Sheriff Tucker Speaks

Madison County Sheriff Randall Tucker issued the following statement about the ACLU settlement.

After almost 3 years, I can tell you that we have settled the ACLU lawsuit. Numerous depositions were taken of department employees, thousands of reports and other documents were provided and man hours lost that could have and should have been utilized protecting the citizens of Madison County. We successfully defended the plaintiffs attempt to make this a class action in the first complaint. The loss of services to our citizens and cost of defending a second complaint was the deciding factor in this settlement. In order to settle the complaint, we have agreed to document more information that I feel will further show that this administration does not target or profile any race. We will update policies regarding certain areas of enforcement to conform to our actual practices that have always been in place. We have also agreed to restart our community advisory boards which I implemented when I first took office so that we can share this information with them and receive feedback from them in order to provide the best possible law enforcement product based on hard work, integrity and professionalism. The Madison County Sheriffs Department will continue to serve all citizens of Madison County through leadership and accountability as we always have.

Thank you, Randy.

Misdirection. Tell the taxpayers house much they are forking over -- including what the insurance will pay -- in this settlement Randy. This is bullshit.

If what you say is true, then announce the settlement amounts in the two cases that were settled.

Nothing to hide, heh?

I guess this statement justifies Heath's $3000 for this month - or did he prepare it in September and still has to do 'something' for October so that it won't look like he's getting paid for nothing.

Although we all know he is.

Thanks Heath. P.S. I hear that Amtrack is cutting our the dining car on the City of New Orleans - can you do something about that for us that enjoy a toddie when taking our subsidized trips to the Saints games?

We all have known for years that the ACLU is nothing more than a Witch-Hunt organization and those who support and defend it are...well, we know what they are too.

I'm all in for holding cops accountable, questioning any shady practices they might employ and nailing them to the wall when one or more of them become thugs. That said, this department stands tall for keeping this community safe, given the limits placed upon law enforcement.

It's utterly ridiculous to complain that the department doesn't patrol and keep order in your area of residence, then bitch, complain and file suit when they DO.

To hell with you Randy. What was the damn settlement amount? I pay taxes to fund your salary and I have a right to know!

This wasn't about di$crimination, but it was about ca$hing in. The aclu has cost the good citizens of Madison County hundreds of thousands of dollar$, thanks to the aclu.

Did the ACLU cost them money or did the actions of the sheriff's department?

That's a well written statement and Randy makes some valid points. But we (taxpayers, citizens, voters of Madison County) deserve to know the terms of the settlement. It's our dollars that were spent. We deserve transparency that Sheriff Tucker and the Board of Supervisors appear to be unwilling to provide.

“I am for socialism, disarmament and ultimately for abolishing the state itself as an instrument of violence and compulsion. I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and sole control by those who produce wealth. Communism is, of course, the goal.” ACLU founder Roger Baldwin, 1935

So...what was there to settle if Randy was already pure as the driven snow?

I've never read a more self-serving public information release in my life.

ACLU didn't force Randy to employ people like the Weisenberger boy who was exposed for bragging on a FB "thin blue line" page about his joy in punching a handcuffed black guy in the face. As with most race-involved scandals, it seems the anti-ACLU crowd in these comments is again putting blame on people who call out racism instead of putting it on the racists. Probably the same mouth breathers that think racism doesn't exist anymore because we elected a black President.

Most of the employees brag openly about being a 'band of brothers'. It's not uncommon for all to support one who can't behave, simply because he wears a badge. It's a code of dishonor.

I like Randy, but the settlement agreement should be made public. Otherwise, it certainly appears he is hiding something that he doesn’t want the voters to know about. Transparency is a good thing.

Supervisors voted for this. Blame them. It's the county and insurance defending the lawsuit.

Your elected County Supervisors made this decision by vote. Next up...Ceremonial dedication of Sulphur Springs Park. Next month there will be an executive session to discuss the possibility of another airport study.

In other words the ACLU was right on the mark on all counts with the evidence being so overwhelming they received a giant settlement. The refusal of county officials to reveal the amount tells you all that you need to know to figure out what is going on.

Why don't some of you try to work in their shoes for once, doubt many could. Keyboard Bullies

Why the F do some of you need to know the amount so badly? The amount doesn’t make the SO’s enforcement practices any more right or wrong, it just shows how much BS the ACLU was willing to sling. Some of y’all need to remember how hard it is to prove something didn’t happen. That’s exactly why the ACLU gets the traction it does.

ACLU is rarely on the side of law abiding people. The people they choose to represent do not have enough sense to know right from wrong. And so, it is rare that someone wants to stand up and call out the subordinates. Everyone knows you’re a racist if you were born of white parents and want to enforce laws. When you get smart enough, you will understand that at some point it is cheaper to settle than to drag it out. No one admitted guilt, did they?

Of course racism still exists. We elected a racist president in 2008 and again in 2012. Obama successfully stoked the fires a racism which are burning large.

The police can be bullies. I know because I worked for the police in Oxford and Jackson.

Sometimes they even get caught, such as now.

There is no such thing as a confidential settlement with a public entity, it must be spread on the minutes of the Board.

Although payment through insurance company may not be, since insurance company not a party should still be public record.

It doesn’t suprise me with some of the comments that I am reading . The ACLU just brought out something that has been happening in Madison county for ever. Yes racism does still exist and is being displayed daily but for those of you who want to make or keep Madison great , this is normalcy for you. There will never be transparency within the sheriff department because it will always have something to hide. I suppose for the biggots, racist and the antoganizers this offends you that someone finally have to pay for wrong doing . All law enforcements are not bad but the ones who are makes it hard on them . It’s a shame that the people in this county don’t want to change and for some of you , you will never know how it feels to be pulled over, cursed out , handcuffed , beaten and killed for DWBBB. Say what you want but this is reality . How many times have you laid awake at night worried if your child would make it home safe because they are black . All black people can not be held accountable for what some do, just as all whites can’t be held responsible for what others do and they do a lot also. Randy Tucker knows what his crews does because he’s ok with it. That’s why he have so many Weisenbetgers’ on his staff. So you can say what you like , but you all know the truth... it’s a sad situation but Madison County is known for its RACISM!!!!!

@11:22 Three (3) things:
1. Grammar 2. Punctuation and 3. Spelling

Now go back to Jackson.

When you do the crime, why does race matter? Guess I am naive to think this should be the case.

"So you can say what you like , but you all know the truth... it’s a sad situation but Madison County is known for its RACISM!!!!!"

You need look no further than Canton City Hall to prove your point. But...you won't do that, now, will you?

I believe if you look at Canton City Hall that would be Reverse Racism wouldnt it?

Kinda like Kenny Stokes and his buddies?

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
