Smearing and trying to rob Howard Ballou and his family didn't work. Now the no-good for nothing sons of Dr. Martin Luther King are at it again. They want to sell their father's Nobel Peace Prize and Bible. You read that correctly. The AP reports:
The estate of Martin Luther King Jr. is asking a judge to force the civil rights icon's daughter to relinquish her father's Nobel Peace Prize and his Bible.Statement of Bernice King.
The complaint against Bernice King was filed Friday in an Atlanta court by her father's estate, which is controlled by her brothers, Martin Luther King III and Dexter King.
The lawsuit said Martin Luther King Jr.'s heirs in 1995 assigned their rights to property inherited from the civil rights icon to the Estate of Martin Luther King Jr. Inc. The lawsuit said Bernice King has "secreted and sequestered" the medal and Bible in violation of that agreement.
"Although these items have been under my care and custody for the past few years, they have remained in a safe and secure location since my father's assassination, and my mother's death in 2006," said Bernice King in a statement. "After I refused to immediately transfer these items to another location at their request, consequently on January 31 my brothers through The Estate of Martin L. King, Jr., Inc filed a lawsuit {Civil Action No. 2014cv241929} to force me to turn these items over for the express purpose of selling them. In my opinion, there is no justification for selling either of these sacred items. They are priceless and should never be exchanged for money in the marketplace."
Bernice King said in a statement that her brothers want to sell the medal and Bible to a private buyer and that she opposes that.
"While I love my brothers dearly, this latest decision by them is extremely troubling. Not only am I appalled and utterly ashamed, I am frankly disappointed that they would even entertain the thought of selling these precious items. It reveals a desperation beyond comprehension. As Mark 8:36 teaches, 'For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?' Our Father MUST be turning in his grave," said Bernice King in a written statement....

Going to be a shooting over this!!! LOL
Don't these items belong to the family?
4:32 Um, this IS his family fighting over the inheritance.
Just absurd. I hope Bernice wins this.
Sad that MLK's spirit didn't even last one generation (but for the daughter, apparently). Well at least we have his proteges, like the intelligent and respectable Jesse Jackson to carry on the legacy. I'm sure that Jesse would be opposed to the sale of these items without getting his cut...I feel certain that MLK has been spinning in his grave for a while...
Surely the free enterprise-loving conservatives on this site believe that a family is entitled to sell possessions that they have inherited? Can anyone explain why they shouldn't be allowed to do so?
No one should sale the family Bible. The medal could be on display at a museum in honor of Dr. King, but his Bible. I would be greatly upset if something happened to my family Bibles. My late husband's family Bible dates back to the late 1800's. It's all about the money, what a shame.
@ 11:58:
So we can assume then that you would have no issue with someone (the government) telling you that you can't sell your house or your other property because it has historical value? Private property rights are the foundation of conservative principles.
Well, his dream came true: his four little children are being judged by the content of their character.
Boom, Great comment.
I don't think anyone gives a rat's a** what happens to his junk 10:40 AM. The big difference between us "enterprise-loving conservatives" and you is what happens to the money from sale of said Bible and medal.
@2:28
What business is it of yours what they do with their money? Conservative my ass.
Its their private property. They can do with it as they see fit. Period.
We also have the first amendment that gives us the right to say what we think about selling such things or their behavior.
That's what I said at 4:32 yesterday.
