That is a great deal on a fine concealed carry pistol. Don't let yourself become a victim like so many innocent people in the metro area. You have to take charge of your personal defense. It has been this way for the entirety of human existence.
This is a great price and great EDC (everyday carry) weapon for the few remaining law abiding citizens of Jackson. Lock and load.
Hmm, my wife (who is a woman, for those of you in The Fondren) carries and "handles" her 1911 just fine...
I've been debating purchasing a Ruger LC9.
I really like my LCP .380
This is roughly the same cost as the LC9. Is the S&P comparable or better?
Disclaimer: I have an older model 39 S&W I like. Wasn't a big fan of newer S&P autos.
If you travel thru Columbia, SC it is a must stop. They build sell great firearms.

Ruger makes fine weapons. Hard to say if one is better over the other. I will say this, there are many gun snobs who will mock you for buying and carrying Ruger anything except rimfire or wheel guns. Ruger is the undisputed king of the rimfire.
Personally though, I would buy the S&W as a carry weapon.
i carry a handgun at all times. i believe in self defense. however even if you are ever forced to ice a drugged out zombie thug attacker, and even if you do it in front of a busload of nuns and 5 respected businessmen in the community, there will ALWAYS be someone screaming for you hide for no other reason than the fact you used a firearm to defend yourself. somebody will always sympathize with the aggressor here in the land of political corectness. look at what the hinds county DA did to that poor fella who had to shoot that thug down on mcdowell road.
Funny how when someone brags about a caliber, it's always a .45.
Caliber doesn't mean as much as placement does.
.45 guy here as well.
But, with today's ammunition and pistol selection, 9mm is quite a lethal round for self-defense.
12:10 has a great point! I just bought an FNH 9mm made in Columbia, SC Remember, FNH made the Browning for many years. It was even one of the factories that the German Military captured ( Herstall, Belgium) because of its dedication to craftsmanship and it’s elite machinists! John Moses Browning knew through his allowing them to manufacture the 9mm it would become a great renowned firearm. I bought a Browning 9mm NATO in 1992 for $495. Same weapon today is over 1K. It’s STILL my favorite go to and an FBI sharpshooter talked me into buying it when I was at Gunsmith’s at the corner of Robinson Road an Highway 80. Back when it was safe to go there. God I miss those days.
I highly recommend anyone who carries, or just has firearms in the home for self-defense, to obtain firearms insurance. If you have to cap someone, in today's environment you will be sued and victimized yourself by the ghetto lottery crowd.
And if an overjealous or PC DA wants to get headlines, your legal defense will break your bank. Remember, we working and homeowning folks don't get free defense attorneys, only the deadbeats get such "free stuff."
There are a few carriers out there, but I have "ccwsafe" with their criminal and civil coverage. They have discounts for veterans and LEO/retired LEO.
It's interesting to see all the folks on here talking about "capping" and "icing" another human being...its my sense that none of you have ever had a firearm pointed, much less fired at you. There are a lot of us combat veterans who walk among you who have had the unfortunate experience of taking a life - it changes you forever. So think, be aware of your surroundings, practice sound risk management, and be realistic when you evaluate your own capabilities and limitations. It's easy to start a gunfight, but can you finish it successfully? Do you have the focus and mindset to be better than your adversary? If you can't be honest with yourself, it might be a better idea to leave your firearms at home.
Spend time at the range, hire a coach, do stress exercises, practice combat breathing and get an idea how effective you are with your firearm once your heart rate gets elevated and your fine motor skills begin to deteriorate.
The fact of the matter is, you have absolutely no idea how you will react in a deadly force such a situation, all you can do is prepare, train and protect yourself legally. Don't be a victim, but don't be a part of the problem either...
I've bought a lot of stuff from PSA, several forearms and lots of parts. I don't own a Shield, but I have relatives who do. They are as good as any striker-fired polymer pistol. As stated above, shots must hit to be effective. If you can't hit with one of these, you can't hit with anything.
Anyway, it's a good price for a good gun sold by a good company. If you want more than that, well, I guess you have more dollars than sense.
Is this a single action or double action firearm?
Know Thad well, great guy wholly trustworthy - he knows his guns, and gun laws.
A well placed shot is always better than any particular calibe of weapon. Just ask Guttalife.
