Tate Leads By 3 in Poll

The latest Mason-Dixon poll states Tate Reeves leads Jim Hood 46% to 43%.  The poll is posted below.

Some interesting findings of the poll:

* Tate Reeves has higher favorables and lower unfavorables than Jim Hood (p.4), 41%-39% and 26% - 29%.
* Tate has much higher ratings (56%-34%) in North Mississippi, Hood's home turf.
* Hood beats Tate by only six points in the Jackson Metro area while clobbering him in the Delta.
* 50% of men support Tate. Hood leads among women by only 47%-43%.
* 80% of Blacks support Hood but only 24% of Whites support him.
* Hood only polled 8% of Republicans.  That is a huge deal because Hood's campaign claims that he has gotten over 20% GOP vote in previous elections.
* Sample size is 625 registered voters.
* Margin for error is +/- 4.
  *46% were Republicans, 35% were Democrats.
*65% were White, 32% were Black
* 52% were women, 48% were men

This is what happens when you have a candidate from each party that are both horrible. It's really amazing to me just how bad the leadership is in Mississippi both Haley and Musgrove as well as Phil have been so nothing empty suits. I moved here in 2000 from NJ to get the payday lending biz jump started and I live in NE Jackson and my neighbors all cheer for there conservative or elitist liberal candidate as if they will change anythi g for the better. It's unreal how many people swallow the party pill of blue or red.

3% ain’t much. Hood needs more attack ads (sarcasm implied). It may be because I don’t watch much commercial television, or that I only watch the same show. But I see the same themed ads run by hood. All of them are “Tate’s bad man”. I can’t recall a single “vote for me because I’ll do this” ad run by hood. Tate, on the other side, has been running some positive ads.

Whoever is advising Hood is going to cost him the election.

Hillary lead the polls by 80% in October 2016. Trump didn't have a chance! Polls showed he would be lucky to get 20% of the vote and was more likely to get only 13%

Tate has the momentum and is righto n the issues. Hood has Clinton/Obama/Warren/Pelosi

I'm looking forward to Trump coming to Mississippi to put the icing on the cake for Tater. You can bet if he's going to make the stupidest statement he's made so far, he'll make it in Mississippi. It will be big news.

It's within the margin of error.
What surprises me is that it's clear from Hoseman's campaign results over time and current predictions that Mississippians do respond well to positive campaigning.

Tate Reeves negative campaigning has to reach back nearly 2 decades to tie Hood and even then, tries to tie Hood to federal level decisions in which he had no role.

Hood's campaign has been positive ( what he wants to accomplish) and his one negative ad, unlike the barrage by Reeves is accurate and not misleading.

That Reeves raises the old "trial lawyer" bogeyman should insult all Mississippians. Chief Justice Roberts is not only a trial lawyer but a member of the American College of Trial lawyers along with many other highly respected GOP lawyers active in the party. KF, I think you can name a few.

" Trial Lawyer" only means that the lawyer has litigated ( tried) cases in a court of law. Those who made that a bad thing meant " personal injury lawyers" back before tort reform but were afraid the voter would associate that with something good.

What's really interesting in Mississippi politics is that if the African American voter turnout was solid for any candidate, only 15% of whites would need to join their ranks.

It's the abortion issue on which African American churches join evangelicals along with a little help from first class gerrymandering by Reeves that will make a win for Hood tough.

The GOP was pro-choice for decades until they figure out how being " pro-life" would keep Southern African Americans away from races with white candidates.

If 46% of the people polled were republicans and only 35% democrats but tate only has a 3 point lead, tate should be very worried as well as the corporate vultures pouring money into his pockets with the expectation of tate whoring out the state coffers to them yet again.

Anonymous said...

What do you do when you are stuck with two candidates for governor who have both shown themselves to be completely dishonest? Will probably skip the governor's race when filling out the ballot. The lack of real leadership is truly sad.

Anonymous said...

" *46% were Republicans, 35% were Democrats. "

And Tater Tot only has a 3% margin? That's more telling than anything.

Anonymous said...

You know Lil' Tater has to be really worried for him to call Big Daddy Trump in to coax the fence sitting MAGAts into coming out Nov. 5 and saving his butt.

@9:04 What has Jim Hood been dishonest about?

Anonymous said...

We ain’t got long.....

Anonymous said...

When they say Jackson Metro, do they mean Rankin and Madison as well?

Anonymous said...

@9:26 Hood has shaken down at least one good company that does business with the state through a bogus lawsuit related to the Chris Epps mess. Also not a fan of how he gives out contracts to outside law firms to represent the state.

