State Auditor Shad White issued the following statement.
Today, State Auditor Shad White announced the State Auditor’s Office will start diverting funds from several municipalities that are behind on their audits. The funds will be used to pay for outstanding or delinquent audits.
“While our office does not have the legal authority to actually audit cities using our staff, we do have authority to divert municipalities’ tax revenue to force them to be audited,” said White. “For taxpayers in those municipalities, they deserve to know how their money is spent. Someone must stand up for taxpayers.”
Municipalities with outstanding or delinquent audits are often not eligible for grants, cannot borrow money, and citizens are unable to know how their tax dollars are spent.
The State Auditor’s Office has already diverted taxes for Grenada, Canton, Holly Springs, Indianola, Maben, and Tchula. The new municipalities to have their taxes diverted are:
- Columbus
- Clarksdale
- Senatobia
- Louisville
- Winona
- Okolona
Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office at any time by clicking the red button at www.osa.ms.gov or calling 1-800-321-1275 during normal business hours.

What about Jackson?
Maybe with all of these announcements he should run for governor. Oh, wait...
Thank you, Shad. It's nice when elected officials do the job to which they were elected.
What about you, 3:52. How about we weaponize the state against you instead? I like that idea better.
Cannot stand Shad, but why would you have a problem with being forced to do an audit which was already supposed to have been done ?
For those criticizing Shad for being aggressive in order to propel him to higher office...it's the only logical thing to do when you are an elected official. Besides, if it motivates them to do their job better then I say go for it. Ray Mabus did it. Bill Allain did it. Mike Moore did it. Etc., etc. It's just the way it goes in politics.
Good for Shad on this one, but for the life of me, I want to know what the Leflore County Supervisors have on Shad that allows them to basically tell him to go fuck off.
Jackson hasn't done 2024 and 2025.
Why not them?
You need to check Adams County and Natchez!!!
Nothing wrong with Shad doing his job. But as a former auditor in this space I know the real problem is the cheap audits that are basically fake. Ask yourself how come a reputable firms charges $40,000 while a firm that starts with "F" out of Brandon goes all over the state doing them for $4,000? It is common to take 300 hours to properly audit a municipality. Are they charging $15 an hour? Think about it folks. Also, the major theft is done at legislative level anyway.... Now I will criticize Shad - it will take a non respector of persons to fix the top. Good luck folks I'm getting older it won't be long now before I experience the here after. Put it on my tombstone... I tried and tried to tell 'em.
If this is true then does the State Auditor have authority over these alleged fake auditing businesses?
