Who is Samantha Cawthorn? Examination of the Cease and Desist emails sent from a Mississippi Farm Bureau address reveal Farm Bureau employee and lobbyist Samantha Cawthorn likely wrote the emails. The above screen shots show the "properties" associated with each letter and the author was scawthorn. This website used Farm Bureau's logo featured above in recent posts criticizing and parodying Farm Bureau's stated opposition to the animal cruelty bill that died in committee this week. See earlier post on Cease and Desist letters Ms. Cawthorn is not an attorney and graduated from high school in 2003. She is listed on Farm Bureau's website as a "public policy coordinator" and is registered with the Secretary of State as a lobbyist for MFB.
An examination of public records such as lobbying reports and Form 990's reveal some interesting facts. This report shows Agriculture Committee Chairman Greg Ward and fellow committee member Preston Sullivan attended a dinner at Farm Bureau President David Waide's home last year. The reports also show Mr. Ward is a regular guest of MFB as they treat him to some grub three to four times per session. 2010 campaign lobbying report, Additional 2009 report. It should also be noted Farm Bureau Federation's 2007 Form 990 reveals Agriculture committe member Bill Pigott is a director on the board of the Federation. While you are at it, check out this article about preventing livestock abuse in Farm Bureau's magazine. The irony.
Since Ms. Cawthorn is not an attorney, I'm posting this for her benefit:
The use of Mississippi Farm Bureau's name and logo in this post is for criticism of MFB policies and additional commentary. Such a use is deemed fair use under the following statute:
"(d) The following shall not be actionable under this section:
1) Any fair use, including a nominative or descriptive fair use, or facilitation of such fair use, of a famous mark by another person other than as a designation of source for the person's own goods or services, including use in connection with:
(B) Identifying and parodying, criticizing, or commenting upon the famous mark owner or the goods or services of the famous mark owner;
(2) Noncommercial use of the mark; and
(3) All forms of news reporting and news commentary."

Trollfest '09
Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.

Trollfest '07
Jackson Jambalaya is the home of Trollfest '07. Catch this great event which promises to leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Sonjay Poontang and his band headline the night with a special steel cage, no time limit "loser must leave town" bout between Alan Lange and "Big Cat"Donna Ladd following afterwards. Dr. Heddy Matthias and Lori Gregory will face off in the undercard dueling with dangling participles and other um, devices. Robbie Bell will perform Her two latest songs: My Best Friends are in the Media and Mama's, Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be George Bell. Sid Salter of The Clarion-Ledger will host "Pin the Tail on the Trial Lawyer", sponsored by State Farm.
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.

As a steward, not an attorney of one of the most valuable brands in the world, I can say, she is simply following her mandate by the Co. She might now raise up the issue to the one that owns it and ask him, "Mr. Waife, I've done all I can do, I've sent veiled threats, I've tried, I swear, I did."
She couldn't say this to him, "MAN UP Mr. Waife."
I wonder if he has a white cat.
She's fucked. Plain and simple. An attorney, or anyone, who could count to two wouldn't put their client in this situation. FB is fucked publicly.
Bet the young lady is not the only one saying OH! TSHHTF. Little pu##sies playing big dogs.
KF , can you even articulate what FB position is regarding animal cruelty bill???
We can certainly see in those documents whose hand FB is feeding! And what can you expect from a 24 year old want to be? I think it is great when we can educate the children of our state of the existing laws (and probably our representatives too)!
I think it's silly to send a C&D to someone who can quote the law in their defenses. I mean, it's been sent and laughed at. What's next?
Wait...a high school grad has this job and is a registered lobbyist?
Our legislators take advice on bills from 25 year old high school grads?
AND, she gets to " play pretend" at being a legal scholar?
I don't know whether to laugh or cry!
I'm also a big fan of 73-51-1. She should check that out as well.
Two important things have been left out of this discussion. The first is that Mississippi Poultry Association is knee deep in this along with Farm Bureau, they just are doing their part behind the scenes and not getting the public humiliation for their stupidity.
The second thing is the differences between 2623 and the Farm Bureau bill. (http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/2010/pdf/history/SB/SB2971.xml). Someone should look at how many code sections that bill opened up. Not to mention that it WEAKENED current law regarding the aggravated torture of dogs and cats, instead of strengthening it. Under the Farm Bureau bill it was a third offense felony and a first offense got you a total of 48 hours in the slammer...instead of the current 6 months. Good to note also that both bills reinstated 97-41-1 (misdemeanor law for all animals) since it was deemed unconstitutional in 2001 (Davis v. State of MS). Makes the argument that 2623 covered all animals moot, since 2623 got that from the Farm Bureau bill...and the definition of animal. In fact, 2623, as passed the Senate, took exemptions from the Farm Bureau bill as well.
