Gene Taylor and Travis Childers qualified. Time to have some fun. Gene is also a GOPer now.
Update: Ricky Cole just issued the following press release:
Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Rickey Cole issued the following statement:
"We are pleased to announce that Congressman Travis
Childers has filed his Statement of Intent for the Democratic Nomination
in this year's United States Senate election. Travis Childers is a
lifelong Democrat, and has served with distinction as a Democratic
executive committee member, Democratic county official, and as a
Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives. We look forward
to the campaign."

Thank you Chris McDaniel!
Mr. Taylor will be going to Washington again. Yes!
2:14, you are a sad fool. But, pretty much in line with exactly what the problem is with Cochran----too much like a democrat. you know, cause its got to be somebody else's fault cause it aint mine!
I said I wouldn't vote in the Republican primary, but I will now! My vote is for McDaniel, because he gives Childers the best chance of being elected Senator!
Thank You Senator Cochran! For trying to stay when you are no longer wanted so the establishment can back door a chosen one into the seat rather than let the voters decide. After the despicable behavior by the Cochran supporters I would vote for Kenny Stokes wearing a dress and big ass hat for the Senate before I wasted a vote for Thad.
Good job Tea Party. You put another Senate seat in play that shouldn't be. With enemies like you, Harry Reid doesn't need friends.
I hope Childers can win the nomination without any votes, because every Democrat will be voting for McDaniel in the primary.
(That btw is why I'm not a fan of open primaries, tho I also think the state shouldn't participate in them; if a political party wants its members to tap a candidate, why should non-members be involved, and why should the taxpayers fund it? But while my taxes pay for the primary, I'll vote in it.)
The seat is in play because Cochran won't retire. Not because someone with principles and a backbone decided to run.
Gene Taylor would a welcomed addition by bringing a touch of sanity.
4:32 - you have a point there.
Taylor is a democrat...now and forever, no matter what his registration may be now
Taylor is an actual statesman. I know they are so rare that people don't believe they exist and just reflexively label "D" or "R" to prevent actual independent thought. BUT it's worth the effort, try it.
In an eyeball-to-eyeball conversation with Gene Taylor in Hattiesburg, Gene told me that his foreign policy advisor was Richard Armitage...deputy Secretary of State under Colin Powell, and alleged to have been involved in the CIA-sanctioned drug running ops in the "Golden Triangle" during the Vietnam war.
This probably explains why Anderson wants Gene Back in the Saddle, again.
Richard Armitage is a POS. HE LEAKED THE Valerie Plame info and was zero charged with a crime. POS just like that liberal True democrat Taylor.
Gene Taylor didn't do well when facing voter questions at townhall meetings. He has that Bob Dole-like "chip on his shoulder."
Howard Stern interviews Bob Dole.
Dole:Janet Reno looks like she ran out of money halfway through a sex-change operation.
I doubt if any of these people could give a straight answer because they either don't know, haven't placed themselves in a position to know, don't have all the facts or cant read a crystal ball. Big government aint going nowhere. Pork barrel spending, taxes, laws and regulations among other issues are on the books. Legislatures view themselves above the crowd, financial and legal experts, and keepers of the fold. None of Cochran's opponents can work the crowd like he does.
Id by chance Thad loses, I will hold my nose and vote for Democrat Childers. If there is a choice between a Democrat and a tea bagger, the Democrat will get my vote. Tea baggers are a crazy group, shut down the government if they don't get their way. Dang, like a group of spoiled kids. They want freedom yet they do not want freedom to marry who you want, or freedom for a woman to choose whether to give birth or not, or freedom to worship or not worship the god/gods of your choice. Tea baggers only want the freedom that they give you.
What is keeping McDaniel from hiring his own team of foreign and domestic policies advisors, outside Barbour/Lott, Hill&Knowlton and the Beltway Think Tanks?
Is it in the best interests of the US that a Tony Lake,a Zbignew Brzezinski,a Robert Kagan,a David Axelrod,a Douglas Feith,a Rahm Emanuel,a Paul Wolfowitz or a Richard Armitage whispers into our congressmen's ears, drawing us into more proxy wars and "foreign entanglements" for someone's "favored" nation?
