Governor Phil Bryant issued the following statement.
Amazon is locating a consumer goods fulfillment center in Marshall County. The project will create 850 jobs over three years.
“I am proud to welcome Amazon as the newest member of the Mississippi business community. Amazon’s presence demonstrates to industry leaders around the globe that Mississippi has what it takes for companies like Amazon to remain competitive and efficiently reach their consumers from our attractive location in the Southeast U.S.,” Gov. Phil Bryant said.
Amazon is currently making improvements to an existing 554,000-square-foot building in the Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park.
“We are excited to bring our first fulfillment center to Mississippi, creating 850 full-time jobs with a $15 minimum hourly wage,” said John Felton, Amazon’s Vice President of Global Customer Fulfillment. “We appreciate the state and local elected leaders who have supported Amazon’s entrance into Mississippi and we look forward to providing great job opportunities and an exceptional customer experience.”
The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance for building construction and road improvements. Marshall County is providing assistance for road improvements, as well as ad valorem tax exemptions. The Tennessee Valley Authority is also assisting with the project.
“Mississippi’s teamwork at the federal, state and local levels, Marshall County’s proximity to a distribution hub and the region’s skilled workforce, were instrumental in Amazon’s decision to locate its new fulfillment center in our state,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “The Mississippi Development Authority, working with Marshall County, Marshall County Industrial Development Authority and TVA, is proud to support Amazon as the company creates 850 career opportunities for the people of North Mississippi.”

