Who should run for Mayor?

We will have a special election in the next 45-60 days or so.  Who do you think should run?  Should Harvey come back to offer some stability?  Does Lee want a rematch? Is Regina the choice of the Bennie Machine or is it Junior? Is there a dark horse candidate no one has? Yarber? Stokes? Interesting issue: Does a candidate offer his own platform or pledge to continue the legacy of Mayor Lumumba? Does John Horhn have a chance?  DeKeither?   Vote in the poll.

Lee should be the pick the groundwork is already laid for the plan he ran on implementing anyway. the only thing that held him out last election was my people perception of him not being a representative of them do to him bein affluent.

Jonathan Lee needs to run again!!! I would support him!!!

Lee is the obvious choice. I hope he runs. I think he would show some resolve by running again and would possibly gain support from some who didn't vote for him last time.

New strategy, not J. Lee, got to be another girl out there we can run...

Jonathan Lee and his supporters must have learned some lessons ten months ago. I hope they profit from the education. As for the others, Mel Priester would be my second choice; John Hohrn my last. Stokes is beneath comment. Hohrn reminds me of Ray Nagin in the respect that, as recent comments reflect, he was enamored of the ceremony and averse to the work. Priester has a great family circle, other than the fact that he was spoiled rotten. I'm counting on him to grow out of his self-worship.

An analysis by a wise old politician in Hinds County and City of Jackson that was a supporter of Mayor Lumumba:

Lee will never be able to take off his Rankin County Republican carpetbagger clothes. Nor can he tap NJax coffers following the revelation that he hundreds of thousands dollars of unpaid judgements against him.

Re the Stokes, Rita has her sites set on the "bench", and Big K loves his Sunday afternoon press conferences and he had rather fight with 3 instead of 7.

Harvey has moved to Madison and nobody wants to turn back the hands of time for that.

Priester will have the Bennie Machine.

Yarber will have the Aaron Banks Machine which we know managed Quinn into a 4th place finish.

Stamps, Calhoun and Graham are not interested in running.

Hohrn is still wishing he had accepted that ride home from JPD but don't see him getting one from a JPD assigned chauffeur.

Quinn endorsed Lumumba in the runoff with Lee and has worked along side the Mayor from the transition to the present. Quinn is credited with changing the Mayor's position on the tax referendum. True, I am a Quinn supporter and yes, Lumumba's vision for Jackson should be carried on and she is the most qualified candidate to do that.

It is sad that these young turks and the media, JJ included, have not given the Lumumba family the time and respect to deal with their loss before starting this jockeying for position.

What has Priester actually done? Nice educational resume. However, learnin' ain't the same as doin' and sounding like a Black Bill Buckley isn't a qualification. He's practiced a few years as a lawyer? What has he done? Can someone who me something? A few months on the city council.

Now his mom would be a good choice. Lawyer, understands finance, has class and dignity. Junior faces the same problem faced by Crisler: outclassed by his own family.

However, Bennie does like him.... and Bennie doesn't really care about merits, does he?

The same people who got behind Lee were the first apologists for the former Terrorist/Mayor once he was elected , whose phoney African name is too elusive to give a shit to try and learn to spell especially since he is dead, and capitulated to DonnerKay and the rest of the Fondren Liberal Episcopal crowd. Lets face facts, the Blacks in Jackson will vote for whoever doesn't have any white support as reparations no matter how fucking bad they are.

Harvey Johnson? Surprised if he runs. Still has formidable backing and an experienced political machine that can mobilize quickly. Would have very good ground game. Getting in will send his whitey haters into apoplexia. Should he sit out any candidate who gets his backing will get big boost. His team has long memories, are very loyal and know first-hand how to settle political scores. Harvey's machine will be energized and active for whomever they support though I doubt that would be Jonathan Lee. You simply don't run for Jackson Mayor 5 times -- win 3 of them -- then not have an influence in a city-wide election.

At commenter 1:16 what is the difference between Lee’s company debt and Quinn’s past bankruptcies? Lee was not supported because he had the support of whites and it' sad to say. Some Blacks are afraid of change and think voting Lee as Mayor in essence voting in the “MAN”. It is 2014 the time for that mentality needs to end. I’m black and a Lee supporter.