I love my Ruger LCP .380, easy to conceal, smooth edges that don’t snag on clothing. Not the biggest caliber, but I have good self defense rounds loaded. I’ve put several hundred rounds thru it at the range with absolutely no issues.
What 6:21 said. Anytime I'm walking out the door and I feel like I need to take my gun I ask myself, "Do I really need to go? Is there ANYTHING I can do differently?" Nine times out of ten you've got time to sit and think for a two or three minutes without adversely affecting your range of outcomes.
Like, spend 3 minutes longer in the car and $1.75 more going to the liquor store in the good part of town, rather than take the unnecessary risk of having to look at some 17 year old kid's brain matter you spilled and spending years defending your actions in civil and criminal court. And (not that it would happen to any of the super badasses here who've spent every week for the last ten years putting 200 rounds on target and training. for. this. very. moment. but) what if you get your ass shot off? Most people don't have the time, money or training for impromptu urban warfare, and even those that do can't be "on" all the time. Just avoid putting yourself into dangerous positions where you need a gun and push back from the fried chicken once in a while. Cause that's what's most likely to kill you.
@7:18
While listed as DAO, it is technically neither. It is a "striker fire." This video does a good job of explaining how striker fire operates.

As usual, The Kingfish is correct. Only three things count in a gun fight.
1. Shot placement.
2. Shot placement.
3. Shot placement.
As for a female carrying a .45. That post is probably just some twit and not true but.... I surely hope it's not a 1911 model.
They are great for fun. I own two Colt Gold Cup models. For defensive carry? Never! I would no more carry a 1911 for defense than I would commute to work in a T-Model. My daily carry is a Glock 29 or a Charter Arms "Boomer".
Perfect gun for the little lady would be the .50 Derringer. One shot, one kill.
Where can I join the CCP club? How much are the dues and how soon can I get my de-coder ring to get all the secret messages from J.T. at Supertalk?
Hey 9:22, this is the twit whose wife carries her Kimber 1911 every day, without fail. She spent her earlier LE career as a Border Patrol Agent; she’s probably got more firearms training than anyone commenting here and is an amazing shot. She’s also kinda cute...
So before you throw all women into the same basket, consider the fact that there are plenty of women who not only can whip your ass, but out-shoot you any day of the week.
Serious question: When you have a concealed carry permit and you have the weapon on you, what is the protocol when stopped by the police for speeding, etc? I've always worried that they'd drag me out of the car and beat me and cuff me.
@4:43
Mississippi law does not require you to disclose that you are armed unless you are asked. The best policy is to go ahead and let the officer know you are carrying. I've been stopped two times in the last 15 years. The first time, the officer ran my driver's license and was informed that I had a Firearms Permit. When he came back to my vehicle he asked me if I was carrying. I wasn't and told him so. He believed my and told me the reason was the fact that I was permitted. The second time I presented the officer both my driver's license and my firearm permit (IC endorsement by this time.) He also asked if I had a firearm in the vehicle, which I did not. He handed both licenses back to me and told me to be on my way. Now days I don't leave home without a firearm. If stopped and I'm armed I will keep both hands on the wheel and let the officer know that I am permitted to carry and that I am doing so. Only after getting his approval will I reach for my wallet. It may not be the law but I feel that is the best way for both of us to feel safe. I would enjoy hearing from some LEOs (active) on this subject.
The best way to handle an encounter with a police officer when carrying, or if you have a firearm in your vehicle, is to make sure your hands are visible at all times and CALMLY inform the officer that you are a concealed carry permit holder and tell the officer where on your person/in your vehicle the firearm is located. (A great way to do this is to have your license in your left hand by the time the officer gets to your door, that way you don’t have to reach for anything during his/her initial survey of you). Then ask the officer what she/he’d like you to do, and do it SLOWLY. The absolute worst thing you can do when an officer approaches your car is to yell “I have a gun,” or take it out to show them - any abrupt movement is going to raise the officer’s index of suspicion and change the entire nature of your interaction.
I would like to add one note to 7:29 and 7:41 posts. If pulled over at night, do exactly as these 2 post mention, but also, turn on your interior light and roll down the driver side window so the officer can clearly see your hands on the steering wheel.
Just ordered yesterday & was not free shipping. I was charged $17 on the shield and another $8.50 for the extended 10-round mag because they entered & are to ship each order separate. Not sure if the ship-to ffe, TALON DEFENSE, Madison, MS, will charge another $25 www on top of that or not?
