WLBT airs video of thugs dragging purse snatching victim

Here is the rest of the story as reported on this site last week. By the way, the restaurant had no security in the parking lot.

Note: For some reason the video does not appear on the JJ home page. Click on the title of the post and it will appear.

Was that her husband/escort running after the car? It's a shame he wasn't armed.

Kingfish said...

Husband.

I hope we're not going to get to the point where restaurants and other businesses must provide security to avoid legal liability for criminal acts committed by others.

Kingfish said...

I hope not either and I don't advocate such liability. However, I see nothing wrong with pointing it out either.

Anonymous said...

Looks like they might have a shot at pulling up the plate. Glad they have security cameras and know the make.

Bert said " A" and " The" purse snatcher so a car full of people or just one? Do we know?

Don't know why the color of the car is in doubt.

Kingfish said...

It was not exaggerated and I don't care what Bert Case says, it was a thousand feet. One of the family members measured it and was quite clear and adamant about the length.

Paul Mitchell said...

How is the victim?

And wonder what her PERCEPTION is of crime in Jackson? And especially in the Fondren area?

Kingfish said...

Exactly. Some of the comments last week were disgusting and were clearly out to blame the victim. We can figure out which crowd was responsible for that one, can't we?

Paul Mitchell said...

Do you mean the Johnson Administration or DonnerK's peaceful-lovey-huggy-KLAN?

I am utterly shocked that anyone would blame the victim. Shocked.

Kingfish said...

For some reason this comment at 11:13 AM is not appearing:

No one doubted the story 9:31 and I think you meant " confirmed" except the email didn't give important details like the make or color of the car and slightly exaggerated minor details like how far the poor victim was dragged and omitted that the restaurant has security cameras that made a frightening event more frightening.
That is a common, understandable problem when well intentioned emails go out based on what the writer has been told. anonymous

Paul Mitchell said...

Kingfish, how would security cameras make getting dragged by a car while getting mugged less frightening?

My point, what the Hell difference does that make to the victim of any violent crime?

Lisa said...

Wow. That is really scary. She's very lucky her injuries were minor. I'm sure the emotional scars will take a long time to heal. The sad thing is the City will probably do nothing to these thugs.

Anonymous said...

Bert (or JPD) must have measured the 500 feet just in the parking lot and did not consider that the car left the parking lot and headed north on State Street. Also, as far as the husband not being armed,an FBI agent has reviewed this and has the opinion that if the husband had fired a shot his wife would probably have been killed by these thugs. Unless you walk around in the the parking lots with guns drawn you can't react quickly enough to stop this kind of stuff. Of course, it just might come to that.

Rebekah said...

Unless you are James Bond, there is no way a gun would have helped this situation. This video makes me so angry. There is no respect for human life anymore. These waste of skin thugs would have easily killed her and wouldn't have given it a second thought about it...they could have easily ran her over and would have kept going-without guilt.
I know we need these videos to try and profile these bastards, but I wish I hadn't have seen it...She will never forget this and neither will her husband. It doesn't matter if it was 5 feet, 500, or 1,000....the details just glorify the incident. The fact is that it happened and nothing has been done about it. The thugs probably watched this last night on their stolen tv and laughed about it while passing around a joint.

It is a shame that WLBT even uses the word 'purse snatcher'

How about violent assault.

There is never a time to NOT be armed. Never. There are certainly times to not use your firearm, though.

Here's another one for the "crime happens everywhere" crowd. Cary Hudson, probably the best musician in the state, was to play 119 Underground Saturday night.

As he waited outside a friend's house in (wait for it) BELLHAVEN, a black male snuck up on him, put a pistol to his head, and relieved him of his wallet and phone.

Now come on, you apologist p*ssies. Tell me how this could have easily happened in Flowood and Madison.

Tell me how much you love the "character" of the houses in your ghetto.

You people deserve whatever you get. Fools.

Yeah, put 9 mm to a home owner's head ... ( while he sits on a porch)... in peaceful "Belhhaven/Fondren" ...only to jack a damn cell phone.

jacksons smart alternative.....you mean the JFP (Jackson Far-left Proletariet). no mention of any of this so far that I can see on that site.

While republican conservatives give the rich tax breaks...jackson's unfortunate black youth have to resort to purse snatching to survive, not aware they dragged young woman along after trying to get some money to meet their needs. how's that..?

God bless this poor woman and her husband. She is lucky. I understand that she will be OK?

KaptKangaroo said...

I'm not going to over-criticize my point here, buuuut....

