WLBT reported Governor Tate Reeves cancelled the special election for Hinds County District 2 Supervisor:
A special election for the Hinds County Board of Supervisors District 2 seat between David Archie and Tony Smith has been canceled.
This by the order of Governor Tate Reeves.
The special election was initially scheduled for Tuesday, July 14.
Smith will remain in office until the special election is held.
As someone once said, not so fast my friend. The Governor did not issue any such order. There is none posted on his social media accounts nor did he issue a press release.
A spokesman for the Governor said Governor Reeves did not order a special election be held. He has no plans to do so until the litigation between incumbent Supervisor Tony Smith and former Supervisor David L. Archie concludes or the Mississippi Supreme Court orders the Governor to schedule a special election.
Smith obliterated Archie in the 2023 election. Archie challenged the election in Hinds County Circuit Court. Special Circuit Judge Barry Ford ordered a new election be held. Smith appealed the decision to the Mississippi Supreme Court. Archie asked the Court to expedite the ruling.

Archie's folks trying to place blame on the Governor for their inability to understand the law, but why should we be surprised when Archie has that law scholar Gloria Walker and her minions leading his legal and political attack.
Governor never called for a special election because it never became ripe to do so - despite the idiots at the Hinds County Election Commission and the stupidity of the Judge.
But it did do a lot to increase the popcorn sales in the county - too bad the City of Jackson received very little of the sales tax revenue from those sales as most of it came from the Clinton-Raymond area of the county.
Does it really matter? Smith and Archie are both terrible candidates.

Two things can be true at the same time: 1) Archie is a buffoon that lost and lost badly and will likely lose again, and 2) The Hinds County Democratic Election Committee bungled the details of the election so incredibly badly that the outcome of such a lopsided election can feasibly be called into question.

Wake up people who vote in hinds county. Why aren’t u pissed that ur representative was considered elected using a corrupt election system? Why do the characters of both get so much attention and the issue at hand gets none? Here is why. U have been messed over and distracted with the silliness of ur leaders. Now u get to see what the big ole king decides and that is. Deny, delay and eventually it doesn’t matter so it continues to snowball. From an unbiased, legal view without the character noise, this case exposed so much darkness. The people of hinds county are constantly being screwed by their own people. The election was so corrupt, the decision to invalidate was all the judge could do because it was so apparent. The tactics used to continue to drag this out does not eliminate the problem. It was not a difficult case. It doesn’t take a rocket science to go through it. What really needs to happen is for the people to say no more. The governor is not going to save you. He is as bad as the hinds county DA office that has released career criminals and saturated your environment with this element. . The king in charge delays until it doesn’t matter any more. No action causes the same damage the wrong decision does. The problem still exists unattended. The simple truth outside the character noise is that this case could be the beginning of something new and unheard of here. You know where the leaders and election forces are held accountable and it forces transparency so that corruption cannot proliferate. When left unattended, corruption morphs and snowballs and you end up with the current results: capital of the state is a mess, prior leaders in prison or should be, crime out of control, state ranked low in all quality of living standards and medical care in this state is 5-10 years behind he national standards. I could go on and on but if YKYK. I see absolutely no difference between the political parties here. They all have the same color: murky, dark where greed is clothed in darkness.
So, what you are saying that the same corrupt system benefited Archie when he was elected in 2019. Thanks for clearing that up.
