WLBT broadcast a very good report on SLRP last night. SLRP, the special retirement plan for legislators. Watch the video below.
There is currently over $13 million in the SLRP account. The monthly amount paid to beneficiaries is not that much- the average payment is less than $500 per month. However there is no reason whatsoever they should receive extra-retirement pay. Forest Thigpen is right: Close out the program and pay the contractually retired benefits. Earlier post on SLRP.

Glad to see Forest make it off the Shire and onto the television.
This and the troopers special account need to go.
Mediocre coverage at best, revealing nothing not already known and nothing not on the minds of all state employees, I'm sure. But, coverage that needs to be aired from time to time. It's not been aired on television to that degree for many years that I recall.
What speaks more loudly than anything else surrounding the issue is Holland's as-usual, in your face, kiss my ass attitude. But then, that's his attitude about everything. And his silly notion that 'it's not that bigga deal' reminds me of the promise we used to make in high school... ~ "I promise not to put it in all the way".
Shadow, ewwww!
Legislators should not be given any form of retirement. NOTHING.
The phrase Rita Martinson popularized was "We didn't know that was in the bill and hadn't really read it."
But, Holland sums it up best when he quotes his mentor, Capps..."We work real hard up in here."
What happens when a talking head (Linda Allen) marries a talking head (Phillip Ley, MD)? One can only imagine that WJTV would go completely pink (JFP)...
Phillip Ley, the guy that cut my Dad's guts out? What do you have to say? I am interested.
What the HELL?........