So, at the end of the day David Waide is arguing that a third offense felony protects farmers and a first offense does not.... Does that mean he thinks that farmers are torturing dogs and cats....but only twice? Did he ever READ 2623 as passed the Senate?
Its clear many of you are rabid
against Farm Bureau rather than really concerned about animal cruelty.
NO IS FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY !
NO ONE IS FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY ! ! !
Wonder what legal BS they will send you today...... not sure who is doing more harm th toem: Kingfish or Waide? Hmmm, could be a toss up. Keep up the good work, KF. Dogs, cats, and vulnerable people in MS thank you.
7:53 Rabid against the Farm Bureau?
Criticizing the FB for their disgraceful tactics and opposition to a good bill is called responsible citizenship.
And, if you've read at all, the criticism has been focused on the FB leadership and how they have misled.
YOUR tactic of characterizing those who report the facts as " rabid" is a rather obvious " kill the messenger" when you can't dispute the message.
That may work elsewhere ( like with dumb legislators), but the bloggers on this site will be unimpressed and not fall for it.
Your message is right up there with hiding behind the skirts of some pretty little twenty year old.
I most appreciate this blog and highly recommend it to others often. I especially appreciate the light this blog has shined on to the sickening animal cruelty issue.
Just curious, has it been ruled out that this young lady may have been put into the position of having to send the e-mail by one or more of her superiors?
If so, and she’s out there on her own jumping into the game, then so be it. However, if someone above her, possibly someone who lacked the guts to send the e-mail themselves had the young lady do their work for them, hopefully she can be respected in the comments section, and the real person (s) behind the e-mail can be discovered.
Again, appreciate the blog; and if the young lady is the villain then she played with fire and this is what happens. If not though, most of us know how we would feel seeing our sister or daughter being attacked as with some of the statements in the comments section, for doing as instructed by her boss(es).
ALERT: David Waide will be interviewed on JT&Dave supertalker TODAY regarding Waide's push for his eminent domain initiative.
Anon 8:51, thank you for saying what I have been thinking.
Twenty-some-odd years ago, I was a kid right out of college with a job where I had to carry water for someone I completely disagreed with. But I was a kid right out of college with no power and a need to pay rent and buy groceries.
I am all about going after Waide, he's created his own mess. But the girl might be in a bad position with all of this -- she might even disagree with her bosses. But not knowing her situation I am hesitant to expect her to quit a job she needs over any issue, and I am not sure it's fair to villify her the same way we (rightly) do Waide.
11:00 David Waide, President of Mississippi Farm Bureau, will be on the program to talk about the federation's launch of an Eminent Domain petition. See the press release below.
http://www.supertalk.fm/pages/5043288.php
Call in and ask him about this NYC story - four years in prison for beating a puppy with a shovel:
http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local-beat/Queens-Woman-Charged-With-Beating-Bulldog-Pup-With-a-Shovel-86760667.html
Two comments:
1) Just because we know she graduated high school in 2003 DOESN'T mean she DIDN'T continue her education. She's had enough time to finish college, but not law school as well. We just don't have it documented. Or maybe she didn't go to college.
2) Just because the letters were composed on a machine issued to her (or rather, using software registered by her) doesn't mean she wrote it. If I was going to engage in jackassery I'd probably want to use someone else's software, fax machine, return address, etc too ;-)
KF
I must say that I too am disappointed that you have personally attacked this young lady. There is no question in my mind that a 24 year old made the decision to write and send the C&D letter...she was told to and she did nothing more than follow an instruction from a superior. And posting a picture of her is even more over the line. You owe her an apology and you should remove her the photo...well the entire post...immediately.
1. This gal is employed by FB.
2. She willingly accepts compensation to do PR and Lobby for FB.
3. She appears to have written the letter.
4. She de facto signed her name to the document.
This post is absolutely relevant, it shows that the defeat of the bill was orchestrated by the organization called FB. That she receives compensation for the action she appears to have taken says she is fair game. This is an "at-will" employment state, remember?
For those who asked and would like to help, MS-FACT is applying for 501(C)(4) status and we are waiting for the documents to come back. We can't use paypal until we get it back. In the meantime, we can cash checks made out to MS-FACT, PO Box 1485, Madison MS 39130 Thank you in advance...
What does the fact that this is an "at-will" employment state have to do with anything? Don't use phrases you don't understand.
Sorry, anyone who is lobbying the Legislature for compensation can not expect nor demand anonymity.
I agree that this is taking an overly aggressive stand against FB and this young girl/employee. There is an obvious concern by FB that goes beyond puppy beatings , inspite of you suggestions.
I dont think for one second that FarmBureau condones or otherwise supports puppy torture. it is , quite frankly, insulting that you insinuate as such.