The local media held off on reporting a report a brazen pair? single individual? who ever? who was willing to drag a person across a parking lot and not give a damn about human life during the most trafficked time (i.e. holidays) because WHY?

It appears to me that the local media is no better than the protectors of the community rag.

When are we going to realize, lets clean up Jackson by knowing the problems instead of continuing to bury our heads in the sand. I would rather post police in high traffic areas that create economy than deny the need. If you want to argue, fine, proceed at your own risk after dark.

Anonymous said...

GEEZ... sorry if it feels somewhat less frightening to know that with security cameras, the a**holes might be caught. Sorry if one thug seems better than a carload.

Nobody is blaming the victim. Nobody is saying this wasn't bad.
But, I'm not about to let some illiterate thugs run me out and STILL the only time a crime has been committed where I was the victim was by white guys in Pearl who stole my cell phone and white guys in Madison who robbed my outdoor storage room.

KF, you printed the SAME email I got personally but mine wasn't from a " family member". I guess mine was copied and pasted.
But, I got it...all violent criminals are Black and all white folks are good. Just didn't know about the white murderers family trees.

Kingfish said...

I confirmed the email. People did come on this site blaming the victim. Said some pretty awful things that were a smear on the victim, in effect, blaming the victim. was pretty outrageous and I zapped the comments.

Paul Mitchell said...

It would FEEL less frightening if those security cameras shot lasers.

Of course, they would be racists, too.

Anonymous said...

Wonder why it took so long to get that on tv? I hope they catch them as soon as possible, that could have been more tragic than it was. Hope the husband got the tag number as he was chasing the car. Noticed they are warning people not to leave their cars warming up and not being in them, that people are stealing them.

Anonymous said...

This was a horrible criminal act.
I heard in the last couple of months about a pretty scary incident at a theatre in Madison, but it didn't get reported or emailed...just whispered about. Nothing was in KFs crime stats about it. I looked.
How one assumes crime isn't a concern to " liberals" ( especially since most crime is black on black and I believe it was that awful Clinton who pumped up police depts and crime stats went down) or Harvey Johnson's fault (do mayors want to fail?) or how that crime happens makes everyone who lives in Jackson a fool, seems a bit of an hysterical overreaction to me. Nor can I see how abandoning Jackson is somehow going to accomplish something good for Mississippi.
No one was suggesting everyone move from Rankin and pull their children out of school after the school massacre several years ago.
Even the affluent white community has had some pretty awful criminals of late posted about on this very site...one in rural DeSoto.
I could argue that everyone should move out of parts of Madison and Rankin because some areas of both are tornado alleys. But, that's a risk you get to assume. Life is full of trade offs.
Everybody just calm down.

Paul Mitchell said...

The reason everyone says that crime is not a concern of liberals is because liberals do not want to punish criminals. Ever wonder why crime is the most rampant in the liberal areas of the country? It could be because the first order of liberal crime fighting is to disarm the law-abiding citizenry.

To attribute the decrease in crime while Bill Clinton was president, to something that Clinton actually did, is disingenuous at best. Funny, most crime is considered state crime. Plus, wonder why the criminal behavior in the Executive Branch EXPLODED under Clinton? What was it, over one hundred twenty indicted officials in the Clinton Administration?

W. Bush cleared that crap up, too. What is happening now?

Anonymous said...

Everybody just calm down.

Tell you what. Feel free to express your own opinion and leave others alone to express theirs as they see fit.

Anonymous said...

Paul,

Good to see you're not scared to whip out the old broad brush.

"Ever wonder why crime is the most rampant in the liberal areas of the country?"

Whoa. I see what you did there. You uttered a fallacy and asserted it as fact, even though it has no basis in fact at all. Just your good ol' opinion from out there in Pearl.

I live in a fairly "liberal" area of the country, Denver, Colorado, and crime is most certainly not "rampant" here. Hell, Denver was named as the number 6 city in the country on Yahoo the other day based on livability, job availability, laissez faire lifestyle, etc. You might be scared of it, though. My neighbor is black. He's from *gasp* ERITREA! That's in Africa! To top it off, we have MEXICANS here! Lots of them! Holy shit!

Of course, I also see what else you're doing there. You're transposing the word "liberal" with "black", so that you can include the metro areas of Atlanta, D.C., Baltimore, etc., and make your point true.

Anyway, enjoy living in the outskirts of a metro area that you don't have the pride to call home. I bet that adds a little bit of a wrinkle to the Southern inferiority complex.