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

Alright, Pheel!!!
Happy for Marshall County. but I sure wish the state would remember Southwest Mississippi. We get no help from the state at all.
Agree with 10:17. Forty miles north or south of Hwy 84 from Natchez to Waynesboro is no man's land for any new industrial development for many decades.
Companies generally want quick access to education and airports as well as other companies. Getting harder to create stuff in the middle of nowhere.
While I wud MUCH rather have sumthin than nuttin---WTH is a "FULLFILLMENT CENTER"? Holly Springs/ Marshall County needs all the help it can get but this sounds like Amazon (w spare change) tossin a bone to Mississippi as part of their "feel good" charity work----what kinda jobs? Sounds like Amazon is proxy for govt program w tax benefits and feel good benefits-----NOT TRYIN TO BE NEGATIVE JUST SKEPTICAL OF REAL BENEFITS!!!
I, for one, welcome our new overlords.... :)
We need all we can get in MS but WTH is a "FULFILLMENT CENTER"? Sounds like Amazon throwin a lil "tip money" at Holly Springs to get "feel good" benefits and tax credits------PLEASE don't get me wrong but WTH is this but ANOTHER BS government program funded by private enterprise w NO TANGIBLE TRANSEFFABLE JOB SKILLS!!!
@11:14 We shore do need a lot of them "TRANSEFFABLE" skills... :)
MARSHALL COUNTY has been living off the MDA teat for the past 5 years. The county does't put up the first damn dime for these projects and go running straight to Jackson for everybody else's $ EVERYTIME!
Feel and Tater think a warehouse or chicken plant job is some kind of fabulous career. Every state gets things like this.
But we have an offensive state flag. How could the PC police allow this?
A 'fulfillment center' fulfills customer orders. Sorta like the Levis Fulfillment Center in Gluckstadt. But you thought they made britches there, right. This center like the one in Gluckstadt is only a warehouse that ships (fulfills) stuff made in other countries when orders are received. Feel left out that part.
Companies don't locate in the boondocks where there is a limited workforce, no rail or highway system, no air system, zero community amenities and nothing to attract a management team, their spouses and children.
As of December 2018 (this month), Amazon has 139 distribution centers with 34 more announced. They also have over 500,000 employees.
So Mississippi getting one distribution center and 800 employees doesn't get us out of last place on the list of Amazon employees and distribution centers. This is really akin to doing a press release in the 1890s because Mississippi got a large post office.
And to think, we had to get MDA involved and offer incentives just to get this one!
All of the jobs "created" by Amazon replace merely a fraction of the jobs lost over the last decade in retail. Its just a shift in one distribution model to a different one. Nothing new create, just squeezing a bit of efficiency out of the chain, that's all. Congrats to Macon though.
Remember when Jackson did a big press conference to announce they are paving one road? Kind of the same thing.
The US Post office has lost almost 300,000 jobs since 2000, mainly due to companies like Amazon. No doubt Mississippi lost their fair share, so picking up a few Amazon warehouse workers is nice, but not exactly turning us into Silicon Valley.
https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/postal-history/employees-since-1926.pdf
10:17am, we're tired of subsidizing your choice to live in the middle of nowhere. The country and the world is becoming more Urban. Move or get left behind, the choice is yours.
This is great Mississippi is getting 800 jobs that pay about 31k a year. Louisana is getting two plants in 2019 with 2000 Jobs averaging 75k a year. If you are give them tax breaks at least get your monies worth.
Wait, did I read correctly that it took the MDA, the county of Marshall and the TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY getting involved just to get Amazon to open a warehouse down the road from the Memphis airport?
I suppose the land is much cheaper there than it is in Olive Branch. Watch out for those self driving cargo trucks!
So..to follow along on the post at 12:56, since there are 139 Distribution Centers and 34 more coming on line, this is either fake news or no news at all.
And since NAFTA and Trade Imbalances sucked away thousands of Mississippi Jobs over the past forty years, when we have a new company coming in with, say, 200 jobs, we have no reason to celebrate.
And after I lost 20 pounds in the past year, I need to just shut up about it since I gained 35 over the past four years.
Shit if that ain't some dumb thought-process right there!
What you lettuce-heads don't understand is the fact that we should celebrate gains instead of continuing to bitch about past losses.
1:24....yes, celebrate and have a party. We got our first warehouse. Out of 173, we got our first. Using taxpayer funded incentives. Go have a party.
If you gained 35 pounds over 4 years, you might have a disorder. But go ahead and celebrate with a buffet dinner. And do a press release about it. I assume 1:24 works at MDA.
do they stock cough syrup and breath mints? asking for a friend in politics..
I'm sure Innovate Mississippi will put the logo on their website and crow about how they helped yet another great tech company.
It's easy to see the politics here. I am happy for Mississippi. They put it there because of the proximity to Fed Ex, i'm sure. It's because of I69 probably. It's better than the center going to southern Tennessee or West Memphis. Haters, carry on.
Still waiting on Alexa to give me the winning lottery numbers.
Well that settles it. The Amazon Logo will be on the new state flag.
The internet sales tax that Amazon volunteered to collect for MS had nothing to do with this, I'm sure.
I will give all of my fellow Mississippians a little tip. 90% of the cheap garbage for sale on Amazon is available cheaper, straight from China on wish.com or aliexpress.com and their shipping is also subsidized by the US Post Office.
wish.com also sells a AR15 parts for 75% off the gun websites (cough...CTD) mark up and resell from China.
As far as wish.com, do a web search for "reviews wish.com" and you won't want to sign up. They are a Chicom (Chinese Commie) company.
Amazing that negative nabobs will always find a way to bitch about positive news. 800 jobs with a minimum start rate of fifteen bucks an hour (many will be higher) has got to be negative news. We really need 800 folks to remain on the unemployed or under-employed rolls don't we?
Who gives a rat's ass how many similar facilities exist in the country? What's that got to do with anything? Say it with me....NOTHING. Happily, the fact is, Mississippi landed this one and it will benefit the local economy and the standard of living of 800 households multiplied by three.

I bet the powers that be are patting themselves on the back for
"bringing" Amazon to MS. Paaaalease.
Hope they didn't give Amazon any tax breaks to come to MS. They would have done it anyways and I hate when a small business has to pay more in taxes than their larger competitors.
Alexa, how do you spell corporate welfare?
MDA, the county and the TN Valley Authority all ponied up on this one.
We don't need Amazon. Keep the unwashed masses on the welfare plantation. If the unemployed get jobs, then the social welfare bureaucrats won't have anything to do, and we can't have that, and the politicians won't have anyone to pander to.
Plus, if there is a fullfillment center in MS those Amazon packages might arrive sooner, and who wants that?
Let me guess, Haley called me and secured their work for ButlerSnowjob...
8:28 - What do you know about 'corporate welfare'? Do you know that all states offer incentives to prospective industries and that tax abatement and other such incentives have been standard practice for almost 80 years in this state?
You're just another frog mimicking the sound of other frogs you hear in the dark.
If they were bringing 800 jobs in the bigger side of their business (webservices) that would be *real* good news for this state.
Before anybody gets excited about having an Amazon fulfillment center in Mississippi please read up on the working conditions and deadlines that must be met while working there.
It is a harsh work environment and they bend the laws and rules of their own guidelines.