It seems to me that at the age of 24, one is considered an adult. If she were to commit a crime, she would be charged as an adult. Therefore, she is responsible for her actions. Period. (For the simple minded, I have not said that she committed a crime). Whether or not someone put her up to doing this is irrelevant. I go back to the part about her being an adult and being responsible for her actions. If she were truly against animal cruelty, she could have been a responsible adult and followed that thing that some have which is called a morale compass. She is a tool. However, she is a responsible adult that may not have a morale compass for which to stand up for herself and therefore allowed herself to be used as a tool.
You people that say Kingfish has crossed the line by posting her on this site leaves me to question your morale compass. Whether or not you agree with my assessment of this particular person and some of the comments that have been left doesn't really concern me. I could give a *$@!! I know where my morale compass is positioned. I can honestly say that if I were told to write some garbage in an attempt to cover someone's ass over something that was morally wrong, I'd simply tell that person NO! And yes, I have been in that position at a young age and did exactly that.
People need to pull their spine out of their ass and start using it. People need to stop kissing ass and disregarding what they know is right. Again, if you disagree with me I really don't give a damn. Maybe she needs to do a back azimuth and travel back to where she lost her spine in order to find it. Maybe she needs to pull out the old declination diagram and find out how many meters she has traveled away from the point that she lost her spine. I don't know. Frankly, I don't care.
Kingfish did not cross the line. Kingfish exposed a tool. Plain and simple.
"At will" jack ass means it goes both ways, they don't like her, she's fired. If she don't like them, she quits. No harm, no foul. Stick it where the sun don't shine and please move along, nothing to see here that you can contribute to.
I'm sure a grown woman can say "naa, I'm not gettin' behind this one." But it appears she didn't, so fair game.
She can say no to mascara, she can say no to FB and their plight, too.
KF,
As an attorney, I'm not so sure your rights are as protected regarding trademarks as you believe. I appreciate want to do, but I encourage you to be mindful that there is always two sides to any legal issue.
Wow, I had no idea this place was over run with know-it-all animal rights activists,
why not go down to our illustrous
ZOO and create a stir about animals caged up. I bet many of you support the zoo.
There is nothing more heartbreaking than to ponder all those wild animals penned up.
But no, you would rather get all excited about a 1 in a million dog with an arrow in its head. Or some image of a bunch of Chinese preparing lunch.
give me a break.
Lets see, anon wrote his comment at 11:33. MFB visited this website at the same time. Anyone want to guess who said attorney is?
WOW! really kf, calling out a 24 year old employee, while you hide behind your email address...nice. Keep it classy, KF.
this "compelling controversy" you have created is a joke. Does this state not have more pressing issues?
This blog has a lot foul-mouthed comments these days, that's pretty sad.
This has been said before, the politics of MS are corrupt. The issue here is that a select few choose to stick their neck out to squash a very rationale, sane, attempt to create a real disincentive about animal mistreatment, etc. The most recent comments only illustrate how most of the public in MS really thinks: I basically hear... "Stop bringing real issues to light, we just want our old way of doing things, we just want what we have and no one can tell us differently." Mr. Waide and now the PR Dept. of FB, unlocked the discussion with these very public actions. Deal with it. If you gonna' dish it (please give the thinking public some credit) you best be able to take it; or at a minimum provide the support how creating a felony law for animal abuse somehow impacts "soybeans and corn."
I would love to watch this one play out in public beyond here, it will illustrate for all to see exactly the type of BS backroom politics, dealmaking, decision making going on in MS. Open the door, let the light shine.
I've never read such garbage in my life! I think it's time you all got a life and kf, you need to get a real job. You lost touch with reality after being put on this pedestal by your groupies. Climb down off your throne and get back down to earth. I'm absolutely against animal cruelty but obviously none of you have a clue what Farm Bureau stands for or have even read the bill.
I've never read such garbage in my life!
And yet you are still here reading and now decide to comment. Wow, you really told us off.
Just a quick word of advice to FB as a retired PR person. There ain't no way in hell you are going to win this one by letting a sweet young thing send out warning emails. There is also not a damn thing you can do to stop seeing your logo on this site without alienating most of Mississippi. The last thing you want to do is let your complaints go further. Your PR people should be fired today.
I agree 1:02 - I worked in PR for quite a few years. The way this is being handled would have resulted in a mass firing at my old company.
I am taking the steps of moving my insurance from Farm Bureau to ALFA. This thing shows me how incompetent the folks at FB are.
