Ridgeland Police confirmed that attorney Precious Martin was killed in a four-wheeler accident tonight in the Bridgewater subdivision. The four-wheeler flipped several times. His ten year-old son was injured and taken to UMMC. Chuck McRae just said on his Facebook page the son is on life support.
Update: Not much additional information. Accident took place in the neighborhood on asphalt. They tried to take a right turn and lost it. ATV was a Honda. Don't know the model number but it was the top one. Had a Civic transmission. RPD is doing accident reconstruction. Son is not on life support although he did suffer several broken bones.
Kingfish note: Our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends. He loved those boys and always talked about them on the radio. Pray for his son to make a full recovery. There is alot of heartache and suffering tonight. Pray for those who will need it in the coming days. He left behind three sons and his wife, Crystal. Don't know what else to write right now as I'm in just plain shock.

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

How sad.
May God have mercy on his soul. Prayers for his family and he has a child on the way that will never know him. So sad. It is fair to mention that now. Children are a blessing.
Two sons and two daughters. This is such sad news. I pray that Daniel makes a full recovery.
Wow.
It's the only pediatric ICU and the only Trauma Center in the state, so the boy couldn't be at a better place.
This is just tragic for the survivors. Speaking from family experience, this will haunt every Mother's Day for them forever. It's just awful for them.
Tragic ,,, very traumatic for his loved ones.
So very sad. I'm heartbroken for his family.
Is there any way to confirm the condition of his son? You know how rumors start flying, but I just heard the son is on life support? I pray this is not true:( My heart goes out to his family.
My prayer are with your family he was always nice to he use to like to talk to him
Heartbreaking for his wife and children. I pray for them, as well as his extended family.
Sad story.....My prayers shall rest with the family.
Can someone confirm for me is this man related to the triplets who are Lawyers as well, I think their names are Warren, Deshaun , and Kenya martin?
Rest in Peace Precious.. Shocked is the word... thoughts and prayers for the family and his son injured. I served his older son his first raw oyster two weeks ago.. and his younger declined my oyster. May he have bushels of them in the future or whatever he needs.
Prayer for the family
Due to HIPAA laws UMMC cannot release any information about a patient's condition. It will have to be released by the boy's mother.
Two sons and two daughters
Guess we'll never find out who is responsible for the Yarber attack ads now.**
The triplets are his younger brothers.
Yes, Precious was the older brother of triplet attorneys, Warren, Kenya and Deshun. How they loved and admired their big brother. Prayers going out to this family and to Crystal.
The Fall of the House of Bennie
Was he wearing a helmet?
Praying for the Martin Family.
I am praying for his family and children - politics, personal beliefs matter not now - all that matters is that we as a legal community lift up his family and children to God and pray they have strength and grace.
My son and Daniel played football together last Fall on the St. Andrew's 4th grade team. Precious came to a lot of practices (which started at 3:30) and never missed a game. He was a devoted father - I can say that without hesitation. And Daniel is a good kid. Such a tragedy.
There is a special place in hell for people like 5/12 @ 7:12 am. Celebrating a tragedy. Goodness.
My prayers are with this family! He was truly a family man and while I didn't agree with him at all politically, he was still a father, son, and community oriented person. People, please be careful on these ATVs. I had 3 blow pass me on a shoulder of a rural road and one almost was taken out by a tree, dust kicking up everywhere, as he was going so fast and that thing couldn't really stop on a dime like the driver tried to accomplish. Those rocks on that soft shoulder was going to throw him. No helmet, nothing protective on. I shuddered because I thought I would be witnessing a terrible accident.
Thank you Wilson for reminding us that he was a devoted dad and helped coach the football team. Our kids at at Andrews know Daniel and my child prayed for him last night. No matter what happened, I believe that Daniel and his family are loved and being lifted up in prayer by the St. Andrews community.
May his entire family feel God's arms around them and find comfort and feel His love and compasion. So very sorry for their loss.
Neither Mr. Martin or his son were wearing helmets. The 4th grade son had a broken collar bone and broken arms but unless something changed overnight should not be on life support as has been stated.
Talk about a bad deal. And on Mother's Day as well. I am praying for the family.
I deplore the very existence of these ATVs; the very term "all-terrain vehicle" is a misnomer. A steep hill, a lot of slippery clay mud,and BAM---over they go. The absence of helmets is deplorable, too, a tragically stupid omission of a basic safety practice, but (as with cyclists) the finest helmet in the world can't prevent a neck or back injury. I think ATVs should be outlawed, frankly. This unfortunate family learned a hard lesson a very hard way.
Didn't like his politics but had nothing against him as a man and a father. Praying for his injured son and the rest of his family. Cynics should withhold their comments out of consideration for his loved ones.
Let the canonization begin....
I live in Bridgewater and can't imagine where he was to go fast enough to flip several times...
Ophelia,