Anonymous said...

I'm 55. But isn't all of this and I mean every political ad as about as childish bunch of s&%^ that I have ever seen? I mean really? All dignity has been lost. Republicans should just be posting where all 'Their" bus pick-ups will start and finish on election day.

8:20, wouldn't it be interesting if Pelosi, the fake indian, and the liar came to Mississippi to rally for Hood?

Anonymous said...

@9:26 what did he do related to the Chris Epps case? What do you mean shook down a good company? Considering all the issues with Epps, I’m glad Hood was doing what he could to chase corruption.

I also don’t have any problem at all with hiring competent attorneys to represent the state in complex litigation that the AGs office doesn’t have the resources to pursue adequately. I don’t understand why that is a big deal at all except that republicans don’t like the attorneys he’s chosen.

Tate wins by 6%

Anonymous said...

Reeves by 10. Why.......Mississippi is at heart a Republican state. Jim Hood is a good candidate who got a fair hearing by the folks and he didn't give them enough of a reason to vote Democrat and overcome the fear of Pelosi, Warren, Thompson, and Clinton having a say-so in running our state. To most Mississippians, Reeves is a safer choice.

Anonymous said...

@11:46 he protected some of his lawyer friends

Anonymous said...

11:46, either the tint on your eyeshades is too dark, or else your blinders are just flat closed.

No - Hood did nothing about prosecuting anybody or anything in the Epps case. That was all done by US Attorney office led by Mike Hurst.

Probably too much like family for Hood to prosecute, just like he couldn't do anything about Scruggs, et al.

What was being said earlier was that Hood "shook down" one of the companies for major campaign (or living, depending on how he handled it) contributions.

I see there are intelligent people reading this blog. Thank you 9:01 and 9:14.

Show of hands: How many conservatives accept poll calls? How many traditional republican voters answer these calls and stay on the line long enough to listen to the push? Let me help you. Maybe 5%. Maybe lower.

This topic usually garners lots of comments. I would guess there are a lot of pro-Hood comments that are not being approved since this website is heavily supporting Tate. Facts matter.

Kingfish said...

Nope. Only one sitting on board unapproved. Got a bunch of hits, just only the number of comments you see.

Website hasn't been anti hood during election. }elves bough advertising. Hood couldve done same but chose not to do so.

Some of the comments posted above summarize my dilemma perfectly. The last Democrat I voted for was Kane Ditto when I still lived in Jackson. I am not thrilled with "having" to vote for Mr. Reeves, but the prospect of AOC, Bernie, Biden, Warren and the rest of the radical left having any influence over MS politics scares the h*ll out of me. For me, then, the "safe" choice is Mr. Reeves. I wish Justice Waller were on the ballot, but, well, he lost.

For transparency, then release who all is supporting this site and how much they have given to this site’s fundraising requests. Real “news” organizations don’t ask for donations from the public. Find it hard to believe that the “donations” don’t have some type of influence. Fake news? Or should I say...”Paid for news”?

Anonymous said...

I'm still gonna vote for Taterhead because he has better hair.

Anonymous said...

Tate people in a panic. Most of the Waller votes are going for Hood.

Anonymous said...

I'll vote for Tater when both Waller and Delbert Hoseman back him.

JBR said...

I was a very strong Waller vote but I’m not ever going to vote for Hood. I don’t trust Tate but the only difference in Clinton (Bill, not Hillary) is that Bill is a lot smarter.

Anonymous said...

@5:45 pm "but the prospect of AOC, Bernie, Biden, Warren and the rest of the radical left having any influence over MS politics scares the h*ll out of me"

Are you seriously scared that these people who are in federal government will have influence over what happens in MS? They would have ZERO influence beyond what their current positions provide. This, to me, is the dumbest argument to vote for Reeves - that AOC and other crazies will influence MS. The last thing that should affect a MS voter's choice for governor should be what some random congresswoman from New York thinks.

Anonymous said...

Democrats will always stick up for fellow Democrats no matter how crazy they become. This is a fact that is proven to be true on a daily basis.

Anonymous said...

Reeves will win because Mississippi is happy with being last in everything. economic development-50th, 50th in education, 50th in quality of living, 50th in health care, declining population overall, young educated people leaving the state in droves...

I wonder if Tate supports our great stable genius president’s idea of building a wall around Colorado to keep the Mexicans and the New Mexicans out? BUILD THAT WALL!!!