She's 24. She's grown. If she gets a bad taste in her mouth for it or gets her feelings hurt for being outed, it will be a growth process for her and an education of how bidness really works. I had a degree and 4 years employment behind my belt by 24. Ocassionally I complied with a job assignment I didn't really wish to, but I did it. If it turned out bad, then I knew better for next time to make a different choice based on past failure. No failure, no growth. It's called learning. It ain't no picnic out there. Let her take the hit and how she responds will be reflective of her learning experience.
Anon 12:32, I am trying to understand how your post contributes in any way. If you look back at the history of this discussion on the site, the regular posters HAVE read the bill, and quite often. We quote from it.
If you believe there is something in the bill that the rest of us are missing, please, paste the text. The address to the Leg. site is http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us.
You can't claim that people have lost touch with reality and haven't read the bill unless you demonstrate WHY that is. So, please, make an actual argument.
The whole site is starting to read like the comments section on the C-L. Can we get back to commentary and substantive argument -- less name-calling and general ugliness? Or is this yet another site where only the most bombastic survive?
11:36 and 11:44 it is a "compelling controversy." We're one of four states in the nation where this is not a felony. It is a phucking joke this bill didn't pass. A phucking joke.
1. I have not personally attacked Ms. Cawthorn. Don't have anything for or against her.
2. Farm Bureau sent me two cease and desist letters that were unsigned and thus somewhat anonymous.
3. I am not rabidly anti-Farm Bureau. As Ms. Cawthorn, I don't have anything for or against them. I probably agree with them on this eminent domain issue, for example. My disagreement with Farm Bureau is over this particular bill and any tactics used towards this site.
4. Having said that, I am allowed to return fire when fired upon. In this case, someone sent me two cease and desist emails. They were not signed. However, Ms. Cawthorn's name was in the document properties. I did NOT say she wrote them but instead said "she likely wrote them" and included pictures for everyone to make their own judgement.
5. Ms. Cawthorn is an employee. If she indeed authored and sent them, then its perfectly appropriate to criticize her for doing so. Whether or not she was told to do so is a moot point. We've all been ordered to do things by our employers we didn't like. Having said that, when someone shoots at you, you usually shoot back at whoever is firing upon you, not the general sitting back at HQ. Ms. Cawthorn is a big girl and a lobbyist. When she decided to enter the realm of politics, she knew there would be times where she would take some heat for her actions. This might be one of those times. Like I said, I have nothing for or against her or her employer. We might fight like cats and dogs (pun intended) on this issue but then tomorrow fight like hell together to stop Sierra Club or PETA on a particular project.
6. The language has gotten a little salty and I'm about to clean up a little. If you got zapped and it had language, just repost your comment without said language.
Kingfish you are such an arrogant douche.
Kingfish you are such an arrogant douche.
Then why are you here reading?
It'll play real well in the press if FB takes on Kingfish for, of all things, only identifying that they were behind defeating this bill, something they seemed quite willing to discuss beforehand in the press but now seemingly don't want discussed because it is getting negative criticism. Yeah, that will play real well. Talk about the PR nightmare that would be.
Right on KF.
The only "unsavory vaginal cleansing products" I see around here (trying to keep it clean) are Mr. Waide and his minions who have utterly failed in quelling serious debate and criticism regarding their success in ending all hopes for the bill at hand to pass in 2010.
To those who criticize this site for paying attention to an issue such as this and the ensuing debate, I say to you, you are missing the point. If you don't think JJ is relevant inside the discussion, please share some intellectual ability and say why.
I like everyone who is a regular on this site still want an answer to the question, "How did this bill impact soybeans and corn?" Or, is it, "we couldn't handle the truth?" I tend to believe that you would expose your own ignorance FB and you would find a fine intellectual pummeling on from the readership on this blog.
My opinion, for what its worth: A lobbyist is not an innocent bystander in this conflict; a lobbyist is a paid combatant!
I don't understand all the whining about the "young girl/employee." The legislature is not a place for "young girls" to go, unless they're looking to grow up REAL FAST!
... you would find a fine intellectual pummeling ...
Right on Kappy.
Reminds me of Waide's legisidiot Greg Ward's comments last week.
[Waide's "man"] Ward says he would support a felony animal cruelty law, but wants more expert testimony before he addresses it in front of the committee.
"We're gonna have hearings and we're gonna bring experts in to help to address these definitions, the issues in a professional way. And not in a way that's put together with a few words and a few phrases that someone thinks sounds good."
Ward says he plans to address these issues with his committee by this summer.
I mean talk about a treatment plant full of effluent. There is such a huge existing body of academic and professional testimony+statements already in the public sphere about this problem one has to wonder if Greg Ward's disability is that he never learned to read.
One more thing. NOBODY should lose sight of Billy McCoy's role in all of this. McCoy is Waide's #1 huckleberry, not Ward. This bill was buried with McCoy's knowledge and approval.
We are a state governed by hopeless redneck rubes, both in and out of government. There are reasons we are last.
