Is it over? Yes.

Update: Here is the deal. Calls went out to several government officials mid-morning saying Frank had died. Makes complete sense as if the President died, the Speaker, the Chief Justice, the SecDef, etc are all notified. My source is an excellent source that has given very credible information in the past. This was not something picked up from chatter on police radios or a nurse at St. Dominics I might know. There are multiple rumors floating around. One is Frank is deceased. One if Frank was taken off the ventilator but the tough old bird kept breathing. Then there is the official line he is in critical condition. Was also told at City Hall there is mass confusion. I'm standing by what I was told and if wrong, will be more than happy to make the appropriate apology and correction. Some additional update: He was on life support yesterday morning and was dead when the post was made but for the life support. Was told by two sources the funeral home was called yesterday morning. They kept him on life support until the children made it to the hospital. Most of the media knew this yesterday but had nothing on the record they could use. Prayers go out to his family and friends. He meant alot to many people and helped many over the years.

Update: Frank has passed away. Just told by a very good source. Announcement will be coming soon from family or city.

Have gotten several text messages and emails saying Frank has passed away. I'm inclined to believe them based on what my source told me last night. He went into some detail on what the disease Frank has can do to a heart. Frank did die yesterday, was somehow revived, but the death itself caused so much damage to the muscle there was probably no way he could survive for long after revival and by long I don't even mean a day. Prayers are with his family and friends.

Just talked to my reporter friend who is keeping vigil. He is still alive.

Same person as above, the second I posted that, I got the word. Sad.

Jane said...

Yes. Sad.

So does it make you feel good to announce this through your source over letting the family and city formally announce it? All so you can boast that you got it faster than the free press and ledger. What a guy! Pretty low down considering other outlets are allowing for the family to "call it."

Kingfish said...

Where did I boast about beating the media? I really don't care about that kind of crap. I'm not the one who brags about how well I cover a murder.

10:34, Why are you on this blog, if you don't want the "scoop?"

Anonymous said...

KF, are you pretty confident about this? Can you give your source's background in terms of why he/she would have the info?

Anonymous said...

This is what happens when Ladd keeps the whiny JFP bitches on hold. They go looking for news elsewhere.

DonnerKay's Jihadist said...

Can you give your source's background in terms of why he/she would have the info?

KF doesn't need to reveal anything. If you don't like what he brings to the table then take a hike.

Anonymous said...

Ledger reporting rumor isn't true....this story will change minute by minute.

Anonymous said...

10:48, don't be a dick. I am asking a question because I am trying to ascertain whether the source has credibility. I am following various leads, and there is disinformation coming from the Melton camp as well as some conflicting stories.

Anyway, KF, can you shed some light?

Anonymous said...

Funny how so many don't hold the JFP accountable to same levels and standards to which they want to hold Kingfish. But, then again, many have tried to do so. Ladd browbeats them and then bans them.

Anonymous said...

@10:54. Get over yourself.

Anonymous said...

The JFP is accountable to tofu, a latte and the company Yugo.

Kingfish said...

What is the disinformation?

Anonymous said...

KF, basically what just hit the paper. the spokesperson i talked to made some veiled comments similar to the CL ones; "def not dead". What that says to me is that he probably is in a coma or something. Very semantic.

If he was in bad shape but conscious, it would seem they would say that.

Your readers are kind of defensive. My comment asking about the credibility of your source simply was a question so I can try to compare it to things I am getting.

I have a call into a CL reporter who is not at that desk who may have some more info.

Will let you know.

Kenneth-in-Charge said...

Why doesn't the jerkoff wanting to assess King's sources send him a damn private email?

Kenneth-in-Charge said...

Send King a private email. Otherwise give it a rest.

Anonymous said...

Well Revies says he's not dead! Oops! Funny how if you guestion KF you are automaticly labelled a JFP supporter by the minions here. All I'm saying is KF should have the class to wait for the family to say something official before he posts womething this serious even if he is right. And, yes, you have boasted in the past about beating the media to stories, so you are not innocent of my claims.

Minion said...

Great. Your protest is duly noted. Anything else?

Anonymous said...

Did you complain that one day months back when the JFP breathlessly reported that Melton's family was rushing to his bedside in the hospital as if he were about to pass?

Anonymous said...

I don't post on the free press jackass! You guys on here are worse than the idiots that keep supporting Stokes.

Kingfish said...

Question away guys, question away. If I wind up being wrong, guess what? There will be a big headline saying "Kingfish F'ed Up" with an explanation and apology.

Debate is encouraged here.

11:13am, yes I did. In this case, I got emails, text, and calls all morning after 9 saying he died. I didn't run with that because its obviously rumor despite how well informed.

I dont' try to scoop the media. yes, I have a couple of times and have joked about it but honestly, I'm not trying to scoop the media. Now if I find out something I can support or has credible sources, I'll probably post it. My track record has been pretty damn good on that score.

This post I discussed with a couple of attorneys before I posted it. Told them my source and the info and was told it was ok.

Anonymous said...

Well, I did email KF. He verified, to some degree, his source and I am satisfied. Not that anyone gives a damn.

FWIW, I was just simply comparing his source to some of mine to get an accurate look at what is happening.

I still suspect that Melton is in some sort of vegetative state, or is going through congestive heart failure, which is unfortunate and can take some time.

I hope he is improving, but don't read the articles to see that to be the case.

Everyone who demanded that Ladd reveal her sources when this went down please stand up.

Kingfish said...

The difference is if I wind up being wrong I'm not going to change a screen. I'm going to write a correction, take my lumps for it, and leave my mistake up there if it turns out to be one and label it as wrong.