Anonymous said...

@11:52
This is the same wall that Bill Clinton and Obama voted in favor of multiple times. Obama still holds the record for number of deportations.

Anonymous said...

@11:52
I wonder how you feel about Chuck Schumer speaking to Georgetown university about the dangers and consequences of illegal immigration. Or how you felt when social media and Hollywood removed pictures of kids in cages at border detention centers once they realized it was from Obama administration years and policy. Also remember Trump rally averages 42% Hispanics so yes he has a lot of the legal immigrant vote. You obviously lack a great deal of insight.

Jim Hood wins with 51%-52% on election night. Hood has been re-elected for the past 16 years. People know Hood is the farthest thing from a socialist or an AOC/Bernie sympathizer. As a republican voter, I believe it's important that we support blue dog democrats whenever we can so they can push back against the far-left in the democratic party.

Anonymous said...

@3:15
If Jim hood were a blue dog democrat I would support him. Unfortunately for him he's not.

Anonymous said...

As usual, this election will turn on whether the black vote turns out. I hope it does. Tate is an awful person.

Anonymous said...

@ 8:53 and 9:00 you trumpers are dumber and more delusional than i thought. Trump’s rallies average 42% of Hispanics?? Who is measuring this? Is somebody counting and categorizing people by race at every trump rally?? Boy you people are dumb. And the “border wall” that Obama and Clinton voted for is not the same as the border wall that trump has proposed (he has lied about the construction of that wall over and over again by the way). And Obama and Clinton definitely didn’t propose that we build a wall all the way up to Colorado the way our genius savior in chief president did the other day. Also, illegal border crossings have been at a record high under trump. He never had a real plan to curtail illegal immigration, he gave you idiots a chant, “build the wall and Mexico is gonna pay for it” and you clowns thought it would actually translate to something tangible. Pretty everything he says is a lie and we can also thank Mr. Obama and democrats for the economy. Men lie, women lie but data doesn’t lie!! It won’t be long before all you idiots really begin to reap the benefits of all trump’s brilliant economic policies!! It will be George w bush round 2!!

Anonymous said...

@9:52... have you been in a coma for 30 years? Yes data is collected on anyone that request tickets to the rally. This has been talked about many times in the main stream media. He has taken a page out of Obama play book for campaigning. A 2018 augustNAACP poll shows a 29-31% approval rating for Trump overall with black voters. Sept 2019 poll shows a 35-39% approval with black voters. However, Trump doesn't poll well with black females and does well with black males in the ages of 35-40 years old. Hispanic rating is through the roof actually. These are not your traditional voters that supported Romney or that loser McCain or that awful bush family and have no ties to Republican party. In fact after 2020 they might vote democrat again or just not vote. But they do vote Trump. He pulls all demographics and is hard to nail down and predict. He's simply not a sorry a$$ politician deadbeat like wicker and tate Reeves. He certainly not Haley or some good ole redneck. He's not viewed as a party type.

Anonymous said...

@ 7:26 Like I said you trumpers are dumber and more delusional than I thought. An AP-NORC poll conducted at the beginning of the month showed that only 4% of African Americans think Trump has been good for them and only 19% of Latinos. And if we look at the 2018 midterm election, 90% of African Americans voted for democratic candidates and 69% of Latinos voted for democratic candidates. It was the highest midterm turnout we have seen in decades because Black and Latino voters wanted to get rid of the republicans that enable trump. 27% of the Hispanics that voted in the midterm said it was their first time voting. 18% of the Blacks that voted in the midterm said it was their first time voting. Both of those demographics had a higher percentage of first time voters in the midterm last year than Whites. Keep dreaming that trump is gonna somehow build a multiracial coalition because he isn’t a traditional politician. Black and Latino voters see trump the same way they see someone like Tate, a no good republican that’s against everything they stand for!! It’s only you idiots that have been duped by the entertainer in chief

@12:32
Trump voters don't poll nor do they tradionally vote. Look at some recent NAACP polls not some off the wall liberal rag. That's the problem. Your making this a red or blue issue. Like I put in my earlier post Trump voters aren't out rally for the republicans. Most dislike both parties unlike you a party hack. Yes he will win big numbers in black and Hispanic voters. Yahoo drove Hispanics to 2016 polls assuming they would vote Hillary but many voted Trump. They sent an I'm sorry editorial staring they helped elect Trump mistakingly assuming the Hispanics wouldn't vote Trump. Read about that one. NBC covered it last year. I will let you get back to your NPR.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