I'm reminded of the story my grandfather told me of the South Mississippi timber baron, WSF Tatum, who appeared before the ICC/PSC for authority to purchase a railroad line from the GM&O RR, back in 1925. The condescending high commissioner asked him if he knew anything about running a railroad. The commissioner was taken aback when Tatum, stroking his long beard, replied ",No, sir! But I can hire someone that does!"
3:29 They can't help it. God tells them what to do. They converse with Him and He only converses with them. The rest of us are lost. Haven't you heard?
All of the above posts are both comical and irrelevant, with the exception of Pugnatious, whose posts are always idiotic and imposible to decipher.

If that's you Anderson, read
Meron Benveisti's Sacred Landscape and name the REAL $22,000,000,000 "rogue state." Shame on you...and you were a humanities major before becoming a lawyer?
Don't mess with Mother Russia.
I will either vote for McDaniel or not vote; most likely will not vote. Right now, there is no difference between Dems and Reps in Washington. We need true conservatives. Our Senator Cochran has sent money to Mississippi through his appropriations position; however, at this point, a trillion dollars in Mississippi will not help us if the country goes to hell. All the Senators are working the same way; grab what they can for their State while the Country goes down the toilet. Stupid!
8:35 - if your 'analysis' of Taylor was accurate, he would be running as an Independent - not changing parties and running as a Repub! Taylor is nothing more than an opportunistic politician that can't stand that he got beat.
He claims (HA, 3/1) that he was running as a Republican because the state and his district had changed. Didn't say anything about him changing - just the politics of his district. Speaks tons about his 'statesmanship'.
Give it up on his "statesmanship" - he is nothing but a hard-headed asshole that can't stand the fact that he got beat!
I think the funniest thing in the way this has played out so far is that Mississippi will be getting a conservative Senator no matter who wins. Travis Childers says he's a Democrat, and I believe him based on how he ran the first time, but he's trying to convince the voters that he's as much like the Republicans as he can be. Pro-business, pro-gun, pro-life...I can't wait for him to start talking about the cuts to social programs and how he'd boost the defense budget. Taylor isn't going to try to act like a Republican, he's going to just become one. Democrats, where is your shame? How is it that so many of you bray on about how bad the Republicans are, yet when it comes to running for office you can't find anyone any different than us? I guess a true liberal Republican is as rare in Mississippi as someone who can't get voter ID.
One more thing...for the ones of you who are saying that they might not vote in the general election if the right candidate doesn't win, shame on you. It's our duty as Americans to vote every time the poll is open, and to select the candidate who we believe would do the best job, even if you have to hold your nose to do it. If any of you call yourself Republicans and have joined in on how bad things are and how we need to capture a majority in the Senate, then shame on you too if you are going to consider anyone other than the Republican nominee in the general election. We have to keep our eye on the prize, and a Republican who you don't like will be a better choice than the Democrat you do if you're serious about the Republicans being in the majority.
I used to say I was Republican (during the Reagan Era) but not anymore. McCain and other RINOs have seen to that. I'm conservative and a constitutionalist. I hope people will remember that little document that provides for individual rights. Not the rights of just businesses, or just minorities or just rich people, but every individual citizen. The Republicans of today have sold their souls to big business.
Don't lecture people on their duty to vote. I think it is a much more principled position to refuse to vote for someone you do not support than to vote for someone just because you are a party voter. Votes are a precious commodity. Field a candidate worth voting for and you get my vote. Otherwise, I'm sitting at home on election day.
I don't like the current state of political candidates any more than you do, 9:58, and have said about a thousand times that all 535 members of Congress should be replaced. However, the voters can't control who files paperwork to run for office. The only thing we can control is who wins the election. It always boils down to two candidates, and you are always able to determine who you like best even when you don't really like either candidate. Copping out and staying home is a lazy way of clearing your conscience so you can complain no matter who's elected.
With all due respect, 8:44 AM, when the 2 candidates do not represent me, then I will not vote for them.
It is MY vote and I will cast it in a way that is true and honest to my values.
If you whine about 'your guy' loosing because people wouldn't get behind him, then perhaps its time FOR YOU to re-examine who you are putting before us in the first place. You do not win when your sales technique is--oh, but he's the lesser of 2 evils. Why do you expect me to stand up and vote for that?