I own an ATV for off road use, primarily hunting on rural properties. The manual clearly states, and most ATV's have multiple stickers stating the ATV SHOULD NOT BE USED on paved roads and other hard surfaces. I have on occasion, had to go down a rural paved road. If you're speeding, going around a curve or switching from pavement to dirt at high speed, you can lose control very quickly. They are not intended for pavement. That being said, there isn't a device built by humans that hasn't been used for the purpose that it was not intended. I see people using ATV's on pavement all the time. That's no reason to ban them. It's a tool. Used incorrectly and you take your life into your own hands.
Somebody needs to ask Jimmy Houston where the hell his officers are on enforcement because yesterday wasn't close to being the first time ATVs were being driven around in Bridgewater. The accidents were waiting to happen and one sadly did with tragic results.
He also leaves behind a daughter. Very sad for this family. Many prayers and they go through this time.
Gimme a break 11:24. EVERY high end neighborhood in Ridgeland and Madison has ATV's and golf carts being driven around the subdivisions.
Bridgewater has a covenant against the operation of ATV's in the neighborhood, as do most neighborhoods in Madison County. If you want enforcement, people need to complaint to their HOA about it. I'm not sure if riding an ATV on public roads breaks any other law, but if it does then call the police when you see someone breaking the law. The few times I have seen an ATV being driven in my neighborhood, RPD was here within 15 minutes or less to tell the driver to park it in the driveway. This is to the extent that people have been busted for using golf carts on Halloween night.
Who's Stokes going to blame for this ... Honda?
Most ATV's are NOT equipped to be street legal. I have no idea if this one was. But, regardless, because people have horrible accidents on ATV's, we should ban them??? That's horribly irrational.
What a tragedy, and as noted, on Mother's Day. Those of us here in the Hattiesburg area were most familiar with Precious Martin through his role in the Johnny DuPree vs. Dave Ware election trial.
Riding an ATV without a helmet is so risky and can produce life-changing, and in this case, life-ending results.
I will be praying for his family, particularly his wife and his children.
We must enact meaningful ATV-control legislation.
Bridgewater HOA is toothless and spineless.
Pardon my bluntness, but we don't need ATV legislation. We don't need to ban them.
The piece of equipment did not do anything wrong or malfunction. It was used improperly.
Instead of legislative action or banning them, why doesn't this accident help to show that directions are included for a reason. If you choose to not follow them, sadly there are consequences. Doesn't matter if others were not following directions, doesn't make it ok. The folks who make them have said--hey, don't do this or you risk being injured. Blaming everything under the sun does not work.
atv fault, hoa fault, rpd fault.....not to be cruel, but how about the guy operating an atv on the street and obviously at excessive speed. give me a break - end of story.
If you choose not to have your police department patrol neighborhoods of privilege then sadly there are consequences. The ATVs being regularly driven for fun in Bridgewater weren't purchased yesterday morning.
I don't wear a helmet when I operate my ATV. I don't wear one in my car or when I drive my tractor, either. And my side-by-side ATV is a lot safer than a tractor. Regardless, I don't need someone making that decision for me that has never operated an ATV or relied upon one for work. If you don't like ATVs, then don't get in one. If you don't like riding in one without a helmet, then put your helmet on.
You can bet your sweet bippie that if RPD was regularly in Bridgewater chasing down ATVs that there would be screams of "Don't you guys have anything better to do? Go catch some real criminals." Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Personal responsibility!
How has this conversation deteriorated from comments honoring the family to an ATV debate? People are going to die, no matter how you put if. Fate has a way of straightening things out. Anyways, ATV's are more useful in more ways than 1. Whether or not you like it, precious was driving too fast late at night, without a helmet. How do I know? Because I love directly next door to where he died. Blame 4wheelers all you want, you egotistical know it alls. Get it together. I love how while a man is alive, this website can be filled with comments making fun of him and what not, but as soon as he dies it's instant sympathy along with blame shifted in all directions. Human nature is a strange thing.
ATV's are for off-road. Prayers for the family.
Where in Bridgewater did the accident happen?
Homeowner's Association rules and covenants have absolutely nothing to do with traffic control. ATVs are illegal on city and county streets and roads in this state, period. This has nothing to do with a homeowner's association.
As for 3:55; You don't get to manipulate or define the pathway of this discussion.
I've never heard of anyone getting a significant injury, much less killed on an ATV, unless more than one of the safety rules were violated.
Let's see:
1. Riding on pavement. Check.
2. Riding on public road. Check.
3. Riding 2 people. Check.
4. Rider under 16 years old. Check.
5. Riding without helmet?
6. Riding too fast for terrain?
Given the above, it was pretty predictable; not really an accident.
Six twenty-four, thank you for reprimanding the prisspot (3:55) who boringly whined about the "deterioration" of the "conversation"? Once enough, already, has been repeated *ad infinitum* about prayers and all, a segue into a related topic is as natural online as it would be in a live conversation. Topics are fluid. Don't like the direction a thread is going? Why, you are more than welcome to exit stage right and hush up. But don't sanctimoniously chide others for moving along to another discussion.
6:24, there is basically no law against riding ATV's on public streets in MS. Well, there is, but it is a joke. Of course there should be a better one.
http://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2014/05/12/lawmaker-atv-regulation-seen-freedom-issue/9021767/
My heart goes out on wings of love. Prayers, wafting silently, over the waters of time... RIP.
OK...
"Let's see:

I would have to agree with the above. And I, too, would like to know WHERE in Bilgewater this tragedy occurred.
To the right of the primary entrance, there's an area with a small Ken Tate mansion, in grimmer-than-his-usual colors. And further on into the woods, there's a Jo-David Rankin French Village of an estate home, with a big sign warning of infrared cameras, etc. Sort of across from there, I noticed a rather raw hilly area in the woods, and asked what was being constructed there. I got some sort of mumbled response, along the lines of "Well, that's best left unsaid...", and thought no more about it.
In retrospect, I have to wonder whether the 'Infrared Camera Warning' didn't have something to do with the raw red dirt trails gouged into the wooded ravine.
In Madison, they learned that if you stick blinkin' blue peacocks on top of your "home", a late-middle-aged reputed-swinger/TV"reporter" will (allegedly) launch a media blitz defending your blinkin' blue lights (while ignoring your other transgressions)... IF you're the RIGHT COLOR (not White).
I just have to wonder whether that same dynamic might be applied to unauthorized use of motorized vehicles within exclusive neighborhoods, by members of Protected Groups, who have already demonstrated a willingness to litigate. I am only wondering in a general sense, you understand, and am not wondering about any specific individuals.
12:28 - can it, dumbass.
If you know the details of the architecture of the neighborhood so well you undoubtedly know the teenager who found his body in front of her house, then stayed up til 3 am assisting the RPD with their investigation, then stayed home (from the school he was suing) the next day.
The rest of your vague, incomprehensible screed suggests your tin foil hat is wrapped too tight.
Any word of the kid's progress? There's a huge difference between "on life support" and several broken bones.
12:28 I heard on the local news the accident happened on Bridgeview Circle just a few yards from the Bridgewater Homeowners Club.
Right by the clubhouse. There are paint markings in front of the house. Was he on the lawn?
Thank you, 3:44, for your USEFUL input.
As for YOU, 3:44... If I were writing about "details of the architecture", I would be writing something like "...Candarian Pedicules surmounting the Trapunto Diaphragm with Brobdignagian verve."
However, in my above post, I was mostly relaying my impression of 'how big they are' and 'who made them that way'. I would imagine that only a truly pitiful person would consider such attributions, and descriptions of impressions, to be "architectural details".
But let us stop to consider this AMAZING passage from your post: "If you know the details of the architecture of the neighborhood so well you undoubtedly know the teenager who found his body in front of her house, then stayed up til 3 am assisting the RPD with their investigation, then stayed home (from the school he was suing) the next day."
You go on to describe my post as an "incomprehensible screed". I'm thinking you should know from "incomprehensible". I'm thinking you're maybe an expert. I had to look up 'screed'("A long and tedious passage.", per Google). Seven short paragraphs (including the quote) is something you consider long and tedious? I bet you didn't like school much, did you?
And for how long have you been itching to use that "tinfoil hat" thingie? Have you been waiting for a decade, maybe? (I mean, that's how long it's been since "tinfoil hat" became really a worn-out and lame thing to say...) Or, have you been sticking "tinfoil hat" into any online discourse in which you think it might possibly ALMOST fit?
But thank you for relaying your thoughts, as best you could.