Tony Yarber? A thoughful fellow --(Kingfish has done insightful radio interviews with Yarber!)-- but no machine outside of his ward, no money and meager name recognition. Has the power to influence the election in So. Jackson with endorsement. Some people will remember and question his Trayvon Martin circus.

and entamsl said...

Melvin Priester, Jr? Can leverage father's name recognition. Highly intelligent but can be too big for his britches. Because of proximity and father's good vibes could do well in the four key voter rich NW Jackson precincts which are a huge get in a special election. Yet too new on the scene, too green, hasn't run city-wide, would be hard pressed to get out his vote where he really needed it to neutralize others. Can he quickly raise enough money to be effective? BUT is a good candidate on stump, can be personable, well spoken. Could be fast closing darkhorse with Harvey's machine behind him.

Jonathan Lee? No doubt a major force. Will gets LOTS of ready money and ready supply of motivated eager supporters. The sort of smart guy who will have learned a whole lot of Do's and Don't from last year. Won't repeat mistakes. BUT how in the hell does he shed his albatross as the lackey for the WPS in Jackson? The precinct level results tell the tale -- just as they did for Crisler -- and no amount of explaining around a WPS so monolithic in his corner makes it less so. Race will be a factor and whitey doesn't call the shots in Jackson. Not right but it is the reality. Lee must control the narrative about his white support with a different message than he used in '13. Also, some Lee supporters already claiming Lumumba's agenda was Lee's agenda. Asking voters to eat those sour grapes is a sure way to lose. Still, with the election so soon after Lumumba's passing it is hard to see how it doesn't come down to a repeat of 2013 for Lee.

Regina Quinn? If she receives the blessing of the Lumumba faction+team and if Harvey sits out IMO Regina defeats Lee to be the next Mayor of Jackson. Antar won't win and it would be foolish of Chokwe's backers to force him upon Jackson in order to retain control. Such a strong arm move would be very unlike Chokwe -- though very, very Bennie. Regina has appeal, has run city-wide, has name recognition, was a loyal hardworker for Chokwe after endorsing him, has Kim Wade's support and is non-threatening to the NE Jax whiteys. Regina represents the best chance to keep Chokwe's agenda intact as-is and moving forward.

The Stokes Buffet? Not a chance but it would be fun to watch either of them try.

De'Keither Stamps? Nope. Getting name mentioned (and included in a JJ poll!) will be the extent of his success even if he gets in the race. Belhaven voters will remember the BULLSHIT he's been pulling on Fortification.

Robert Graham? His name is only included in KF's poll for purely Jackassery purposes. Because he is a jackass.

Peggy Hobson-Calhoun? Unlikely to even run. Why would she now that she's got the power of the majority with her on the BOS? Stay there Peggy and get the Parkway done.

John Horhn? Nope, unless his signs his campaign papers skunked from a ditch with underaged girls in his car. If he throws in with all the skeletons that have been exposed since he ran in 2009 he should seek the help of a mental health professional.

Unnamed potential White Candidates? Fools, each and every one.

2013 showed us that Bennie has added Jackson to the territory of his plantation. Edwin Taliaferro was simply a replaceable cog in his machine. Think about it: If Bennie could engineer a win for a candidate like that, then he can do it for anyone. Therefore, the whole city is gone. Jackson needed the early passing of an elected official, but it wasn't the passing of Taliaferro that it needed. The wage earners of Jackson need to evacuate before it's too late!

Anonymous said...

At this time I see that Lieutenant Robert Graham of the Jackson Police Department has four votes in your poll.

That would be Graham, his wife, Stowers and Hargrove.

Carry on.

Anonymous said...

Regina Quinn, the only reason she came in 4th was because the race was too crowded. Harvey voters may swing her way, chokwe voters will swing her way and she got voters on her own so with the right endorsements,(Antar, Bennie) she will get the nod.

Watched the last mayoral debate on TV and quite frankly it was an embarrassment. At least Lumumba was articulate and seemed to be in control. Don't see the love for Lee, he said he was in favor of the commuter tax...a pro-business idea (really) and then Ms Quinn who said several times we all need more love. Ms. Quinn, how about telling that to those hoodies who continue to pull guns on tax paying citizens.

Lets at least consider some diversity in the pool of candidates and who knows maybe someone will jump out. At least that is what I keep being told when I try to hire someone.