Andrew Newcomb

Paul Mitchell said...

Thanks for straightening me out, Andrew. Yes, Donner K is BLACK, or at least she thinks she is.

By the way, I live in Lexington, KY, the most liberal city in Kentucky, very, very white, and the highest crime rate in the entire state, too.

But, just like all "Progressives," you think that it is because of the black folks.

Anonymous said...

Good to know your location. Now, again, another fallacy in your carefully crafted sentence that shifts the subject from your original assertion.

I will accept as fact that Lexington, Kentucky is the crime capital of that state.

But, that doesn't have anything to do with your original bullshit statement that crime is the most rampant in the liberal areas of the country. Maybe your white Kentucky liberal criminals are unique.

Anyhow, I enjoy your mental gymnastics. Anyone with any mental honesty can see that you weren't talking about Lexington when you made your original assertion. But, it sure does increase your bona fides that you live in a white, liberal crime hellhole!

As for you labeling me a "Progressive", I don't really know what that means. It's interesting that you can glean so much from my single blog post.

KaptKangaroo said...

Andrew,

Have you ever been robbed? At gun point? Just wondering.

If you have, I guarandamnteeyou that the person on the other end of the gun does not matter one bit. Don't care the color, race, religion, creed, location in Colorado (oh BTW, been to parts of Denver that are VERY scary). All that matters is some people don't really give a hoot about the social contract.

Your attempt to take Paul's commentary and derive a broader conversation about race is utter crap.

Good day to you and hope it snows on Christmas, because, I like when things go well for folks who are good people; not robbing, stealing, terrorizing, purse snatching, home invading, car jacking...losers.

Anonymous said...

KK,

Thanks for the insincere well-wishes. Also glad you've been to parts of Denver that are scary.

I didn't "attempt to take Paul's commentary and derive a broader conversation about race". I quoted him directly making a false inference. His false inference directly involved the old tried and true method of transposing the word "liberals" with a race other than lily white, so that the commentary doesn't look as nakedly bigoted. It happens in Mississippi a lot. On this blog plenty. See, "thugs", and the use thereof.

As for whether I've been robbed at gun point, no. With a knife, yes. It's irrelevant to the conversation. You might go back and read his post. It wasn't about the particular Fondren robbery, it was commentary about why 'Merica is soft on crime 'cause of them commie liberals (of which I could not even moderately be accused of being in any place other than Mississippi).

But, just to help you foam at the mouth a bit, my robbery experience was by a black person! And it was in Jackson! So it must be true that it's a hellhole! You win! Lock your doors and turn on your alarm tonight. Madison's a short drive up I-55 from that cesspool.

Paul, you cannot substantiate your statement that crime is more rampant in " liberal" areas. And,you certainly can't back up that crime is worse where gun laws are strict. THE factor in crime is poverty.
Since guns laws are practically non-existent in MS and Jackson is in MS, you wouldn't think Jackson would have a crime problem at all.
Doesn't matter if you have a concealed weapon if the criminal has the drop on you. Doesn't matter if you have a gun in your house if you can't get to it in time . If the guns are stolen , however, when your car is broken into or your purse snatched or you house robbed, who is armed then?
Me, I watched enough westerns to know the Wild West calmed down when people couldn't bring their guns to town.
11:17 you're right. Stay anxious and angry and emotional if you want. Say " hi" to your doctor for me and keep that life insurance paid up.

Paul Mitchell said...

Anon 8:25. Compare the crime stats in DC v. Alexandria. Or Brandon (or Madison) and Jackson. It is simple to people that do not poke their heads in the sand.

Yes, there are reams and reams of documentation that gun control equals more crime. Check Australia, over 600% increase in violent crime, The UK is almost as bad.

Do not be stupid.

Mark Geoffriau said...

paul mitchell is correct. It's not the most rigorous or current study available, but Lott's "More Guns, Less Crime" is always a good place to start.

8:25:

"Since guns laws are practically non-existent in MS and Jackson is in MS, you wouldn't think Jackson would have a crime problem at all."

If we're going to engage in such overly-simplified logic, then you've got to explain why D.C. has such high rates of gun crime despite their restrictive gun laws.

"Doesn't matter if you have a concealed weapon if the criminal has the drop on you. Doesn't matter if you have a gun in your house if you can't get to it in time . If the guns are stolen , however, when your car is broken into or your purse snatched or you house robbed, who is armed then?"

Now you're just telling stories that fit your worldview. The numerous true stories of lives saved by law-abiding and responsible gun owners demonstrate the possibility of outcomes that don't fit into your purposefully-pessimistic view.