When will the ole redneck rubes finally die off, is what I want to know. Why is it when one of them dies or retires, another virtually identical rube is right there to take his place? Why can't we run out of white, middle-aged, stereotypical redneck execs and politians in this state?
YOU GO#$AM FU#$ING RETARDS!!! GET YOUR FU#$ING HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASSES!! THIS PIECE OF S#%T RUNNING THIS BLOG GOT WHAT LITTLE INFO HE COULD OFF OF HER FACEBOOK ACCOUNT AND TRIED TO MAKE HER LOOK STUPID. YEH SHE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL AND FROM MISSISSIPPI STATE WITH HER DEGREE IN POLITICAL SCIENCE!! AND SHE DIDN'T GET HER POSITION IN FB WITHOUT HARDWORK AND NOT KNOWING WHAT SHE IS DOING!! NOW IF YALL WILL GET THE SMOKE OUT OF YOUR EYES AND QUIT SUCKING PETA'S C^&K AND READ THE F!@KING BILL IT WILL SEND US ALL TO THE F@#KING PEN IF WE JUST ACCIDENTLY RUN OVER SOMEONE'S PET IN THE ROAD, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT JUSTS HAPPENS SOMETIMES. I DON'T WANT TO RUN OVER ANYONE'S PET (I LOVE ANIMALS), BUT I SURE AS HELL AINT GOING TO JAIL BECAUSE YOUR DUMB@SS DOG RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME. SO QUIT TALKING SHIT LIKE A BUNCH OF LIL SCHOOL GIRLS UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT THE F@#K IS UP!!! IF YOU STILL FEEL LIKE YOUR SH&T DON'T STINK AND HATE FB THEN GO HUG A TREE AND GET F#$KED!!!!!!
Give em Hell 6:04 PM,,, well deserved if you ask me.
Damn 6:04 PM. You are so eloquent. Samantha should be proud to have you in her corner.
Hey 6:04, you actually wouldn't be charged with a felony for accidentally hitting a dog under 2623, just like you don't get charged with a misdemeanor today for the same act.
I have read the bill....and I liked it. Do you really think PETA is operating in MS? Seriously????
6:04, that was a pretty base post and frankly showed your ignorance on the issue. If you had actually read 2623, you might have not revealed the truth about your education level or lackthereof. It appears you could be one of the redneck, uneducated individuals that people on this post are railing against. Please read the bill and then maybe we will let you back on.
In case you are not sure, this and my previous posts are authentic. Thank you Slither Firm Boro, no commercial business was conducted as a result of your pathetic attempt to impress us with your chest puffery. No animals were harmed in any way while this posting was authentically posted.
I take personal issue with the logo below, it am criticizing it and commenting. Please don't sue me.
Jackson Jambalaya
A jambalaya of commentary, politics, culture, and jackassery in Jackson, Mississippi
I'm gonna take a page from the Slither Firm Boro letter and ask that you please send me an anonymous letter threatening me so I can send you back a letter telling you to #$*@($ %*&^%**(. OK, maybe I might call you a "douche".
For future correspondence, please note the following...
"It misleads consumers into believing that some association exists between you and Jackson Jambalaya; and it weakens the ability of the JacksonJambalaya mark and name to identify a single source, namely, Jackson Jambalaya."
God I love the internets.
Love,

Hey 7:04...soon to be AnonymousFreeZoneForDirtbagsThatCan'tKeepUpWithIntelligentConversationThatThreatensTheStatusQuo. Please stay. We like to play with simpletons like you.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Allow me to introduce the folks who fear losing what is status quo...
In this corner, those who seek to quell the spirit of free speech, who seek to destroy the very country we love by denying open dialogue...
In the other corner, everyone else.
I can see the promised land.
Good job KF; removing the Anony 7:04 post!
We like to play with simpletons like you.
And played they are!
C'mon...Aggies can't take it here can they? Fine, I'll tone it down. Hey BF, I'm better than you.
the lobbyist is pretty hot.
Don't know if this has been discussed before but nationwide the ferm bordeauxs are PARANOID about ALL things even mentioning treatment of animals.
They see vegetarians, PETA, not to mention socialists, commies and even schoolkids and grandmas behind every proposed law concerning treatment and MISTREATMENT of animals.
There is no doubt a special manual on how they handle things like this.
I suspect that all applicants are carefully screened to ensure compatibility with the views of those in charge. Ms. Cawthorn has been paid the money to lobby for them.
If the dogs have fleas and you associate with them...
This is all about no one tells the Ferm bordeauxs what to do.
