Presenting the other health care proposals

The President and his followers like to use the common refrain "Where is the Republican health care plan" whenever Obamacare is criticized. I wrote a few days ago on this website I was going to start posting conservative health care plans offered up over the last few years.  Here is the first one.  We are going to start with the plan proffered by Senator John McCain during his 2008 presidential campaign.

I'm not going to read them all and expound on them for you but I will post one every few days for a couple of weeks.  Feel free to criticize them. The McCain plan relied primarily on tax credits (not to be confused with tax deductions) although the amount of the credits was probably too low.   This plan has been regurgitated by various congressmen and policy groups since 2008. Fortune magazine support this plan at the time.

Well why did the Repubs not offer any of these this time?

So let's see, here we have a plan that would cause many tens of millions of Americans to lose their current plans by ending employer tax incentives, advocates tax credits to encourage the purchase of individual coverage on the open market, provides no actual concrete details on dealing with preexisting conditions, and supports the expansion of low-premium, high-deductible plans. In other words, it's got most of what conservatives dislike about Obamacare, except for the individual mandate (and the "Obama" part).

I suppose it's technically "a plan", though, and that you did not actually specify it had to be a GOOD plan.

Look on the bright side EAB. It is only going to take 51 votes in the next Senate to override a Presidential veto of the Obamacare repeal now that Harry has let the cat out of the bag!

@4:53 Harry Reid did not let any GOP plan come up for a vote kinda like he wouldn't allow a vote on the budget for 4 years. Harry runs the senate so what he says goes.

So...I lose my employer sponsored health care plan...for which I pay a portion (at least) of the cost...for which my EMPLOYER got the tax break...and in its place, I get the opportunity to buy whatever coverage is best for ME and and the tax credit comes to ME to offset the cost, or, at least, a portion of it. Sounds to me like I come out even...or maybe even ahead of the game. Where's the problem???

Well the problem, of course, 6:10 PM is that you don't know what is best for you, yourself. You are simple not capable of making decisions in your best interest.

Senator McCain lost the 2008 Presidential election because the American people voted in the President, just as they did again in 2012. Why waste time talking about some defeated candidate's health care plan? The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land and is going nowhere. It amazes me how some people can't seem to accept this reality. It's time to move on.

What reality? A law that was enacted before lawmakers even knew want it contained? Remember, they had to pass the bill before they could know what was in it (Pelosi). A law that was sold as not affecting you if you already have health insurance and like it? (Obama) It has been an utter failure in every aspect.

Why accept failure?

It has nothing to do with healthcare. It's a financial and informational grab. It's insurance, not healthcare.

It's a social experiment aligned at removing another liberty for the "common good". Forcing individuals to purchase something they might not have otherwise purchased on the statistical chance they might utilize the healthcare system and not be able to afford it. Instead of creating safety nets for those types of needs, it's a corral for everyone and forces them into the same pen.

Not the idea of freedom, liberty that this country was founded and supposedly exists on.

So, forgive those that don't take your ignorant attitude and align the efficacy of an idea with a popularity contest as if the idea was the basis for votes in the contest.

There are a myriad of immigration laws on the books that are purposefully not being enforced but those laws are "the law of the land". Everytime I hear someone use that phrase in defense of Obamacare I immediately recognize that I'm dealing with the brain dead.

The McCain plan has some of the necessary working parts of a national health plan with the price transparency, technology, coordination of care, etc. The promise of 'federalism' with over $200B new money has parallels to ACA. The difficulty would still be to get the state insurance commissioners, agents, companies, and providers to bend to unknowns.
Unknowns being loss of current utilization rates, new payment systems, reporting requirements, new clienteles, health benchmarks, treatment teams, hospital policy shifts, etc. In short, the same difficulties that Obamacare is confronting now.

Here's the problem...
The current plan was supposed to have state involvement ( the exchanges). It , too, was supposed to increase competition in the healthcare/insurance market and the employer tax credit was shifted to a penalty.
The problems with Obamacare is much the same as what is presented above...it sounded good in generalities but for any plan , it is the SPECIFICS of how it's implemented.

And, the McCain plan is again, employer based.

You are not erasing the burden to the system of caring for the uninsured or inadequately insured.

There's no mention of dealing with ceilings and pre-existing conditions ( some of which occurred with job change or change in marital status).

I am NOT interested in how we got to this mess or who's to blame.

I want those of you who want to just erase Obamacare by overriding a veto to THINK and tell me what will be the consequences to having NO system or sets of laws on the books to replace it?

I'm all for looking at any and all previous differences in past GOP plans though I suspect they aren't all that far off from Dole's first plan or what Romney did in MASS.

The thing is the GOP should be looking at specific modifications in what we are currently stuck with having. Or, you can replace it with a plan AS detailed in implementation.

The problem IS that the Democrats didn't think about consequences and implementation and to my horror, neither is the GOP!

The troll wants y'all to "THINK". ROFLMAO

Yes...no doubt thinking rather than reacting in political goose step is harder and not the stuff of websites.

Is " troll" the new word for " patriot" as some of us actually care more about the well being of our Nation than in having our political egos stroked!

Obama and the Democrats have said for years the Republicans and conservatives had no plan. Had nothing to offer. So I'm calling the bluff and posting them. You can't have it both ways, say there were no other plans offered by opposition and then say don't present them because Obamacare is the law of the land.

1) "I want those of you who want to just erase Obamacare by overriding a veto to THINK and tell me what will be the consequences to having NO system or sets of laws on the books to replace it?"

Uh, we'd return to a system where 85% of the people were satisfied with their health care situation? Not perfect, but not the disaster that is heading our way.

2) "Well the problem, of course, 6:10 PM is that you don't know what is best for you, yourself. You are simple not capable of making decisions in your best interest."

I hope you forget the tag or the smiley face to indicate this was high sarcasm. OTOH you may be a deadly serious Democrat who does believe no one is capable of making decisions in his or her own best interest.

3) "The Affordable Care Act is the law of the land and is going nowhere. It amazes me how some people can't seem to accept this reality. It's time to move on."

I agree the ACA is going nowwhere, but probably not in the way you intended to say it.

As far as this Law of the Land BS - it's even harder to pass a Consitutional Amendment than a law, yet people didn't accept that it was "time to move on" after Prohibition became a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT, and fortunately the 21st Amendment was passed.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
