More courtroom porn for the lawyers. Mike Brown trial. Here is Chancellor (Ret.) Stuart Robinson's testimony. He gets real tough on Mr. Brown several times. Mr. Brown's cross-examination begins at 5:00. Mr. Brown tries to fabricate a conversation in his office but the judge has none of it (6:00). Judge Robinson's disgust is evident throughout this portion of the testimony. Mr. Brown then moves to dismiss the case at 22:40. If you want to see the mind of a nut on display, here it is. Changes his story throughout his argument for dismissal (23:00).

Tate makes charter school appointments
The Lieutenant Governor issued the following press release on his charter school appointments:
Derrick Johnson slush fund!!!
The Secretary of State cracked down on a Derrick Johnson charity. It seems our head of the Mississippi NAACP is paid $120,000 a year to operate One Voice, a non-profit with the same address as the state NAACP. Although One Voice is considered to be a charity or non-profit, in reality it is a slush fund as most of the money is spent on consultants, travel, and salaries. Employees could sign checks made payable to themselves. Debit cards were issued to officers. $1.78 million a year makes for a nice little slush fund.
More courtroom porn
This is a post for the lawyers. Another video from the Mike Brown trial this week. Mike Brown first tries to stop the proceedings. He claims there is a bank statement from one month that is missing that is of coursethe foundation for his defense. A familiar stories. Conversations no one remembers. Documents that disappeared. Blah blah blah. Judge was having none of it. Then he attacks Paul Rogers on the stand in ways the court does not like. Mr. Rogers was the forensic accountant assigned to audit the McClinton guardianship. Its funny for the first ten minutes or so.

SC overturns Kidd on open carry law.
Guilty
A Rankin County jury convicted former attorney Mike Brown of two counts of embezzlement. Each charge carried a maximum sentence of twenty years. Circuit Judge John Emfinger sentenced Mr. Brown to twenty years on the first count and twenty years on the second county but suspended ten years. The sentences are to run consecutively. Mr. Brown was accused of embezzling $1.2 million from the guardianship of D'Mon McClinton. Mr. Brown faces more indictments in Hinds and Rankin Counties for other alleged crimes related to the embezzlement. The court also ordered full restitution of the $1.2 million although it is considered to be a formality. Mr. Brown has been in jail for over a year after Chancellor Dan Fairly found him in contempt of court after $37,000 under Mr. Brown's care disappeared from the Ray estate.
Brown trial: We got a tape and Brown keeps on talking
A Rankin County jury indicted suspended attorney Mike Brown on August 12 on four counts of embezzlement in the guardianship of D'Mond McClinton. D'Mond McClinton is the grandson of Mississippi civil rights hero Aaron Henry and inherited $3.5 million when his mother died in 2000. Mr. Brown and Thomas McClinton, the father of D'Mon, established a guardianship, as young McClinton was only sixteen years old when his mother passed away.
Here is some courtroom porn or Michael J. Brown shows why he is in trouble.
Here is some courtroom porn for the lawyers. Disbarred attorney Mike Brown is defending himself, yes defending himself, against embezzlement charges in Rankin County this week. A grand jury indicted him for embezzling from the guardianship of DeMon McClinton. Mr. McClinton is the grandson of Aaron Henry and inherited over $3.5 million when his mother died. I am working on the post right now but thought you deserved an entertaining preview of what is to come.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District issued the following press release:

A suspect in the CCJ home invasion last week turned himself in yesterday. WLBT reported:
Does Hinds need an Ag high school?
One little item that was discussed last week at the regular meeting of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors was the fate of the agricultural high school. Doesn't hold much interest for this site but since it was discussed, I thought some readers might want to watch the video. Dr. Clyde Muse addressed the board. The problem for the school is the attendance is only 200 students and the test scores aren't exactly great. Dr. Muse said the biggest challenge is attracting more students. Here is the video.

It speaks
Larita spoke to WAPT about the zoo this morning. She said the zoo is "in a wonderful location". Read for yourself. Just think, if we had taken that $25 million dumped on Farish Street and spent it instead on the zoo and the surrounding area, how much better off it would be. Oh well, we got some nice bricks and lights for it.