Okay, 6:04 your true ignorance and lack of intelligence truly shows in your post. If you could read, or possibly interpret what Senate Bill 2623 excluded then you certainly would not have to worry about being sent to prison by accidentally running over an animal. I am not an animal rights activist, not PETA, but just a rural born and raised Mississipian that wants to look out for the "ANIMALS WELFARE"! As for some of the quote's from legislatures, "I won't pass no cruelty law cause if a cat comes in my yard I want to be able to shoot it" or "does that mean if a dog comes to relieve himself in my yard, I won't be able to kill it" is insane! If these people had any sense of the law now they would know this is ALREADY AGAINST THE LAW! As far as Samantha C., she knew what she was signing on for when she took the job and if she can't take the heat, then she just needs to get out of the kitchen! If you don't like what is written here, then don't read it, but we have a right to express ourselves and there is not one thing you can do about it!
6:04 My parents taught me that when you have to resort to profanity, you've lost , not only self-control, but the argument.
You are factually incorrect about the content of the bill.
Your one reasonable but poorly express comment was about KF's implication that Ms Cawthorn is only a high school graduate.
But, you hurt her rather than help her as you make her seem like a victim who is unable to defend herself and/or who has no rational defense as you take ignorance off the table.
And, as political strategies go, this is the most incompetent I've witnessed since Dale Danks' put out the photo of Mike Moore looking like a " hippy". They arrogantly missed that nearly every voter either had children that had long hair or had long hair in college themselves.
Hippy then, PETA now are just buzz words with negative associations . But, it you don't use them well, it backfires big time. You don't attach the label to the market you hope to persuade. Surely, MSU teaches that somewhere in the poly sci dept.
This strategy seemed to miss that there are MORE than a few cat and dog owners in MS who are CONSERVATIVES. Not only that, but most all of them have been to a farm! This isnt' NYC or LA.
You;re mad at the wrong people. You ought to be mad at Waide et al for using Ms Cawthorn as a sacrificial lamb.
FB MIGHT ,with competent advice, have recovered from the news release, but the " cease and desist" and painting anyone who is appalled by animal cruelty as a PETA sympathizer is backfiring in the worst way.
Hey, A-hole. You ever met Kingfish? Trust me, he does not have to hide from anybody and if you go looking for trouble with him, you better go heavy. He's a full grown man.
6:04 is an agitator/troll from FB trying to make everyone here look like fools.
Nobody can accidently write a post that stupid.
I hope Ms. Cawthorn and Mr. Gibson (Farm Bureau's PR representative) plan to spend the majority of their careers at Farm Bureau, as they have seriously jeopardized their career options anywhere else - not by expressing an unpopular opinion, but by failing to understand the basic nature of public relations and allowing loose cannon David Waide to make a fool not only of Farm Bureau, but of the farmers he supposedly represents.
I thought David Waide's letter to the editor in today's paper made a lot of sense.
Interesting that JJ doesnt seem interested to publish something that clarifies FB position.
It was posted here several days ago. Its virtually the same thing as that press release. Any messages from them explaining their position to me will be posted on this site JUST LIKE I DO FOR EVERYONE ELSE.
Quit lying.
and what do you know, your comment appears at the same time as does a visit from farm bureau on my site. once again you have to hide instead of just having your PR person email me that letter for posting on my site. I forgot, the only way you know how to communicate with bloggers is through threats.
Is FB for real? Do they really conduct business like this? I mean this has got to be the most unprofessional exhibit of Corporate behavior I have ever witnessed. I am certain if I sat on the board, I would seriously wonder about the management in place that would allow this. No professional response from them, only sophomoric game play. Unreal.
Mr. Waide, in the immortal words of those old women of yesterday, these are professionals....
Click my name for more...
2:03, why don't you ask the banks who relied on MVT in the Evans fraud what they think about unprofessional corporate sophmoric behavior?
2:03 I don't need to. They are already on the line to lose big because of their own greed, lack of oversight, and similar unprofessional behavior you exhibited.
And 2:03, I actually put FB in the camp of the Evans brothers. They deceitfully brought about the mess.
It appears that FB has done the same with respect to the lies that brought down the bill, or, the actions that FB took to influence the right politicians to bring down the bill.
Keep trying Mr. Waide.
1:16- Made a lot of sense???? Ok, lets break it down...
1. MFB has taken criticism for opposing legislation which would make cruelty to dogs and cats a first offense felony. THIS IS THE MOST TRUTHFUL STATEMENT IN THIS LETTER.
2.We are working diligently toward a solution to this problem. DOES YOUR C&D TO JJ COUNT IN THIS SOLUTION? DID YOU ACTUALLY READ THE BILL THAT YOU SUPPORTED? THE THAT BILL WEAKENED CURRENT LAW AND MADE A CURRENT 6 MONTH MISDEMEANOR SENTENCE A 48 HOUR SENTENCE FOR A FIRST OFFENSE. YOU CALL THAT WORKING DILIGENTLY? YOU CALL THAT A SOLUTION? AT LEAST THE SENATE WAS SMART ENOUGH NOT TO LET THAT GREAT PIECE OF LEGISLATION GET THROUGH COMMITTEE!
