Mississippi politics has never lacked for characters. Or grudges. Or strange alliances. Or elections that still get people worked up years later.
Grant sits down with veteran political operatives Andy Taggart and Jere Nash, two friends who spent much of their careers on opposite sides of the political battlefield, to talk about the new edition of their book, Mississippi Politics: The Struggle for Power, 1976–2026.
They pull back the curtain on the 2008 Speaker’s race, the rise of the Tea Party, Cochran vs. McDaniel, Dobbs, the Two Mississippi Museums, the state flag fight, and some of the colorful characters who shaped Mississippi politics along the way.
If you enjoy the stories behind the headlines and want to know how Mississippi politics actually works when the cameras are off, this one’s for you.