Like I said, I have a very credible source. I spoke to someone just now at a tv station and they are hearing so many different things its unbelievable. They were even told a funeral home. Of course when they called there was no such thing, just a wild tip.

Kingfish said...

Here is what I actually wrote on that postin the comments:

They were given a bad lead and issued a retraction when it didn't check out. It happens.

Kingfish said...
You are absolutely correct. I agree 100% with your assertion and logic.

however, as I wrote, imagine if the CL had done the same thing. She's made a practice of bashing the rest of the media for this kind of reporting. In fact, her trademark phrase is "factchecking.its.not.that.hard
No one demanded she reveal her sources.

It's kind of ironic that controversy surrounds Melton even as he lay dying. Faulkner couldn't have written it better.

Anonymous said...

And I was not meaning any disrespect toward Frank at all in my post just now on the irony. I think even Frank would get several laughs over the drama!

He and his family have been in prayers. He's actually a neighbor of mine.

Kingfish: "The difference is if I wind up being wrong I'm not going to change a screen."

Thank you for not doing that to fit the circumstances. The Fondren Bugle is notorious for changing their online content on the fly to make it appear that they got it right from the outset. It is a now you see it, now you don't bait and switch of the worst kind. When you've thrown the amount of rocks the Bugle editor has thrown you shouldn't be surprised when some get thrown right back. Citizen journalists are going to make mistakes; Kingfish has always been forthcoming when he has done so. It is a new world out there as print newspapers, including free entertainment throwaways, die off. Citizen journalists don't have to wait on the C-L or JFP or WAPT or anybody else to report. If you like the coverage and content you'll come read again. If you don't, you won't. You can always start your own.

The following is a comment on the CL about Frank's health...

"No lawyers will cry that my death caused them a loss of income. My death won't save the taxpayers money on another trial. I won't need a spokesman to explain how I was in full cardiac arrest then talking to people on a gurney later. A city wont be glad Iam dead because their embarrasment will be buried. People won't say I am not lying because my lips are taped shut."

Anonymous said...

People,

The man had his problems, but it sounds as if he is dying if he hasn't already. Be a little kinder. This junk is horrible. You should all be ashamed. What will you talk about now! Let me guess...

Anonymous said...

We could discuss the TIF abuses taking place in Jackson but that will only draw out the myopic boo birds who don't want their taxpayer subsidized gravy train to go off track.

Anonymous said...

Most of you are talking like you are a bunch of Vulture's.There is not much pitty or compassion on here for this Human Being. We all make our share of mistakes not just Mr.Melton but each and every one of us.He will have a judgement day and thank God he won't be judged by the Jackson Jambalaya.Try showing the family a little Respect!!!!!

Comparing JJ and Kingfish to the JFP is the same as comparing a nuclear physicist to a dog turd.

Thanks for the info, Kingfish.

You were right all along Kingfish. Now we'll get 1000 words out of Ladd about her usual best practices bullshit. She's a super freak, a super control freak.

"Best practices".....ha ha ha

RIP Frank 12:10 am

The greatest irony was provided by Goldia Revies who announced yesterday that the Mayor was "resting." Yeah, I guess you could call it that.

Sad ending but not all that surprising.

Kingfish said...

If there has been one hallmark of the Melton administration and staff its been to deny deny deny, then lie, lie, lie until confronted with a different set of facts.

Anonymous said...

So far it looks like that is the same modus of the Crisler campaign.

Jane said...

Bert Case's story on WLBT just now stated that the paramedics didn't get to Melton in time last night, he was brain dead. Which is pretty much consistent with KF's reporting and, in a sense, that he was merely "resting" yesterday ('cause, let's face it, the only way Melton was gonna rest was when dead).

He will be missed.

Anonymous said...

If Melton's passing proved anything it is that the citizen journalist known as the Kingfish has solid sources who trust him to do the right thing with the confidence they place in him. He reports on the news accurately, if not more accurately, than some local outlets in Jackson. He also reports on stories where others fear tread either politically or because they lack the analytical expertise. Jackson Jambalaya has become a must read and the metro area benefits from having another source of news and commentary. Thank you KF.

stilettoGOP said...

VERY well said 12:25. Every word. I wouldn't have been here for two years if it weren't true.

He knows when to hold back, and lucky for us, when to gun it.

Kingfish said...

Thanks. That it is why Tuesday night I said coded and included the word dead so no one would think I just meant heart stopped. I meant dead when he coded. In fact, when I first spoke to my source, my source's first words Tuesday night were oh, you heard Frank's dead, not oh, you heard he had a heart attack.

Jane said...

He was the mayor. We had a right to know more than "he's resting." Although, anyone with sense would have known that given Melton's condition, any new crisis would have probably meant the end of him.

Anonymous said...

So really.....you reported that he was dead, which in every sense of the word people believe is dead...died when in fact, he was NOT dead. he didn't die until hours later.

Kingfish said...

Cute.

I reported Tuesday night he was dead but they got him revived to the point they could put him on life support. He WAS dead when the EMT's got there. He was dead Wednsday morning but they made the decision to keep him on life support until the kids got there. No brain waves or anything. He was dead. They called government officials and the funeral home Wed. morning.

Trollfest '09

Trollfest '07 was such a success that Jackson Jambalaya will once again host Trollfest '09. Catch this great event which will leave NE Jackson & Fondren in flames. Othor Cain and his band, The Black Power Structure headline the night while Sonjay Poontang returns for an encore performance. Former Frank Melton bodyguard Marcus Wright makes his premier appearance at Trollfest singing "I'm a Sweet Transvestite" from "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