3. We did have the support of other influential animal welfare groups. LIKE WHO? ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE IN DEFENSE OF ANIMALS PERSON WHO WAS ON SUPERTALK? DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHO IDA IS? CAN YOU SAY PETA ON STERIODS? HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO THE IDA WEBSITE? VERY INFLUENTIAL IN MS, YEAH RIGHT!
4. Animal activist spokespeople declare that the legislation that FB was concerned about this year dealt only with cats and dogs. AND???? THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOUR BILL AND THEIR BILL WAS THE 1ST AND 3RD OFFENSE FELONY. YOU BOTH REINSTATED 97-41-1 MISDEMEANOR AND YOU BOTH HAD THE SAME EXEMPTIONS. SO, ARE YOU SAYING THAT A FIRST OFFENSE FELONY FOR TORTURING A DOG SOMEHOW HURTS FARMERS BUT A THIRD OFFENSE DOESN'T?
5. Animal activist spokespeople...HAVE YOU MET THESE PEOPLE? CAN YOU SAY, CONSERVATIVE? SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS MILITANT FOLKS ON YOUR TEAM!
6. FB's concern is that this type of legislation will be used as a vehicle to open avenues for activists to push other, more extreme agendas. WHICH ACTIVISTS ARE THOSE? YOU MEAN IDA...WHO YOU BROUGHT INTO ALL OF THIS? AND IF YOU WERE SO CONCERNED ABOUT THESE GROUPS WHY DID YOU SUBMIT ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME LEGISLATION? OF COURSE YOU DID OPEN UP LOTS OF EXTRA CODE SECTIONS FOR PEOPLE TO MESS AROUND WITH... DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT A THIRD OFFENSE FELONY IS THE GLUE THAT WILL HOLD THE FARM INDUSTRY TOGETHER IF THOSE CRAZY PEOPLE WHO DON'T WANT PSYCHO'S WORKING IN SCHOOLS ACTUALLY GET A DOG AND CAT BILL PASSED?
7. The risk of their causing the discontinuation of practices that have proven to be humane and efficient methods for raising livestock on our farms is quite real. OH REALLY. SO YOU BELIEVE THAT PASSING A DOG AND CAT BILL WILL SUDDENLY CHANGE THE CULTURE IN MS SO THAT WE WILL NO LONGER BE A FARMING STATE? AND WHICH FOUR VOTING POPULATIONS ARE YOU COMPARING MS'S VOTING POPULATION TO? IF THE LAWS CHANGED THEN IT WAS DUE TO VOTERS AND LAWMAKERS AND HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH DOGS AND CATS. I AM PRETTY CONFIDENT THAT THOSE AREN'T THINGS THAT ARE CHANGING IN MS.
Maybe you can help Mr. Waide come up with a few good campaign slogans for his bid for Governor.... How about.... Soft on crime? Vote for David Waide! or maybe, "Care about kids, old people and animals? Better vote for the other guy!"
Kingfisher, as the one who posted the reference to David Waide's letter to the editor, I can assure you, (even bet you a plate of free Jambalaya) that I am not related , nor do I even know anyone associated with
MississippiFarm Bureau.
3:15 Regardless, please read past posts to catch up on the discussion, that letter is days, maybe a week old. Not being critical, you just mess with the rhythm of the comments when folks have to go back and rehash criticisms already made.
3:15 How do you expect JJ to "clarify Farm Bureau's position" when Farm Bureau itself cannot do so? Farm Bureau has made no attempt to provide any facts whatsoever supporting actions against this bill. The letter to the editor is another example of David Waide talking but saying nothing factual - or even rational.
FB has too taken action to support their position on the bill...
1. They opposed the bill.
2. They got caught with their pants down.
3. They tried to bully the public's outrage here with C&D letters.
4. The leadership of FB has hid behind its minions to avoid direct criticism.
So yes, they have made an attempt to clarify their actions by covering them up and utilizing bully tactics.
I might add, it is extremely unprofessional.
If someone wants to explain that, I will listen, otherwise, I think this pretty much sums up the pathetic attempt to quell dissent.
I wonder if there is any way to cross pollinate with the members of FB to find out if they might join us in our discussion.
hey 3:15, according to FB, they have 200K plus members, so chances are you know someone, somewhere who is is associated with them. I am actually thinking about joining them so I can harass them from within......
