Hinds County District Attorney Bradley McCullough issued the following statement.
Hinds County District Attorney Brad McCullouch announced that a Hinds County jury has found 52-year-old, Jonathan Brown guilty of multiple sex crimes involving three minor victims. On August 1, 2020, officers with the Jackson Police Department responded to a residence on Sweet Brier Drive regarding reported sexual abuse involving three children. During the investigation, family members reported that the abuse had occurred on multiple occasions throughout July 2020. Brown, a longtime family friend who had been staying at the residence of a relative, was identified as the person responsible. The victims disclosed that Brown abused them at night and threatened them to prevent them from telling anyone.
Brown was found guilty of four counts of sexual battery and three counts of gratification of lust.
Sentencing will be scheduled for a later day.
“Children deserve to feel safe and protected, especially around the adults entrusted with access to
their lives,” said District Attorney Brad McCullouch. “This defendant exploited the trust of a
family and used fear to silence vulnerable victims. Our office will continue to stand with children
who find the courage to speak out, and we will aggressively pursue those who abuse or prey upon
them.”
“I commend Assistant District Attorneys Tina Herron, Andreka Hollins, and Sue Perry for the
skill, care and determination they brought to this difficult case,” McCullouch said. ‘They handled
the evidence with professionalism, stood firmly on behalf of these young victims and worked
tirelessly to ensure the defendant was held accountable for the harm he caused.
