Ward 1 City Council candidate Charles Barbour issued the following press release:
Charles Barbour to sign Taxpayer Protection Pledge
When: Monday, November 24th 10:00 AM
Where: Steps of Hinds County Chancery Court Building
(316 S. President St.)
Jackson – Ward
1 City Council Candidate Charles Barbour will sign a Taxpayer
Protection Pledge, vowing as Councilman to “oppose any and all efforts
to increase taxes.”
“I
am pleased to sign this pledge because it is wrong to ask the taxpayers
of Jackson to do more when their government has done so little,” said
Barbour. “I will also challenge my opponents to sign this pledge and
make a commitment to the hardworking men and women of our great city
that they will not raise taxes.”
Barbour’s
campaign says his opposition to tax increases has been clear for years
including throughout his eight years of service as a Hinds County
Supervisor in which he never voted for a tax hike. Barbour voted against
in excess of 30 tax increases while serving as supervisor.
Barbour is the former President of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors, a small business owner, and is a retired Mississippi Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel.
The Special Election will be held December 2nd to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Quentin Whitwell.
