The Blossom Apartments caught fire this afternoon.
JFD Deputy Fire Chief Charles Felton said the fire was probably caused by a homeless person. Although a security fence was in place after a court ordered its installation, the a substantial part of the fence was torn down.
Five of the six buildings remain intact in various states of disrepair.
Many thanks to Andrell Harris for the video.

Another South Jackson landmark torched!
Civic improvement. Hope JFD let it burn to the ground (protecting anything worth protecting in the area) - easier to clean up and restore the area
Although Horn plays the fiddle while Jackson burns ... I'm glad the "un-housed" are taking the lead in urban renewal.
Keep feeding and clothing and bathing the "homeless" and they will come. The lazy bastards have their own social media to identify the most "generous" cities to mooch off. Spare me the "it's the drugs" or "mental illness." Here's looking at you stewpot.
Hate to see fire fighters risking life and limb for something like this. Is there any way to speed up the legal condemnation/teardown process? Seems like it takes too long.
Making an eyesore a worse eyesore
But is the complex even insured?
Sad to hear about the Blossom Apartments fire. With five of six buildings already standing in various states of disrepair, this was bound to happen sooner or later. Glad nobody was reported hurt, and hopefully the city finally moves on demolishing the rest before someone gets seriously injured.
Seriously, if these are arsonist, is there jail time? Do we need to increase the penalty? If I had no place to stay (i.e. homeless), I wouldn't burn down where I was staying?
At this point, you have to wonder if someone is planning these fires to make available land to buy up in order to make money once these areas are ripe for rebuilds. I have an opportunity to buy 9 acres in South Jackson fairly cheap. That could be a money maker if the areas around it keep burning. Clear the land and offer commercial land for sale once most of the area is cleared up.
