t legislate morals.” Our government remains in constant chaos because it tries to do just that.
Wow that’s a brain trust that people will flock to but remember there is a sucker born every minute so they will do well.
What a rube.
@12:37, glad I was able to change your mind from “they are doing nothing wrong”.
Our last Democratic Governor has a lobbying firm that has and also had relative working for him. Don't see all the fuss about his little business called "Company Politics".
this is hilarious. if you're not going to practice law, why go to law school? Phil, his daughter, and the azz kisser who now has forgotten how to practice law. wonder how his "firm" has done so far? keep kissing and wait on the appointment, oh Phil needs his azz wiped again, better use 2-ply, its a messy one.
Wow....a new competitor for VisionFirst Advisors......Maybe MDA has-been Glenn McCullough will start HIS own firm..or most likely go back to work for ole "Pheel"...
12:21 - are you blog commenting while getting paid as an IRS employee? If so, you have committed a crime.
If you are not an IRS employee, please, please tell us how you know whether Pickering (or Fitch, or Hood) reported their campaign account expenditures on their income tax returns.
It has always been my assumption that even you IRS employees are not allowed to look at individual returns and provide that information to the general public - but I guess you have evidently done that; or else, frankly, you don't know a damn thing about Pickering's income tax returns but are just making claims that you have absolutely no way to substantiate.
Please let us know which one of these possible scenarios apply, so we will know how to judge your informed commentary.
Prestige Worldwide
Wow 12:21, either you are related to Pickering, worked for him, or just a bag person for him. Sounds like you know it did happen and are covering, how nice for you. If you are not a good reader (bad ACT scores I assume) I understand your confusion. Nothing was said about Hood or Fitch taxes. Your boy Pickering stated in press accounts that he had not paid taxes on tags and such that had been purchased for the party RV. BTW, how does that thing ride and how was Disney world? I would like to know because I am a taxpayer and funded the trip, the car tags, etc. The record is crystal clear on that. Oh, sorry, forgot you don't read well!!!!!!
11:48, Phil is too honest to work at Barbour Snow. MS is a very small pond with relatively few fish that actually create wealth, so these law/consulting firms must either create a project or just dream up some scam/scheme to feed themselves and their minions. And with no DC clout, the federal funds will become less and less. Stay tuned for the military base closures in Biloxi, Meridian, and Columbus.
Um, Lord Snow generally doesn't hire slouches (unless you're legacy). What exactly would Phil bring to their table? Seriously.
Phil brings Trump and his minions to the table.
Phil and the Brexit masterminds are close too.
Don’t count him out as far as knowing people who, like it or not, get things done.
“Bye Phileshia” will commit more malpractice than Tal Braddock at an actual trial.
Get your popcorn and prep up your Moeller counsel cards....this road is gonna get mighty bumpy.
@1:16- You didn’t do a thing for me. I know the difference between right and wrong, and legal versus illegal. Reading the ENTIRE sentence may prove helpful for you. When the context is regarding the law, and it’s followed by the declaration of doing nothing wrong, it’s obvious the interpretation is that they are acting within the boundaries of the law. I apologize for not knowing, in advance, that your morality meter would sound off; however, I wasn’t arguing morals.
I do wonder, what in your moral code allows you to “judge” Phil and others? Again, the “moral” of my original statement (like what I did there?) was if you don’t like the law, bitch about and/or change that. The personal attacks don’t seem “morally” acceptable to me.
Former Guv Phil has a proven record of bringing new businesses into the State.
Perhaps Congressman Thompson might consider approaching the former Governor about establishing some catfish joints in that impoverished Delta district that he's represented for so long.
It might not be a Huntington-Ingalls shipyard, but I'm sure such a plan would let a few Delta youths have a shot at an honest wage.
This is hilarious. Who on earth would hire someone who, in 8 years, did nothing to improve an economy? Our population decreased, there was little business growth, intellectual capital left the state, poverty remains high, education is not adequately funded and we continue to wave an offensive flag. Are you kidding me? Hire this crew to build your economic base? Hopefully, Tate will be a true change agent and put Mississippi’s resources to good use. He should start by hiring a competent, experienced MDA Director. Lord help us.
So no Deputy Phil re-run??
I guess Phil Billy didn't get invited to the Trump Train after all. I thought it HILARIOUS when he thought he would be the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture ... pleeeaasseee! Maybe he could be a staffer for Minnie Pearl, as well
LOL Phil Billy thinks he will be the next Haley Barbour or Trent Lott but I'm afraid he would get lost in D.C. MAYBE Hyde-Smith could help him find his way. MAYBE.
Very interesting ... if one goes back to a publicity interview in the
Mississippi Business Journal on 9-11-19, Songy brags of his new working affiliation with Butler Snow...
Leading one to wonder if this new firm is yet another subsidiary of Lord Snow and Whaley Barbour...
How bout selling heart shaped bath tubs?
Snell...hmmm. That name has a familiar ring. Wait, that's his daughter who was fired by the MadCo board for lack of experience and being a light-weight. And now she's going to be consulting folks on business enterprise and development (whatever that means).
Never heard of Songy (pronounced Son-Gee). Has anybody else?
Actually this trio would have been better served had they opened a Boots 'N More franchise in Lena.
From the article: "Bryant’s hallmark as governor was jobs creation, as well as education."
His education legacy will be the deal he swung with Chokwe-The-Younger to not turn JPS over to state control. Well, that plus serving on a national education committee as Chair while representing a state that remains at the bottom in most education metrics.
I don’t mean to veer off the subject a bit but 5:54 touched on a subject that needs to be addressed, sooner or later. That is Bennie Thompson. Just WHAT has he done for his constituents? I understand he keeps them poor and that’s the voting power. Maybe it’s time someone brought his work and his past to the forefront. Has anyone driven into the Delta and not seen the amount of poverty? This is the 21st century and we still have a section of our state that is in 3rd world conditions.
He should’ve appointed himself to Thad’s senate seat when he had the chance. Bye Philecia.
Maybe ole X Gov (thank the Lord) Feel will take a position with some of his wealthy good ole white Wildlife Commissioners at their hunting camps providing security. After all based on his experience as a Rankin County deputy sheriff he has high standards.Well that is what Sid said .BTW- Did anyone ever confirm that he was certified by LEO -civilian or military?
Phil didn't form this company. According to the article, Songy says he formed it with the expectation that Phil would join him once he left office. What an egotistical statement. Throwing Phil a life jacket. Phil will draw God Knows What off the PERS system. And Phil Jr is damned lucky to have sucked all that money off the MadCo taxpayers over the past four years with no effort and no results.
Phil is a nice guy that although he didn’t do anything particularly great he didn’t do anything bad either. Just kinda kept it between the lines. Joey is... a guy I’m kinda shocked had the private ear of the governor of a state and a guy in probably not paying for consulting on global business. Taxpayers paid Katie 200k a year to attend Wednesday night meetings and glance over attorney general opinions because she was the governors daughter (board atty is typically a part time position)
