Was the murder of two men on Spanish Court last week a case of street justice?
The Capitol Police reported finding two deceased men shot to death at the Spanish Court residence last week. The Hinds County Coroner said the "victims" were Jamiri Francis and Montrell Smith.
Simply put, Francis is a drug dealer. JPD arrested him for drug dealing or possession of drugs no less than five times over the years.
Montrell stands accused of murder. WLBT reported in December 2021 that JPD arrested Montrell for the murder of a teen in 2020 and charged him with murder and armed robbery of a business.
The Hinds County grand jury indicted Montrell for first-degree murder and in January 2022. The indictment states:
on or about the 27th day of August, 2020, in the First Judicial District of Hinds County did willfully, knowingly, and feloniously, at 3905 Thomas Catchings Drive in Jackson, MS, without the authority oflaw, kill another human being, Austin Green with deliberate design to effect the death of Austin Green by shooting Austin Green with an unknown caliber firearm...
The case has not been adjudicated as it limps along from continuance to continuance.