Anonymous said...

Well, I have been exposed. I am a crafty old Plaintiff's lawyer/civil rights/bad faith insurance attorney, and I did graduate from Ole Miss Law. Proud of both of those things.

My c.v. is available on my website, where I surmise you got that information, Paul.

"Admitting" to being a Plaintiff's lawyer is another thing you can say without having to defend it when you don't live in Mississippi. It's nice.

And, Paul, no white guilt here. It's called a conscience. Goes back in our family a ways. My great-grandfather, the Governer of the great state twice by appointment, was an early proponent of civil rights. Defeated by Gov. Bilbo, who ran partly on a platform that my gg was a "n***** lover", because he pardoned a black man during his appointment.

But enough of my info. KK, you hijacked the conversation and haven't introduced anything substantive into the discussion other than to say that my assertion that Paul was subbing "liberal" for "minority" or "black" was crazy, and that I was delusional for assuming so.

Pardon me for disagreeing, but I think that anyone who, again, is intellectually honest on this topic has a friend, family member or other acquaintance (maybe even themselves!) that has used "thug" to make a loose substitute for "black", or any other undesirable that is not one of their crowd. In Mississippi, since it is not appropriate to say "blacks are the cause of crime", people now say "thugs are the cause of crime". Or, because they can't believe that a white person might be a liberal democrat, they say "liberals are the cause of crime".

It's okay for you to continue to deny it. When I'm at hunting camp, I hear it plenty. You do too, it just doesn't fit your narrative for this argument so you cast it aside.

And, to get in one of your normal "give me some of what your smokin'" cuts. Bravo.

As for "DonnerK", never met her, read the rag for a while, and it was more ridiculous on the Two Lakes thing than credible, so I stopped. I doubt we have much in common in terms of our views on much at all. I don't know if she has any white guilt. I would say she identifies with AA's more than you do.

I don't have much in common with her beyond the fact that I have a (D) in my political affiliation.

Andrew, it was e-mailed to me, I guessed at it before I received the e-mail. Still, I have no clue why people that attach the D to their names have such a thing about debating race. I moved past that point when I was old enough to have any cognitive ability. For sure my opinions on race were formed before most because my grandfather is Cherokee. Yes, I agree that there are some that equate "thug" with black, but I equate "criminal" with Democrat. Growing up Catholic and of mixed race in Mississippi kinda instilled that in me.

By the way, I am not such much a Republican as I am anti-Democrat. For some reason, everything that I see as wrong, has always been promoted by Democrats. We can go down the entire list of things that are wrong these days, and I can always point to the Democrat Party as being the cause simply because it is true. Something about that whole "It is okay to own a man" ideology that Democrats love that sets me off. Plus, the owning of a man is not even restricted to skin color with Democrats either. For some reason, there is a half-black Democrat President and even HE follows that ideology that it is okay to get rich on the fruits of another man's labor.

Anonymous said...

Good lord. Certainly you acknowledge that those "Democrats" you speak of aren't the Democratic Party of today.

You're again being intellectually dishonest by suggesting that the Southern Democrats who were born out the civil war and Reconstruction and later devised the "Southern Strategy" are the same party of Democrats today.

But it doesn't appear that you're open to much actual discussion. You've already played the "plaintiff's lawyer" card, and admitted that you dismiss out of hand the entire ideology of a political group, while ignoring that such group is not a static body and might have differing views within its own constituency.

I will bow out now.

Andrew, the Democrat Party is exactly the same as it has always been. Revisionists think that it is different, but they have a vested interest in trying to make it seem different to people that do not keep informed.

The Democrats born out of the Civil War? Dude, the Democrats are the Democrats. If you do not know your party, that doesn't reflect on me. If you need a refresher, Google Dickie Scruggs or Bobby DeLaughter.

And no, I am not open to discussion about who Democrats are. To quote Joe Biden, "A taxi doesn't change its spots." If you want to see who the Democrats are, all you have to do is open your eyes.

Granted, Republicans are having an identity crisis right now at the hands of the Tea Parties, but at least they are not the party of racism and crime.

I am also not righteously correct. I don't espouse any particular view and ride it down like the Titanic. I have had changes of philosophy on guns, public finance, the death penalty, and some other major topics as I've gotten older, and they've gone in very different ideological directions.

So, I would disagree with your statement.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07

Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Kamikaze will perform his new song F*** Bush, he's still a _____. Did I mention there was no referee? Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.

There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