Good news for Jacksonians today. JPD arrested several individuals suspected of participating numerous burglaries and home invasions recently. WLBT reported on the arrest of several suspects who robbed a home on St. Andrews last week and shot several times at the homeowners:

Sun Herald: DMR needs to get money back before asking for more
The Sun Herald took DMR to task in a recent editorial after the agency asked for more money from the legislature:
Sad but true.
Most of you have heard of the Australian baseball player who was killed by three thugs in Oklahoma "for the fun of it". The father of a kid in that neighborhood provides some rather disturbing but predictable observations about the suspects and their world in this video:

Arrest made in CCJ robbery
One suspect was arrested yesterday in the robbery that took place Wednesday morning on St. Andrew's in the Country Club of Jackson. The suspect confessed to the crime. He went before judge this morning but unfortunately for him, no bond was granted. Some items were recovered and the Infinity SUV was found at a chop shop. One suspect is at large. Trying to confirm more information.

Obamacare & home visits
The latest Obamacare scare is home visits. Stories made the rounds over the gummint sending employees to your homes for home visits. JJ found the proposed rule and posted it below. The government created the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Competitive Grant program and provided it with $1 billion grant for five years. The federal government awards the grants to the states. The government gave $1,769,606 to the Mississippi Department of Health and Human Services in 2012 (List of awards) The states obtain the funding and then administer the home visits.
Don't let Stokes see this.
Check out what is going on in the Jackson Advocate's favorite country. Zero Hedge reports:

Senator Ted Cruz spoke at the Redstate gathering in New Orleans earlier this month. As you will see, he had a few things to say.
The Snake nation speaks.
No, I'm not writing about the Mississippi Bar. The Snake Nation issued a Fatwah against DMR cronies this morning:
Stokes-Cochran, the sequel
Kenneth Stokes was at it again yesterday at the regular meeting of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors. Republicans, Democrats, Valley State fans, it doesn't matter. they are all crooks, all on the take, and everyone but him is a liar. This time he accused Election Commissioner Connie Cochran and the two parties of trying to stuff ballot boxes. Funny stuff considering his wife benefited from election day tricks but this is Stokes we are discussing. The good stuff appears in the first five minutes.

Regular meeting of the Hinds County Supes
Forgot to post the complete video of the Hinds County Board of Supervisors' meeting held two weeks ago. Part 2 includes Malachi's audit of county finances and its recommendations. Here it is.
Histrionics or good commentary? You decide.
Ray Mosby penned an editorial in the Mississippi Business Journal about the Governor. Blues Brothers, Governor Bryant, bent sticks, and mission from God. Not to be confused with talent on loan from God. Rather interesting missive and worth reading. A few paragraphs are posted below but it is highly recommended you click on the link and read the rest of it.

The sequester worked
Stephen Moore writes in the Wall Street Journal the sequester actually worked. Good piece. Libs and cons will both find it interesting. Mr. Moore crunches some numbers and reports:
Latest crime stats
Here are the latest crime reports for Jackson, Rankin County, Madison, Byram, and the Rez. No, Jackson is not updating crime reports on the website. Jackson has not posted crime reports since the week of May 19. JJ filed a public records request for the report and is going to keep doing so every week until Jackson starts updating them on its website. If the Rankin and Jackson reports do not appear, it is probably because they are in flash. Enjoy.

Trollfest '09
Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).
Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.
Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".
In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.
In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.
Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.
Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!
This is definitely a Beaver production.
Note: Security provided by INS.
Trollfest '07
There will be a hugging booth where in exchange for your young son, Frank Melton will give you a loooong hug. Trollfest will have a dunking booth where Muhammed the terrorist will curse you to Allah as you try to hit a target that will drop him into a vat of pig grease. However, in the true spirit of Separate But Equal, Don Imus and someone from NE Jackson will also sit in the dunking booth for an equal amount of time. Tom Head will give a reading for two hours on why he can't figure out who the hell he is. Cliff Cargill will give lessons with his .80 caliber desert eagle, using Frank Melton photos as targets. Tackleberry will be on hand for an autograph session. KIM Waaaaaade will be passing out free titles and deeds to crackhouses formerly owned by The Wood Street Players.
If you get tired come relax at the Fox News Tent. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both will entitle you to free drinks.Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required, just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '07 is for EVERYONE!!!
