Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey issued the following statement.
An ongoing cooperative investigation combatting controlled substances in the Metro Area has resulted in the arrest of two suspects for drug trafficking. On Wednesday Evening November 12th, 2025, Officers with the Puckett Police Department encountered a Chevrolet Suburban on Highway 18 in Rankin County. During the traffic stop officers discovered approximately 120 pounds of high-grade marijuana. Puckett officers contacted investigators with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office to assist in the investigation. Rankin County Investigators along with members of the Rankin/City of Madison Interdiction Task Force began an intensive investigation into the origin of the marijuana. Investigators developed information that a large amount of high-grade marijuana was being stored in the Metro Area and was being distributed to several locations in Mississippi. Early Friday morning November 14th Investigators developed enough information to obtain a search warrant for a rented warehouse/office near the Jackson International Airport. A search of the facility revealed approximately 500 pounds of high-grade marijuana along with a large amount of U.S. Currency. It is believed that the origin of the marijuana is the State of California. Investigators believe that the marijuana is being shipped from California to the Metro Area in bulk amounts. Once the marijuana arrived at the rented facility it would be broken down into smaller amounts and distributed to dealers in Mississippi.

Two suspects have been taken into custody so far in this investigation. Karissa Renee MCDONALD and Jose De Jesus VASQUEZ ESTRADA. Both suspects were booked on the charge of “Trafficking of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.” The District Attorney’s Office will bring both defendants before Rankin County Court Judge David Morrow for an Initial Appearance.

This investigation continues and more arrests are expected. Several agencies participated in the investigation including the Puckett Police Department, Madison Police Department, Brandon Police Department, Rankin County Sheriff's Department and members of the DEA/HIDTA Drug Task Force.
The estimated street value of the high-end marijuana is well over one million dollars.