I meant, in my 5:57 post, to say, "As for YOU, 3:35..."
Why does it matter where his broken body landed! The man is dead. It happened so fast he only had seconds before he was unconcious. Mistakes were made. Rich, poor, any race, any sex, any nationality....death doesn't discriminate. Use his death as a tool to keep you and yours safe. It's the least anyone can do. When someone dies tragically. ..we soon forget why. When a person lives and is permanently mamed in an accident, it's a living reminder to those around him of what happened, and if possible, to not put ourselves in a similar dangerous situation. Think about it.
Witness driving in neighborhood saw little boy driving and dad sitting on back not in seat
I heard the same. The 10yo was driving or sitting in dad's lap. But driving when accident happened as per witness. And it was dark outside at 8pm
That could explain 7:25 PM the accident markings in the WLBT clip showing an abrupt dive for the curb. Hard to believe an adult would have lost control like that.

Oh, MY! He was a "supporter of Jackson" and moved to RIDGELAND?
And Reporter David Kennedy thinks that the plural form of 'attorney' is 'attorney's'?
Who the hell is David Kennedy?

really proving your room temp IQ with your next two comments.
"There's no law against riding four wheelers on city streets. Well, there is....but..." Brilliant comment.
There IS a damned law against it. They are NOT street legal. They're dangerous enough off-road, but, they are flat ILLEGAL on Mississippi roadways. And we don't need the Clarion Ledger to tell us that.
KF, any updates? I heard Daniel is going home today or tomorrow. I'm sure the JA folks are rallying around the family. Prayers are needed. The accident looks like it happened around the corner from their home. Tough to drive by that everyday I'm sure. So sad.
What the heck is wrong with you all! Talking about ATV safety! A family has lost a husband, son, father, brother, and uncle! Not to mention, the legal community is mourning his death. Further, his fellow law school classmates are heartbroken! Have some compassion. This is not the time to talk about ATV safety. Not now!
1:28. Tell that to that to the Clarion Ledger. They exploited his death almost immediately with a full front page article on ATV safety.
I understand this tragedy warrants a discussion on ATV safety. It is really sad we can't all come together and lend support to the family, as well as, extended family and friends. Precious was a great guy. And, always there when you needed him. Crystal, as well. Where is the humanity?
ATV's are being discussed. Not everyone knew him like you. This is what some can discuss. There was a lot going on before this tragedy. This is a shock to many. This blog has discussed him before and is being very respectful.
4:10 - While I understand this is a conversation that needs to be had, I think the primary focus should be on Precious and his family. I don't think you all are mindful of the allegations of his son driving. If his son was driving, don't you think this tragedy will haunt him for the rest of his life. Yes, a conversation needs to be had... Just not now. I see that people are speaking positively about him. Somehow, the focus has shifted. I simply don't like it!
Feel free 4:29 PM to start your own gig and/or not read anything here if you are too disturbed.
4:29 are you new to this site? Any other discussion about him might not be respectful. Go back in the archives and see what was transpiring over the last few months. Would you rather we discuss his recent issues? And yes I am aware that the boy most likely was driving. There was plenty to haunt him happening before this accident. Don't try to act like you don't know what was happening to that family. We are not speaking I'll so let us talk about ATV's please.
I had been under the impression that the laws about not riding an ATV on public streets did not apply to private roads like those in gated communities like Bridgewater. It sounds like that is incorrect?
Gene McGee will be happy to learn that he doesn't need to maintain the infrastructure in Bridgewater. Thanks!
If the gates are locked during the day and require a code/remote to open, then my understanding is the HOA is responsible for street maintenance. At least that's what I remember hearing when my subdivision was kicking around the idea of gating. Of course that's assuming the folks on the "board" knew what they were talking about.
Bridgewater streets are maintained by the HOA at no cost to City. Bridgewater covenants address no ATV's. Ridgeland Police do patrol this community like any other neighborhood within City limits.

If the above post is in fact the case, Ridgeland police have neither the obligation nor the authority to enforce H.O.A. covenants.
Am I the only one noticing that Precious Martin's accident happened in front of a St Andrews families home. His body was found by and his son helped by a St Andrews student. Now look at his Obituary on Legacy.com. The picture was clearly taken at the St. Andrews lower school auditorium. The SA banner is in the background. Weird. The school he was suing. Just sayin