1:16 pm says
Lumumba's vision for Jackson should be carried on

You sir, are not a "wise". Perhaps you should grab a dusty old dictionary and figure out what that word is supposed to mean in the context of your usage.

The tax increase was NOT a good idea. At some point black people will figure out that they can't tax themselves up in socio-economic standing. This has become a nation of taxes where the middle class loses 50% of it's income to various government taxes and fees.

Mayor Lumumba's "vision", is still a spit on the values that created this country and a travesty that he used such a name as Martin Luther King, Jr. to espouse those values. Equality is not superiority. This is not a democracy, nor would any intelligent black person want it to be so. A democracy is majority rule, mob rule and discounts the rule of law and individual freedom.

The black populace has been sold a bill of goods that some individuals have taken the opportunity to sell as snake oil. They are just the middle men making a buck, though. LBJ put it very clearly that winning the black vote for Democrats (irony if you know history) through giving them just enough to appease them would keep the progressive Democrats in power and control.

If you are a politician, you are a part of the problem. Anyone that espouses elected public services will do whatever to get elected and that makes them whores to ideology. If you have enough poor, then those whores can sell the treasury. That's the vision of reparations that you state should be carried on.

Remove your color filter and hitch your wagons to people who don't sell you that government is the answer to all your problems. Then you can find the freedom you, collectively, state you desire.

Lee will never win with newspaper and radio ads with his picture between Haley Barbour's and Mitt Romney's. To a majority of black Jackson municipal voters, he is the white man's boy. Never gonna happen...

Anonymous said...

Chockwe made hate sell. The next mayor will have to show that he/she can hate white people with as much vigor as Chockwe.

Look for ads depicting Jeff Good getting hit by a bus. Trains running over Speeds. Planes landing and exploding on all things Eastover. And lastly, Chockwe being buried near the as yet to be found gas line running through a dead development known as "The District."

Whitwell? What kind of grass are you folks smoking??

Regina has already been bought and paid for by the Lumumba folks (paid off her extensive campaign debt in exchange for her support in runoff). She will probably have support of most of Lumumba staff, although they will have to get registered to vote in Jackson to be of help at the polls.

Yarber has no name ID; hard to overcome in short timeframe.

Lee has large name ID, but don't know how he gets any increase in black vote over last election.

Priester is Bennie's boy - which is going to create a little conflict with the entrenched folks around Lumumba. They are going to throw in with Quinn, so there might be a split in the 'force'.

Harvey - almost as laughable as Whitwell. Almost.

Doesn't leave much. Guess LaRita is going to have to give up desire for the bench! Or maybe she can take lesson from O'Hara and run for mayor and judge at the same time.

BTW - good post GB at 1:16. Try to slam them all while taking care of your girl.

MEMO TO ANY POTENTIAL CANDIDATE

The Jackson Free Press endorsement won't help you at the polls.

"Partners" Donna Ladd and Todd Stauffer can't move the electoral needle in your favor in any single precinct. Not one. Not anywhere in Jackson. Not even their own in Belhaven.

The Jackson Free Press interview will give your opponents fodder to use against you in the campaign.

Don't buy Donna Ladd's claptrap about needing an interview and any summons to meet with their "Editorial Board" considering the overblown and overvalued "JFP Endorsement".

Because it is all pure crap. You'll win more net votes walking a precinct, any given precinct, than you will wasting your time with the JFP.

I had hopes for Regina Quinn. She SEEMED intelligent, well-spoken with leadership abilities.
It seems the minute she lost to CL she went on record endorsing him saying she shared his political beliefs and visions for Jackson.
I began wondering if she had been planted in the election to dilute the votes that would have, perhaps, gone to another top candidate, giving CL a better opportunity to become mayor.
This is just something that has me wondering if she was/is just a puppet in the grand scheme.
Can she be trusted?
Well, can ANY candidate be trusted, for that matter. Sad state of affairs...

This site needs to stop mentioning the Jackson Free Press. Its so 2006. They haven't been relevant since that time and seems pointless to keep attacking Donna Ladd and her gimp Todd. Yeah and I see the confederate flag being a traitor flag that wanted to over throw the United States of America and went so far as to create their own money "confederate currency" with slaves on the dollars. Did not the Confederate States of America kill Americans? To think this state values the confederate flag over the US flag has some sort of moral authority.

I must admit trailer park, confederate flag loving folk often do receive welfare but that is probably because books need to be read.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
