The Ronny Lott for Chancery Clerk campaign issued the following press release.
PRESS RELEASE:
Ronny Lott for Chancery Clerk Madison County
May 30, 2014
From: Ronny Lott
Today, we are five days from the
June 3rd Primary election and my opponent David Overby still will
not come clean about his connection to a gentleman named “David K. Holbrook” or
how Holbrook’s name attached to Mr. Overby’s personal identity.
In media interviews and personal
appearances, Mr. Overby repeatedly has denied knowing a David Holbrook. In
response to the Madison County Journal, the Clarion-Ledger, and WJTV-12 News,
Mr. Overby has denied any connection to a David K. Holbrook. In a public forum
of the Madison County Bar Association, after being questioned about his Chapter
7 Bankruptcy, Mr. Overby responded, “I have always been David Overby not David
Holbrook.” He volunteered his explanation of how Holbrook’s name attached to
his own identity which was to say his son bought a house in Winchester, VA
where a “David Holbrook” had been a previous owner or resident and that he did
not know a David Holbrook. It has come to my knowledge that this simply is NOT
true.
Mr. Overby, while a resident of
Laurel, MS, had an acquaintance and personal relationship with David K.
Holbrook. He attended church with Mr. Holbrook and his family. David K.
Holbrook coached David Overby’s child in some type of youth sports.
I do not know nor have I spoken
to Mr. Holbrook but, I understand he has been contacted by some media sources
and confirmed his relationship with David Overby. So, why has David Overby
continued to deny any knowledge of any David Holbrook?
The voters deserve the truth
about this issue and why Mr. Overby’s memory lapses about this relationship and
his personal bankruptcy have not been explained.
Both of my opponents, Ford and
Overby, have accused me of “dirty politics” and “mud-slinging” which is simply
not the case. I have responded to factual reports and believe the voters need
to know the TRUTH. When did the truth become mud? Like Harry Truman said, "I
don't give them Hell. I just tell the truth about them and they think it's
Hell."
