Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is holding his weekly briefing. The presser is live-streamed below.
* The press conference started 30 minutes late.
* The Mayor commended the Parks & Recreation Department for the July 4 festivities held at Smith-Wills Stadium last week. A good time was had by all.
* The Junior Olympics trials for track and field took place in Jackson last weekend. Most of the events took place at Hughes Field.
* The Ice Cream Safari at the Jackson Zoo will be held July 13.
* Cutting division of Solid Waste division is working hard on overgrown grass around the city. Contracts will be awarded to landscape and improve the aesthetic appeal of the city.

* "I am proud to live in a majority-black city and refuse to apologize for it," said the Mayor. He said given the state's history, we should be proud black people have a space in which to thrive.
* Hizzoner lauded his JPD Chief when the issue of contracts arose: "The Chief's job is safe. He is doing a great job."

Suddenly concerned about the aesthetics of the City, in an election year mind you, when he couldn't bother shoveling leaves from the curbs right by his house? Or, is it Locke Ward making him look bad?
He OBVIOUSLY doesn't really care what Jackson looks like.
The feds poured all of those millions into North State street sidewalks and roadways and the City can't even routinely weed-eat it so it still looks nice. This is exactly why the water system never needs to be in the control of the City of Jackson again. They have no desire to do the simple work of maintaining basic assets/infrastructure.
Is it thriving in when -
- 300 lights at intersections are out
- the water system is in Federal receivership
- the roads are falling apart
- JPD does not answer 911
- the libraries were all allowed to leak and the books rotted
- graft and corruption and FBI investigation
- the zoo is falling apart and god know what’s happening to the animals
- you can’t stop for gas for fear of being shot
- you barely have any retail left and Waffle Houses are closing
- can’t produce any reliable financial statements
I live near Smith-Wills and had to laugh last Wednesday night, July 3. There was a fireworks show which I could see clearly through the trees. I don't ever remember such a display. I figured the Mayor said, "Damn, with all that parking revenue from the VA we better put together a good show quick!"
Point is, If the COJ had been collecting 70%+ from water & sewer bills; the COJ would have enough $$ during Chokwe’s managing b4 Tx was appointed. The Mayor could not say enough nice things about Ted, until the Feds through Honorable Henry Wingate directed all $$ go to Ted first to ensure the contractors are being paid. After Judge Wingate took away power from Chokwe, then Ted became public enemy #1. Everyone else Loves Ted & Henry Wingate!
Someone needs to tell him that black voters don’t like dishonest crooks anymore than white voters, so the race card isn’t going to work next election.
@3:03 I believe those were being shot from the Imperial Suites.
Mayoral bloviating, v99.0
The only thing more satisfying than an orgasm is reading Kingfish's weekly comment, "The presser is live-streamed below".
Reading that makes me happier than unfiltered-camel after-sex happy.

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??? It's the private citizens and contractors doing this work!!!! If there are any contracts awarded, it should be awarded with back pay to these fine people!

@ 3:15 You need to smoke some better weed!!!! You personify (look it up in a dictionary) what is wrong with the city of Jackson. P.S. preorder your rental trucks for your moves to Rankin and Madison counties.
"He said the city had a higher collection rate (72% v. 55%) than JXN Water."
How would the marxist mayor know what percentage of households were paying for water services? From past reports, they had no idea who was paying what.
Even if the %72 was correct, it is possible for the %55 collection, by Jackson water, now, to equal more money than the mayor's %72, then. That would be true because of more households paying in.
The marxist mayor is trying to throw shade, but the light of reality causes shade to fade away.
We need the next audited financials.
How much cash is left?
So, who can beat him next year?
Why not hire a respectable CPA, on commission, to identify and help the state auditor recover the millions stolen from this rapidly declining city. I know those stealing the money cannot pay it back, but they can have their luxury cars and luxury Jackson houses repossessed. It is really hard to believe that there are still respectable and responsible people putting up with this stuff! I know I moved some time ago. That extra 15 minute drive into Jackson and back is a small price to pay for safe, appreciating property.
Is it possible that we need to audit the audit dept in the city of Jackson.? Please print the various accounting firms or individuals who audit this city, and the various departments run by it.
Who is the CPA firm responsible for the Jackson city audits? I know in my past life as an officer of one of the major Jackson banks, I dealt with “respectable” cpa firms quite often. Does that still happen?
“ I am proud to live in a majority-black city and refuse to apologize for it," said the Mayor. He said given the state's history, we should be proud black people have a space in which to thrive. ”
Replace black with white and what would Mississippi Today and Clarion Ledger reactions be?
I live in Madison (city). Our water collection rate is 100%. You go three months no pay, you have no water until you pay up and pay a fee to reopen your water line. I say this for 2 reasons. 1. We are proud people who take responsibilities very seriously, and 2. If you don’t pay your utility bills, “we don’t want you”.

@6:20 pm
That is the answer we all need!
Someone to beat him in 2025!
Cannot stand to listen to this loser's lies, and cannot wait to vote against him AGAIN. He makes my skin crawl.
5:29 - you are on target. Baby Chock is playing with the numbers. There
"may" have been a 72% collection rate (I don't believe it, but giving the benefit of the doubt for now) but that was of the bills BEING SENT OUT. During his office's control of the system, over 1/3 of the accounts were not being billed. Ergo, if 72% of 66% of the accounts were actually paying, his collection rate was lower than today. Furthermore, during 2018 and 2019, there were over 30% of the bills that were sent that were not being paid. So his 72% number might be a selective picking of one month when their collections were highest all the while ignoring that they were not billing 20,000 customers.
8:11 - hold your fire. There is competent and electable candidate on the way.
Bold New City
Jackson has some shameful chapters but he will always be remembered as its worst mayor.
Shock-way wasn't 30 minutes late; others were 30 minutes early.
While the Mayor is lying about the collection rates when the water system was under his control, JXN Water should already have a much higher collection rate than it does. Ted is dragging his feet on beginning mass shut offs for people who have not paid and who have no plan to begin paying.
I hope the 28% or 45%- depending on who you believe-of delinquent water grifters don't vote. If they do, we're in trouble. Chockwe will be reelected.
Remember Biden said HE created NATO, which would have been when he was 7 years old if true. So Chokwe lies, Biden lies but no news outlet will report!!! They only report Trump lies right! Thanks for reporting KF
Dang Mr. Mayor, your racist comments made me feel some kinda way….a sad kinda way.
" improve the aesthetic appeal of the city"
LMAO. You mean the "Cut Above Program" in which "We'll be talking about ways that residents could use their personal equipment to helping certain areas those who have asked about supporting," Lumumba said. Source: WAPT article:

In other words...get out there and do it yourself, bitches. But make sure you follow OUR rules.