2:53, that post sums it all up. MS-FACT needs to hire you. I would be willing to bet that Waide is reading this blog and realizing his big for gov is going down the tubes fast, real fast, faster than Obama's presidency. If Waide gets any backing, then the sane people in MS need to move elsewhere. We are doomed.
If Waide is seriously considering a run for Governor then he is more delusional than most already know him to be.
Link to Waide's Deeply Disingenuous Letter:
http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20100309/OPINION02/3090308/1009/Cruelty-issue-still-needs-work
I really look forward to all the responses that get sent in. I half expect a letter from PETA that says something like, "We don't want to come down there, we know we'd have no shot. We'd rather spend our time demanding that Ben and Jerry's use human breast milk in their ice cream than have to tangle with you meat-eaters."
the problem is 315, is I have a saved screen shot that shows otherwise and matches up perfectly with your time.
this is 3:15 Dont be too cute.
Cause you're wrong.
I like my jambalaya with humanely killed chickens.
me again (3:15)
...and where do you have his letter to the editor that was published in todays paper posted a few days ago?
Would you like him to spoon feed you and tie your shoes too?
Hey 3:15/5:27 That is the SAME letter that FB has had on their website for about a week!
just for a laugh (and I'm glad we are all having it at the expense of Waide and FB....) I looked at his picutre that was originally posted on this site again and I feel certain there are no branches on his family tree. Not even a bud.....
Just a thought but KF, you should feel slighted by Waide. First he sends you the C&D and then his original post was a "Guest Editorial" on your site. That article then appeared on FB website. It then became a letter to the Editor in the CL. Maybe you were just the test market for his blundering PR campaign. BTW, FB just spent $100K on an ad campaign on WLBT to make us aware of what farmer's do for Mississippi. (I am not making this up.) Does Waide actually think we are not aware of that? If I were a member of FB, i would be upset that they are spending a huge amount of $$ on nothing. The ads will be done by Barbie Weathergirl with no tags on them. And I thought government spends $$$ foolishly.
Check out this winner argument against the animal cruelty bill http://www.dailytimesleader.com/
Outfits like FB spends gobs of money with the statewide newsers, print and air, in order to gain favorable treatment and spotlights pointed anywhere but in their direction.
The question FB members need to ask is how much of the spend is Waide greasing the skids for his own election purposes versus spend on bonafide FB PR needs.
I am not sure which is more disturbing; the fact that supposed grown people are goosestepping behind a corporate giant like MFB without the facts, or that supposed grown people who are employees of MFB are talking like thirteen year old boys on a blog and being trolls.
a discussion or debate considers the facts and responds in an educated, informed manner or else says nothing at all.
I have read the bill, I support the bill, I in fact would prefer the bill be more wide ranging, however that is not the choice we were given. so. this was the bill that would finally make some sort of headway in the amazing amount of animal abuse that is out there on a day to day basis. trust me folks there is more than you realize. (and no I don't mean accidentally running over your neighbors pet fluffy).
the arrow in the dogs head happens more often than any of you care to realize.
the opposition to this is maddening. why on earth would you not support a felony for someone who wantonly and intentionally harms, maimes or kills a dog or a cat?
if I could figure out how to not be anonymous I would.
6:20, the Barbie ads are already running. She praises farmers and references her parents. It's not a particularly BAD commercial, but given what FB has been up to at the Leg., it leaves a pretty bad taste.
And honestly, it makes me wonder if Barbie has pets.
The WLBT ads were in the works for awhile. No conspiracy there.
Was that article in the clarion ledger today about Raven adoption home a story about animal abuse or mental illness???
The last post about Farm Buerau, animal cruelty was March 7. Have their lawyers gotten to you?
Was in bed sick for two days. Just threw up some stuff on here when I was able. Stay tuned.
KF, hope you are feeling better. And he is correct, there was no conspiracy on the part of FB in buying the ads. It had been in thw orks for awhile. I will restate my opinion that it appears to be a waste of $$$ on things we already know about. I am wondering who the FB is trying to educate about what the farmers contribute to our economy in MS.
if anyone is interested, MS-FACT just received their tax-exempt status. There is no Paypal yet, but can take checks. The address is P.O. Box 1485, Madison, MS 3913. We really could use a bunch of $$$ to do a campaign this summer when Mr. Ward does his "hearings" and gets info from experts. Thank you in advance for helping us.
I am curious, what are these Barbie ads that are being referenced. I'm up here in West Point (yeah, DW's stompin' grounds), and don't get WLBT. Thx.
Chevy, they are about "What Farmer's do for Mississippi", as if we didn't know already. They are not tagged with any bylines ar anything. Not really sure of the purpose though.
FYI KF. http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/03/gripe-site-prevails-in-domain-cybersquatting-case.ars (h/t Overlawyered)
Take that MFB.
